    I love Bx ,unfortunately my came true dream became a nightmare due to lhm leaks .Every week my car was flatten on the ground due to leaks . I take to mechanic he fix it and next week same problem and again drop to the ground by leaks on the rubber return pipes. lack of parts and lack of mechanics in my country with the knowledge for this kind of suspention made the whole year I had my bx a nightmare. I still miss it anyway. I still consider them one of the best cars in history exept for that problem.

      These return pipes are basically not that big of a problem and you can replace them all easily.You should habve a car lift though.No need to put them where Citroen originally put them and you couldn´t reach em .The hard lines are available even in stainless steel today. I have my sixth BX now and just luv em.Easy and cheap to maintain, but some parts are harder to get nowadays.An underrated Citroen for sure.

      that is a major disadvantage of hydropneumatic suspensions, that is why they don't much being used by big world automakers.

      B 51 HTM That is not true.The ABC Suspension of a modern Mercedes Benz is a hydropneumatic System , with electronic control combined with a modern sensor suite/ cameras etc.
      Citroen could not compete with this and had at the same time a system at their hands that was electronically outdated and labour intensive to troubleshoot.
      The technological disadvantage from the software side was too big to be overcome and was a big factor why they stopped making it. At the same time, they could not keep the suspension as soft as it used to be, because the engines became more and more powerful, which leads to big load changes during acceleration and braking.
      It’s perfect if you drive a DS with 100 gasoline hp, but you‘d get seasick if it had 200 diesel hp.
      That’s when it stopped to make sense and Citroen wouldn’t and couldn’t make the effort MB, BMW/RollsRoyce/Bentley were all willing to make to invest in technology that could cope with these factors.
      The basic hydropneumatic suspension in a lightweight car with moderate power, is utterly awesome compared with another car without it and the issues today are caused by age and mileage only.
      They can be dealt with and are only difficult to tackle if nobody dealt with it for years or decades.

      @@stevehislop excuse me but Citroen did it till not ling ago wih tje C6 Model. And Rolls Royce, Mercedes and Range Rover can use hidropneumatic suspention just because they bought the license from Citroen.

      @@atiliogarcia5019 Again: The C6 HP system has almost nothing in common any more with the original simple HP-system of a DS,CX,GS,BX-Era ...other than the fluid and the way the sphere´s are made. It is all electronically controlled and RR, MB and Range Rovers had the simple HP-system licensed in the 70´s.
      Comfort was the strength of that system, which is no longer enough. Today even a Rolls is able to do a fast lap and that abillity is bought with an enormous effort that Citroen was unwilling to cope with.

    Do bx's raise a lot quicker than the Xantia?

    • @stevehislop
      @stevehislop Před 4 lety +1

      ash7990 Depends on how tight the hydropneumatic system is, but in general: Yes, it lifts faster than a Xantia. But a Xantia of the second series has a anti-sink function anyways.
