  • We move our family of 4 (+dog and cat) from a a gorgeous modern home in a thriving community to a the beautiful but very rural West Cork. Instead of a modern family home, like we are familiar with, we have bought a derelict farmhouse along with some outbuildings and a small piece of land.

Hi from Arizona, USA! I stumbled across your channel because I love construction and restoration, and the Corner House Project channel recommended you! I’ve been to Ireland 3 times and have friends there, and it’s so lovely. I’m excited to see your journey and the beautiful Irish countryside because I miss the beauty of it. 💚 I binge watch channels from beginning to current, so I’ll try not to ask too many questions until I catch up. 😅

West Cork is so gorgeous. We used to visit regularly when we lived in east Cork. We lived in Spain for over seven years then came home and rented for another seven. Finally we were able to buy a tiny cottage in county Cavan as it's not too much of a drive from our kids and grandkids. We've spent the past six years renovating it ourselves so I can relate to what you're doing. Hard work but very rewarding. We did the same thing back in the 80s when our kids were small so this time it's just us and we can take our time. I follow a lot of the channels you mentioned and it will be lovely to see your journey with your own home. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, I came over after seeing your post on the cottageology group on Facebook. Great video! Me and my husband have just sat and watched your video and found ourselves saying to each other “they sound exactly like us!” We are just embarking on the same journey as you and also watch all the same CZcams channels you listed too 😂 we will be following your channel with interest as we count ourselves in the “pretty good at diy, but have no experience is this kinda camp too!” We have 1 more week left in the uk before we move over to start on our farmhouse in County Leitrim. Good luck with all that you do!

Aww thanks for stopping by! Love the north!! Yeah, there is something lovely about visiting abroad or even staying for a few years, but when you dial into the real Ireland there is nothing like it 🥰🥰 🍀🇮🇪

New subscriber here. Very interested in your story. We left the UK for Ireland in 2014 but left for France in 2021. I'm suffering from some home sickness for Ireland. Although I wasn't born in Ireland I did grow up there and did all
my schooling there so I do feel
    Irish in my soul.

I’ve only watched a couple of your videos - seeing you kango off that chimney breast, I must tell you that you are A MIGHTY WOMAN.
I understand completely the WHY of your move, and applaud the courage to change everything in your life in one fell swoop.
Husband and I bought a derelict schoolhouse online without ever seeing it, sold everything we owned in 2015, and moved from NYC into a construction/renovation site in a wet field in Leitrim. I was 60, he was 64. I guess it’s fair to say that I have been where you are standing....
You are in the middle of a great adventure. You will wonder what the hell you were thinking, and question every decision you ever made - but it is a wonderful thing to step willingly off the edge of sanity, and KNOW the angels will catch you before you hit the ground.
Be prepared to become complete different people. We are unrecognizable from the pair of New Yorkers who stepped off the plane at Dublin airport a few years ago. But would NOT change a thing...
This shit takes PRACTICE, so don’t despair. You got this.
(Careful with doggo - we have dogs and even though we are in the middle of gawd’s green nowhere, they are never off a leash. Any dog worth his chow will chase a running sheep - and farmers are encouraged to actually SHOOT your dog. It’s legal, and fairly common. Be careful!)

Awww lovely to hear your kind words! Amazing to hear your story, you were original trailblazers, would love to see how you got on with your project! Sounds delightful, my parents came from UK to West Cork in the 80s and renovated a school also. Rob's parents renovated a cottage and victorian house so it's in the blood allright. We fenced off our land almost immediately to keep our dog in but also any other dogs out! Thanks for your comment, appreciate you
