    Another tip when buying is after I buy, ask the seller if anything else goes with the bike. I have had them say sure and given me bike stands, a case of oil, boots, gas can, pre mix bottles, extra parts they forgot they had, etc. Because sometimes they are getting out riding and will say let's look around my garage and are happy to rid of things associated with it.

      Dirt N Iron the guy had both of them. The 250 was his older bike before he got the 450 but he was moving to cali and couldnt take them due to shipping costs, etc. yeah me and my dad both now have bikes. He even went down on the price which was (4000) since he admitted they both needed tires, brakes. It was one hell of a deal.

    1st rule of bying a dirtbike: Don't text, call the seller.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  Před 7 lety +15

      yes, makes sense. Unless they are at work and they cant pick up the phone. Text is always easier to answer. Before I met him I talked to him on the phone as well. Some ads even say that text is best way to contact, but some say no text.. this particular ad said call/text and responded within 5 min. But I agree with the comment, if you can call its always better to call.

    • @TeKaMOTO
      @TeKaMOTO Před 7 lety +14

      Agreed. Personally I would never even go look at a bike if I can't have a chat on the phone first with the seller.

    Hey man... I watched this video the night before I went to buy my first 2 stroke.. funny, i was also looking at a ktm 250sx. I pulled on the wheel side to side, lots of play... I pulled up and down, lots of play in the swing arm bushing. I didn't know anything about this stuff, luckily I watched your vid, there was also much more wrong with this bike. I ended up not buying it. So thanks a lot for making this video, you saved me from buying a junker.
    The only thing I would say you could add to this video is checking a vin number. Took a bit of research but I was able to learn how to check year and model for ktm vin's. Saw one vid of a guy who bought a yz250(so he thought).. turned out to be a yz125. Got scammed.
    Anyway, thanks again for making this video. Helps a lot for noobs like myself.

    You never negotiate on the phone. You negotiate when you actually look at the bike. People that negotiate on the phone are not serious buyers. I dont even bother with people when they give me a random ass price on the phone. Great you were able to get the bike.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  Před 7 lety +8

      I guess you can say that, but in my case I always try to talk about the price before we meet in person, I respectfully suggest some price without insulting them. So far i had good luck, all the bikes I bought I got discounted over the phone first. I think it all depends on your attitude and style.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  Před 7 lety

      +Justin Sanders I am just playing with the adjustment for now, but I am thinking to get it tuned by some company, it's not the best setting for trail riding, I need something more plush, this has MX suspension. I love the bike, but suspension needs some attention.

      @justinsanders195 Před 7 lety

      Dirt N Iron my cousin rides an old yz125 and his rear shock is definitely not good for trails. more for jumps. those mx bikes are cheap to buy used its probably worth the work to adjust the power delivery and the shocks.

    What does hours on the bike means ?

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  Před 7 lety

      it means how many hours did your engine run, dirt bikes dont have odometer so you dont know how many miles is on the bike, best way to tell the conditions of an engine is to know how many hours it has on.

      @killerkork Před 7 lety

      Nice congrats ! Yeah, I had a 03 KTM 125 loved the hydraulic clutch and brakes also. The 125 was a blast, felt super light and maneuverable but just needed the torque of a 250 so I ended picking up a really clean 2004 KX250 for $2000, got it on craigslist also. Talked the guy down $400

    i wish i could get a 150cc 2010 4 stroke kx150f, but my budget is about 400 dollars bc i live in rural kentucky, never had a dirtbike but ive had a 4 wheeler and a gator. my dad has a low paying welding job at a coal machinery building factory and the coal business is falling and coal jobs are going away and this is my dads third time leaving and getting another job this year. by the way my 4 wheeler was my grandpas 4 wheeler and it was a 2007 kawasaki (not sure the type of kawasaki). a guy gave it too us for free because he felt bad bc of our economic state. my dad has used up 2/3 of his 41ok and our house bill is so behind that they are thinking about taking my house. only thing i ever do is get on my cheap old used computer that is slow as crap and watch others ride bikes on youtube. i also have a rented cheap 2010 phone to text my mom when at school, i cant even afford a video game thing so my life right now is watching people ride bikes. all of my friends at school feel bad and give me their lunch because mhy parents cant afford to pay for the lunch. she used to pack it at home until the costs got too big on us. i have one friend that quit being my friend because he said i was poor and had nothing to favor in me. he was a rich kid though. if someone could sell me a kx150f 4 stroke manual kickstart for 400 or less i would be the happiest guy alive. because all of my friends have dirtbikes and they have a place where they race every weekend, i ask them if i could use my grandpas 4 wheeler to race with em and they decline everything with "no, that ruins the motorcross part of the race because motorcross is for bikes"..... so i just watch them speed around the track...and one more bad thing to add, my girlfriend broke up with me 5 months ago bc i couldnt buy her flowers for the dance, and i aint had another girlfriend since... i hope you guys have a better day than me, bye
