Seether was originally called Saron Gas in South Africa and released one album under the name. When they moved to the States the record label made them change it since it was a synonym to the deadly Sarin Gas. It was 2001-2002 time period and terrorism was top of mind for many folks. They named their band after a song from Veruca Salt. Likely a change for the better imo.

"Oasis" was originally called "The Rain" until Noel Gallagher joined the band.
You could also make the case that "Foo Fighters" was originally called "Late!" because back when Dave Grohl was still in Nirvana, he released a solo demo tape called "Late! Pocketwatch". Two of the songs later became Foo Fighters songs (Winnebago and Friend of a Friend), while Color Pictures of a Marigold (later renamed Marigold) became a Nirvana song.

I never hear you talk a lot about CCR. There barely made it up my top 5 for top 5 bands of all time! They combined rock with a lot of country and added some blues influences into their sound which I find to be very remarkable. Although Bayou Country is a really solid album, they made an excellent 3 album run from Green River to Cosmo's Factory. The hits off of those albums are excellent and the deep cuts are some of the best that any band ever had. I would love to say that they're my favorite southern rock band, but they're not since they weren't from the South. They were, of course from California. Great band, but that last spot in the top 5 is currently held by The Jam, one of my all time favorite bands and I also had to have a metal band up there as well, with Iron Maiden at the number 4 spot. Their 80s material cannot be denied at all.

They liked the word and definition, likening it to the temporal nature of life.

As I grew up I came to realize that this doll might be offensive to darker skinned people. I was over at a co-worker’s house and was shocked to see that he had a collection of Golly’s as he called them. I was confused because he was from Barbados’s. I gave him my Golliwog doll.

“Duck Tape” isn’t a play on words but the correct name . What we call “duct tape” today was invented back in World War II as “duck tape” because it was made from water-resistant duck cloth. Somehow, people started calling it “duct tape” back in the 1960s, and eventually that’s the name that stuck, even though using “duct tape” on actual ducting is a terrible idea. The heat from an HVAC system melts the glue and breaks down the fabric.

I know Deep Blue Something were originally Leper Messiah, inspired by David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. For a while they even referred to their fans as Lepers. The story I've heard (though can't verify it's accuracy) is that they were attracting a very heavy metal crowd to shows with that name, which wasn't exactly ideal for a pop rock band. They then were brainstorming names and someone said Deep Blue something, with the something to be filled in later, but it ended up sticking (again, just what I remember hearing).

The 'Black Sabbath' name is actually disputed in origin. The band Coven (who by strange coincidence also had a member named Oz Osborne) were pretty sure Black Sabbath had been named after one of their songs. Sabbath denied this for a long time but the story eventually changed to 'that might have subconsciously influenced the decision'. Knowing Sabbath there's a chance they weren't even being deceptive and simply can't remember fully but considering early Sabbat's sound had a lot of Coven's influence in it it's hugely unlikely they weren't familiar with that song.
