    I appreciate your insights on the Ocho Rios International Airport (OCJ) in Boscobel, St. Mary. While you mentioned that the airport was a major disaster, it’s important to highlight some recent developments. The Government of Jamaica did expand the runway to accommodate larger aircraft, including those from American Airlines. Currently, there are three flights weekly from Miami (MIA) to OCJ, with plans to expand to four flights weekly in November due to increasing demand.
    Boscobel (OCJ) is the third largest airport in Jamaica, located in Ocho Rios. It serves two destinations with scheduled passenger traffic from two airlines. The most frequently departed route is to Miami (MIA) in the USA, accounting for over 76% of all weekly departures.

      The runway can land small planes not the big jets. That's the problem with the airport

    Thanks for the info. Building an Bigger airport in Negril would be a great idea. Also extending the runway at Ian Fleming Airport would also be a great idea. With all the new Resorts being built around the island, there is no way Sangsters can handle the amount or persons entering the island. I thought with Ian Fleming opening up for international flights it would take some of the persons traveling to Ochi from Sangsters making it easier the get through customs.

    If this moves forward the Negril Aerodrome might be relocated . In it's current location it would be highly disruptive to the ambience and atmosphere of Negril, which is one of it's attractions to visitors. More useful would be the bypass highway from Montego bay to Negril.

      @@drivinginjamaica With the upcoming bypass of the small towns, it would be even less of an issue with the drive. Current problem is driving through Falmouth, Lucea etc., which slows the commute. An hour drive on good road and bypassing the small towns would not be a problem for most tourists.

  • @GaryTallawahWoode

    There is no denying that the space is there to extend the Negril airport runway if you think giving up precious wetlands and even potentially harming the very beach it will serve is okay. A better move would be to figure out how to extend Ian Fleming International to a large jet standard and use it to take the pressure off Sangster's International considering its prime location to service the North Eastern parishes. Then also build out the infrastructure of SIA and do the town bypasses to make travel to Negril faster and more efficient. It is possible with a better and cheaper to build road infrastructure improvement aka the Montego Bay to Negril new expressway proposal or even the Hopewell, Lucea, and Green Island bypasses to cut the travel down to less than one hour of travel time, which is quite reasonable for any resort access worldwide.
    You constantly advocate for not sidelining the little man in Jamaica, and a Negril airport shuttling passengers to AIs would likely do more damage than help, except possibly JUTA drivers.

    • @drivinginjamaica
      @drivinginjamaica  Před měsícem

      @@drivinginjamaica so you realize you are contradicting yourself because you are advocating for an airport expansion that may create as much harm as the situation it helps?
