Many days I would have loved to have had just about any of those boats! Glad that I now have a tin boat. My first and only glass boat was a 1978 TomBoy. 14 feet of crap with a 35 Johnson! I think I paid like 2800 bucks, boat, motor, trailer. And I was happy cause I could go fishing! Love your videos Andy. You keep it real.

Haha, love your videos. I actually have a 1989 Tidecraft with an old Merc 175 Blackmax lol. For as old as it is, it’s still going strong. You can tell it’s a 1989 but it does what I need it to.

Love the list. Owned a 1988 bass trophy with the force 125 new. Loved that boat even though it was junk. Sold it in 2002. That boat is still running the lower Colorado river today. Still smoking and overheating, but never left me stranded. My optimax has let me down more than I can count. Crazy.

Bahaha. Love it. My very first boat I owned was a Bayliner Capri cobra with a force 125. Learned to work on out boards from that motor, also learned about rot. I have some good pics of it if you want them. Had it torn all the way down the the stringer seats about to glass in New ones when I found the transom rotted out and hauled it off to the dump. Good learning experience is all I can say about it.

To be fair Bayliners had Forces because they owned Force.... My family had one since new. My dad was meticulous with maintenance and never had much of an issue with it it was 30% less than most other comparable rigs. Of course it was a 1980s glass boat so fit and finish wasnt much even taken care of, and you are right about the ride...

Got 31 years out of my 1988 17 foot Bayliner Bass Boat with 85 HP Force. Just repowered it last summer when the Force gave out. It went to the shop only 2 times in all those years. Put a fair amount of bass into the boat as well. All the original accessories are present including seats with no rips and motorguide. Did the radio, the cb, the bilge pump once and that was it. Fresh new Mercury on it with a couple of extra horses and it was good as new. Keeping the water out of them in the off-season, was all anyone needed to do to keep them from falling apart.

Hey this has nothing to do with this video but I just watched an older video where you talked about evinrude ending production, you mention you were excited for electric outboards and I though that was a very good opinion. There’s not much out there but they would be a huge upgrade in every way and be cleaner for the water. Evinrude could come out with an electric motor and just rock the market and it would be very cool. They could easily make one but how much distance could we get and how much do the batteries weigh. By the time I get a boat in about 7 years because I’m 23 I hope to have an electric option.
    Anyways great video!

Great Video ! Couldn't agree more but please keep in mind yes the Bayliner Bass Trophy was JUNK but the Trophy line is very vast leading into the larger Pilothouse models and yachts . I have a 1982 Bayliner 2270 Explorer built for Alaska and I love it . Orwin Edson was a smart man . Dumped the company off to Bruinswick in 1986 , he saw the jet skis coming to destroy his cheap hydroplane market , along with Bass Pro with their boats . So he stuck with the yacht market and gave away millions to charity . Check out the 1980's Before Bruinswick Bayliner Explorerers & Trophies that were built for Alaska . They're a whole different class of boats . Bayliner was the worlds largest recreational boat manufacteur . Today it's Bass Pro . Didn't they just buy Hatteras ? Great Company .

If you look at the hardware on the boat some of the best in the industry especially for that time, and they were known for being a good ride for a smaller boat. This brings back memories, I had a 1983 Tidecraft Wildfire with a Merc black max 150,had that boat for 9 years before I sunk it .Rough water cracked the hull and down it went,ha ha ,that was a bad day in flat rock! Also had a transom so bad that if you looked back at the motor while running the motor was flopping so bad it looked as though it was waving at you. At that time it was all state of the art , lots of good tournament catches for an investment of 11,000 total ,not the worst money ever spent. But in retrospect you are probably right in your assesment !!

What isyour opinion of a Randall Craft boat?

  • @zacharymalinakmontanaangle9599

I have a 1990 Cajun Mastercraft Up here in Montana. 3-4 owner boat. Super heavy. The floor is terrible. But honestly, in MT it's hard to find a good fiberglass bass boat under 10 grand thats used. The best part about the Cajun is the Motor. So reliable. The worst part is the hatches are ALL WOOD. There heavy and built with cheap hardware. I also can never find any original or used parts for it. (because it wasn't very popular) Another odd thing I felt was the the seat cushions right in front of the dash and the walk way right up to the Bow of the boat. Someday Ill replace the floors or buy a new boat. But Last terrible thing was the electrical. I had redo ALL of it. and I mean ALLLLL of it. Great video. Thank you.

Pretty solid list...I don't think I could add anything to these. Not a big fan of Nitro's overall construction but it's TONS better than all these.

Had a Bayliner Bass Striker 1810 at one point that had a 85hp Force. Hated the motor but the boat was ok for what it was at the time.

I got a 1996 Cajun 186s. Rock solid boat. Other than carpets, I put nothing into this boat.
    Why are they gone?
Bought by Ranger and ranger closed them.

Ive seen that bayliner Hahahaha!! It looks awful. However, I had a 95 Astro S-17B with a 120 Force motor. Used that thing for 4 years ALOT! Never had an issue with it. Maybe I sold it just in time.

Almost bought a Quantum with a Force outboard for my first bass boat, luckily a buddy talked me out of it. Bought a Champion instead, never regretted buying a Champ!
Great list, literally laughed out loud during the list recap!!

Yalls dad hated my dad when he bought our Roughneck in 1974 with 115hp Merc. We had the 2nd bassboat in Hempstead county Arkansas with a steering wheel tearing up Millwood.

I had a 1997 200 Bass PRO CRAFT with a 200 MERCURY. Most stable boat I've ever been in. Little tough in rough water. Didn't get wet. 67 mph. Loved that boat. Still wished I had that boat.
