Although I don’t love or even like a lot of their releases I still buy a lot from them because the craftsmanship they put into the restoration & presentation is absolutely beautiful. They really are the best at restorations.
Thank you so much for this quality presentation. Vinegar Syndrome is my absolute favorite for vintage 70s releases.
Thanks for showcasing this great boutique label!
This would have been entertaining if you'd gone in to more detail and dropped all of the not-so-funny chit chat.
I'm waiting for Vinegar Syndrome to release Taboo 1,2,3, and 4 to Blu-ray and 4K. And I'm still waiting for them to answer my email I sent them.
Any news?
Oh, I want Liquid Sky. I saw it twice in an art cinema in Fort Lauderdale in 1984. How about "Can I do it till I need glasses?" original cut (pre- Robin Williams.)
Jim is a super cool guy. Met him a few times at conventions and he sure knows his stuff.
But HOW is a film RESTORED? Did I miss something or did they just explain the STEPS of film restoration?
Restore is cleaning the original,, scanning in 4k then taking out all the marks, restoring the sound and then release it. The original film is copied to another reel because they last up to 500 years. Digital doesn't last that long. Ever time another format comes a long they have to convert again as anything new is not comparable with the new format. I have been watching many videos on the subject.
@@Pauldjreadman YOU should've been in the video 😅 thanks, paul 🍻
@@tomassoejakto I have been watching other restoration videos. There is more information in them.
Exactly! I think they missef something!
They also have Photo Works in Pleasantville, New York. They charge about 10 dollars per video conversion to DVD.
Great video :)
I don't know when the habit of storing films became stacking them on their sides, but traditional film storage has always been to place them on end upright.
The fact that people are still buying DVDs over BluRays saddens me...
they don't care
@@lisciatoredimele8919
And cineastes around the world cries a tear of sadness each time.
Im a Doctor Who fan i gotta buy the classics and some blu ray, but i buy things on Blu ray
Some people can't buy bluray. Some people didn't care. Well at least some people "buy" a physical copy.
Quantity over quality
How about other movies not on DVD and Blu-ray such as 1994 The Raffle and 1991 Rich Girl?
I'd like to see vinegar syndrome do a restored version of Shaun Costellos 1977 classic roughie "water power". With the extended director's version.
Does he have the film reel for Fritz the Cat?
I worked with Gorman Bechard's Father, Gorman "Gary" E. Bechard for a few years.
Question would be how do we little people that have old 1980’s movies remaster to a higher quality version of 1080P of today?
That would be a dumb question, and your answer even dumber - Any DVD that has higher quality that Blu-ray, must have had the Blu-ray mastered by an idiot. I don't just mean the resolution, but the storage mediums are orders of magnitude smaller/bigger. So anything made on Blu-ray, to proper standards, will always be a better copy of the original - larger colour palette, higher bit rate keeping more of the contrast, its no contest! Blu-ray is king (4k can be much better, but the increase in quality isn't as noticeable immediately unless its a HDR remaster, but its there too even without HDR)!
Where can I find this amazing movies restorations

Nice one
LMAO
Do you have to pay royalties to the makers? Or is it like Mozart’s music?
need more
What software do you guys use?

What is a DVD?
you're joking?
I think it's like netflix but on a cd
It’s like Disney plus on a cd

It's what film collectors USED to buy their movies on before the superior Blu-ray format came along, about 8 years before this video was made!
I feel like watching this should've been more interesting but this guy David somehow takes the joy right off screen. His sentences are just piling words on top , waiting for the other guy to finish his sentence. Dude's got massive ego - look at the worker whoose speaking, not into the camera so you can stare at yourself later.
Wouldn't they have to Re-Restore some of these films again so they can port em to 8k or higher later on?
I doing this type job Last 10 year
What's that movie with the tagline: "She was beauty, lust, and obsession!"?
but skip most of the process
Never heard of any of these titles ?? are these B movies ?? Any john wayne movies ??
looks like only adult film needs restoration here......
You guys can really turn old movies into new better qualitys. Can you guys restore The Simpsons Shorts made by Tracey Ullman from 1987?
thats very specific
The shorts were most likely made either on digital video or 8mm. Digital video would probably be more or else 480p, and 8mm has a maximum horizontal resolution of 900 pixels and maximum vertical resolution of 1200pixels. This is close to a 720p resolution which isn't a very significant increase, but with their restoration it would look very nice.
@@singingsheepytps9240 I know that old movies and cartoons are 480p. And it's my be hard to stretch that quality.
@@singingsheepytps9240 8mm film has no maximum resolution
@@mygmailaccount7067 Fair enough, I guess it depends on the film stock
That guy looks like Christian Slater!
True romance
Matt D is creepy
VS stuff is waste of money.
This channel is dead
I bought movies from Vinegar Syndrome. It was nicely packaged but to be honest it was overprice garbage.
VS charages way too much for their releases.
But they're the second best label along with Synapse Films, when it comes to exploitation films.
no retreat no surrender 2 please
