If you're wondering how the Mike Tevee(the talkative kid who likes guns) became a mute remember in the original Willy Wonka movie he's the one that ate the exploding gum... Safe to say it probably damaged his tongue or throat...

If you think about it, the 2005 version of Chocolate factory has more relation to the snowpeircer. Remember the time where Wonka found the Oompa Loompas, they were addicted to Cocoa (Chocolate). But they have less resources for a stable supply, so they also loved eating from mashed worms and insects (as a source of protein). And there are a couple of train references in that movie too and a scene that is took exactly from Wonka and his dad on a dental session

The last shot of the 2005 movie is literally them being buried under artificial snow (or rather, powdered sugar made to look like snow) - foreshadowing the eventual global freeze caused by mankind.

What convinces me is that those food blocks look suspiciously like chocolate bars. And they are made using a mixer that resembles what Wonka uses to mix chocolate. And the real workers who keep things humming on the train are children, who are smaller than the other characters the same way the Ooomp Loompas are the workers in Wonka's factory and they also do the hard work. And the train goes in a tunnel in Snowpiercer which echoes the boat ride in the Wonka movie. And there's a big crash at the end of the Wonka movie as they fly out and in Snowpiercer there's a big crash at the end.

    Regarding Mike TV/Franco the Elder:
People can change significantly between childhood and adulthood, especially if there was deep trauma in the world that took family and friends from him, plus things he may have seen and done to survive. Or, if something happened to him when he was younger. Have you forgotten? How about this...?
What if he was changed when he went through Wonka's experimental TV transfer as happened to Mike TV in the Chocolate Factory? Remember now? He was broken down into particles, sent through the air, and supposedly reconstituted as a tiny version of himself. Getting him back to normal (size) could've changed him not only in mind, but in body and soul.
Something along the lines of The Fly meets Star Trek, this experimental technology may have demanded that something was added to make him "whole." It could very well be that the Mike TV that was taken apart and put back together isn't the Mike TV that entered the factory. He's... different and yet, he clings to the extreme parts of who and what he used to be.
How does he become nearly unstoppable? If his body was fractured, is it a stretch that his Mind and even his Soul underwent a drastic change? Think about it. He may have even died and come back, like Gage in Pet Cemetery, or Sam Winchester from Supernatural. Ever watch, listen to Think Like A Dinosaur? And if that's the case, he may not have all or any of his soul (or mind), and therefore personality. Mostly mute. Physically "heightened." Touched by Evil, which is directed at others and signaled by an apathy towards their lives and pain. Sound familiar?
What do you think? Is it more possible if these things are considered?

There's a CZcamsr who does trailers for movies, but edits them and changes the genre (comedy to horror, from horror to rom-com, drama to comedy, etc...) So, if someone was challenged to make Willy Wonka into a dystopian sci-fi, you know it sure would look a lot like Snowpiercer. So I guess if you're stuck, wondering what kind of a movie, or book, to make, just do that edit from one genre to another in your head, and viola!

I don't like the series at all, but years ago when Snowpiercer finally streamed on Netflix (around 2015) I thought it was a great film.
No joke, but the first time I watched this with my friend he had mentioned that he was getting weird Wonka vibes. Queue 3 years later and Rhino Stew comes out with a Wonka/Snowpiercer theory. Kind of eerie when you think about.
So here's a question for all of us and especially for you James.
Do you think Bong Joon Ho did this on purpose?
Despite the lack of any actual name drop, dialogue directly referencing the Wonka films, or any kind of visual or flashback to the Wonka movies, I still think the similarities of both films were done on purpose because, deep inside, Bong Joon Ho probably did want to make this film as an intended successor.

@Jacaré Vacinado Alice In Wonderland is on that's been re-written a lot. Frankenstein also. It's tough to point out a specific film. Just over the years sometimes you'll hear a writer state something in an interview to the effect of "Well I was reading so and so short story, or, I saw so and so movie and it gave me the idea to do so and so". There are thousands of examples of this in music also.

Not buying it. Why would they all change their names for no reason? Wilford only starts using kids after the original parts failed. Maybe there’s no female oompaloopmas in the original movie, but if there’s absolutely NO female oompaloomas, how is there any more than one? They MUST be able go reproduce in some way or another. How is agustus gloops’s daughter only a few years younger than veruca salt? Slugworth’s conpany exists! It’s a direct competitor to wonka. The man charlie meets is an actor, but that just means he wasn’t the real slugworrth. And since he’s an actor, can we really believe what he say’s about it being a closed system? It’s also possible that gilliam was truly aligned with the rebellion and only appeared to be aligned with wilford so that they wouldn’t be outright annihilated. As you said, how did mike teevee become mute? He won’t shut up as a child! It’s a fun idea to be sure, but it doesn’t add up to me. Besides, there are actual book sequels to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, and they do not involve any of the events of snowpiercer. Charlie may be a good student, but is he really smarter than the world’s top chemists who all thought the climate cooling chemical was fine? This is all just a response to the original video, i quite enjoy both original movies as well as this channel, i’m just not buying it. The original point of willy wonka is “just be cool, otherwise things might go bad for you,’ which is not the point of snowpiercer at all. Both good movies, this and the original video are great, but this theory does not make sense to me.

    • @millsrome
      @millsrome Před 3 lety +7

Ok so clearly I had a little bit of time today
      1) Who wouldn't change their name in the end of the world? Specially if they're that stupid also the director obviously can't take the probably copyrighted names.
      2) There are female and children Oompa Loompas in the factory according to the book, you mainly see the males because they're the ones that work. If Wilford even took enough females into the train maybe working the engine was dangerous enough to kill most of them. Those working conditions are really different to the factory, it's not a jolly place and probably not a huge reproduction mood going on in there lmao
      3) I can't find that actress age but she made a movie playing a teenager 2 years before Snowpiercer and Tilda Swinton was 53 years old in 2013 so even if that acress is 30 wich is the maximum age I can give her it could still be an adequate age difference and not just a few years of diference.
4 & 5) Idk man, believe them or not all it's posible lmao I can't really disprove anything just like you can't prove it.
      6) He wouldn't shut up and he's annoying as hell so Charlie/Wilford muted him easy peasy
      7) He doesn't need to be a top chemist to be someone who distrust that crazy solution I mean those chemists annihilated the world, not so smart aren't they? Besides have you seen the state of the world lately? is Wilford's distrust in a goverment that big of a reach?
And no I don't believe it's an official sequel but I believe that it's heavily inspired, too many coincidences to not be intentional
