Lol, I made the same comment. Glycerine is a great song and I do love me some 90s grunge😂. Josh edited this video and he's a youngin and didn't have a grunge phase, lol.
Yeah, as people have said, the song itself parodies Glycerine (great track!). The story in the episode however is definitely inspired by Nirvana's career, with Homer filling the Kurt role - and they DO parody a Nirvana song in the episode ('R*** Me' becomes 'Shave Me', latered parodied itself by Weird Al as 'Brain Freeze' XD ) "He who is tired of Weird Al is tired of life..."

I really hope you do a part 2 because you left off a lot of great bands. I'd love to hear your take on The Rutles, Love Handel from "Phineas and Ferb", Jem and the Holograms(the TV show, not the crappy movie) Strange Fruit from the movie "Still Crazy", Eddie and the Cruisers, all the groups in "That Thing You Do", all the acts in "Grace of My Heart", Julie & The Phantoms, The Commitments, The Five Heartbeats, Ellen Aim and the Attackers and The Sorels from "Streets of Fire", Kidd Video, Sing Street, California Dreams, Catwalk, The Heights, and The Partridge Family.
Good point about Strange Fruit. In the year the movie Still Crazy came out, The Flame Still Burnswon an award for best orignal song trom a movie soundtrack. It is a favorite of mine.
Considering Blues Brothers were actually on tour for several years, I'd say they definitely existed. Yes, the band was made up for a skit on SNL, but they went on to be an actual cover band, and even had some original songs too.
@@duckmyass the chipmunks won 5 Grammys doesn’t mean they exist. The “people” in the band were just characters so they weren’t really a band even though they kind of were but also weren’t.

I was surprised that The Wonders (from That Thing You Do) weren't on this list...that's one of my favorite movies and it always baffles me that people don't know it! Growing up, my family and I would sing along with it all the time...during dinner, on road trips, actually watching the movie...I can't get enough of their songs lol.
Yes! All the "bands" from that movie were phenomenal. Tom Hanks and the other musical writers really showed a lot of talent and understanding of music and genres popular in the 60s. And now I want to go watch it again!
That was my first thought as well! That Thing You Do (the song) was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song and became a genuine hit, charting on the Billboard Hot 100, so I really thought it would be here!
My favourite is definitely the band Infant Sorrow from Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. I believe Russell Brand did all his own singing. Some of the songs are actually decent.
Would have loved to see "Powerline" from Disney's Goofy : The movie in this video. Also a song I KNOW Joel have heard: Cue - Burnin', also a fictional band, that did not exist when they created the movie the song is in, the song got so popular that they named the band from a poster seen in the movie, and then they went on tour.
I gotta say that the movie, Josie and the Pussycats, was freaking hilarious! It had a really smart plot about subliminal messages and how it's so easy to manipulate teens to constantly be chasing the next big thing. Just watch it or at least parts of it. I'm sure there's a video out there that contains the funniest moments of the movie. It definitely takes a weird sense of humor to find it as funny as it is.
I remember reading the comics and loved the movie. I still have the soundtrack for Josie and the Pussycats on my playlist. I am surprised that the girl who played Val also played the new Mimi in Rent.
Electric Mayhem! “Can you picture that” is my fav. If you like MupRock, check out “River Bottom Nightmare band” from the ‘77 tv special “Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas”. Just watch the whole thing, it’s awesome.
I would say that some overlooked ones are the Soggy Bottom Boys - "Man of Constant Sorrow" (from O Brother Where Art Thou), Dewey Cox - "Walk Hard" (from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), Mitch & Mickey - "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" (from A Mighty Wind), The Wonders - "That Thing You Do" (from That Thing You Do!), and The Rutles - "Get Up and Go" (from The Rutles: All You Need is Cash).
"Josie and the Pussycats" was originally a cartoon in the early 1970s. "Jem and the Holograms" from the 80s cartoon as well, later got rebooted into a live movie. If you do another edition of this, I also suggest: - "Mystik Spiral" from the cartoon "Daria" - "Jet Screamer" from "The Jetsons" - "Connor4Real"/"The Style Boyz" from Popstar maybe, tho it's just Andy Samberg/The Lonely Island - "Beck Mongolian Chop Squad" from the Japanese anime of the same name - "Detroit Metal City" from the anime of the same name too
Not sure if this was mentioned, but I would also recommend "Crucial Taunt - Wayne's World". They did 3 songs in the movie, if I remember right. 2 of them was released on the actual sound track. Tia Carrare actually sang lead vocals for all the songs. The cover song "Ballroom Blitz" is great.
*School Of Rock* is one of my favorite fiction band They also do Reunion concert few years ago And It's really sad to know that their Drummer Passed away last year
I'm surprised 2gether wasn't on this list. They were a parody boy band that accidentally got popular and had the worst (best) cheesy songs like "I know my calculus. I says u + me = us" and "the hardest part of breaking up is getting back your stuff"
Whilst fictional, the Blues Brothers spawned many real bands including the Australian Blues Brothers Revival ... I was the keyboard player for 3 months (87 gigs in 91 days) and the core of this tribute band is still gigging in 2022, probably a testament to the Jake Blues anchor Styne. This Aussie bloke has stamina beyond belief and even though I haven't spoken to him for nearly three decades he is a wholesome force in a difficult industry. $0.02
The Blues Brother Band was an actual band. They've done a few concerts, got albums and singles, yada yada. They may have started off as a sketch, but still a real band.
Also, a little fact about that band in Harry Potter 4 is that the main guitarist of Radiohead, Johnny Greenwood, actually plays in it, you can see him behind the singer at around 4:43 in this video!
Some of mine: 1. Crucial Taunt, from the first Wayne's World movie. 2. The Max Reboot Band, from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. 3. Sammi Curr, from Trick or Treat. 4. The Diva Plavalaguna, from The Fifth Element. 5. Armageddon aka Robot KISS, from KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. 6. Rock Roll, from the Flintstones. 7. Black Roses, from the movie Black Roses. 8. Wyld Stallyns from the Bill & Ted mogirs. 9. The nuns from Sister Act.
Another band from Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is The Clash at Demonhead, in which we had the iconic song where we're introduced to Brie Larson's character. Maybe on part 2 you can check it out
That song is genuinely vey good and I'm almost tempted to say it's even better with Brie Larson than the original, though they are both very close to each other.
Edgar Wright made a real documentary about the REAL band Sparks, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last January. 'The Sparks Brothers'. Check it out! "Your favorite band's favorite band" They have been around since 1968, made their first album in 1971, released their 25 album 2020, 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip', just finished the (due to Covid) postponed tour for that album. They had their musical movie 'Annette'premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last summer, directed by Leos Carax, starring Adam Driver, Marion Cottilard and Simon Helberg. Their next album is finished recorded, a new musical movie in progress. The guys, Ron and Russell Mael, brothers, were born in 1945 and 1948. Instead of stagnating, like old bands tend to, these guys just keep on delivering new, fresh material.
My absolute favorites are "Ember McLain" from Danny Phantom and "The Clash at Demonhead" from Scott Pilgrim vs. The world. I would love them to be in a part 2 ! :D
I so want to see a part two! The Hex Girls The Intergalactic Touring Band The original Josie and the Pussie Cats (from the 60s Cartoon) Love Handel (from Phineas and Ferb) Are a few I'd love to see included in future sequels to this video!
The "Blues Brothers" did exist and toured. I saw them live in Dallas, When we went to my sisters after the concert, I noticed the Blues Mobile (with the loudspeaker on top) sitting at the Clubhouse next to her apartment. No one I was with believed me, until I dragged them around back. Seemed pretty cool for a young kid.
I'm so sad "That Thing You Do" or "Music and Lyrics" 's songs were not on this list! Both songs from these films from fake bands were KILLER great (and by the same songwriter, Adam Schlesinger, may he rest in peace).
Yes! What about the Oneders (later changed to the Wonders due to pronunciation difficulties)? Actually every song on the That Thing You Do soundtrack is excellent, and they're all fake bands (Del Paxton, The Saturn Five, The Chantrellines.)
Can't believe that there was no mention of "Ellen Aim and the Attackers" from "Streets of Fire" who did among others two songs written for the movie by Jim Steinman. Then again I'm sorta blown away by Sugar, Sugar. It was like everywhere in the early 70's. Always assumed it was a normal pop-band that did pop-band things...
There's a little known Irish movie that came out in 1991 about a ficticious band called "The Committments". There were a few legit musicians in the movie but most were just actors with crazy good skill. Fake or not, from the 1st time I heard them in 91 they have been and will always be my favorite band ever.
Actually almost all the cast in the Commitments were working musicians who also acted, and many got their start acting with that movie, as the casting was largely done by trawling clubs for musical talents and recruiting talented buskers. Several would go on to have notable careers in music (all 4 members of the Corrs are in the movie in minor roles, only Andrea got a non-musical role). Only the role of Joey 'The Lips' Fagan was cast with an actor (after Van Morrison declined the role) and did no actual recording for the role.
Thank you! If he mentioned The Archies, then the Rutles should be there, too! Their music (and the movie) was sooooo good. I read where Paul told Neil that there could be copyright infringement issues on "Get Up and Go", but nothing happened, as far as I know... "A glass of wine with Gertrude Stein I know I'll never share." "You've got nothing to eines, twei, drei, fier! Goosestep Mama, oh yeah!" Genius!

My all-time faves are definitely "The School of Rock", "The Blues Brothers" and "Steel Dragon" since they remind me of my childhood and my dad (we loved watching The School of Rock and The Blues Brothers together, and later "Rockstar".) He was a true old school hard rocker and he implanted the love for music in me. But the one I'm also very interested in seeing/hearing is the one from Metalocalypse.
Blues Brothers were alright, however DETHKLOK had such great classics such as MURMAIDER, GO INTO THE WATER, AWAKEN and they were just the first 3 songs on the first album...
Roomie, I saw an interview with Jack Black recently where he said that the title song featured here, "School of Rock," was written by a band called The Mooney Suzuki, and they did a lot of the recording. I thought that was interesting. The biggest song in the film was the one he had the least hand in writing.
Most of the songs in school of rock were covers. It featured bands like Led Zepplin, ACDC, Aretha Franklin, Metallica ect. If Jack wrote any maybe one or two. And thats a big maybe.
One of my favorite examples of fictional bands is the official soundtrack album for _That Thing You Do!_ - *every single track* is from an artist or band that only exists within the movie.
I missed Stillwater from Almost Famous, Strange Fruit from Still Crazy, Bandits from Bandits and the Soggy Bottom Boys from Oh, Brother Where Art Thou.
Spinal Tap are actually a real band though? They've done tours all over, including a massive one in the UK at the Royal Albert Hall which is an AMAZING concert! And the songs in the movie were written and played by the actors, who play them live as well! They're all pretty good musicians.
the band that did Shout from Animal House, Otis Day and The Knights. Otis was played by an actor named DeWayne Jessie, he later toured as Otis Day with his family members as the backing band
Spinal Tap was invented for the movie but toured and made quite a few albums. The main band members wrote and preformed the songs. They also were the band the Folksman in the movie The Mighty Wind. The Folksman would open for Spinal Tap on tour.
Even though The Monkees started out not being a real band, they worked really hard to learn to play their instruments and performed live. So, I consider them a real band. They released a ton of hits, had a hit TV show and performed live concerts. That's a real band. Just saying.
The Blues Brothers actually DID exist. Dan Aykroyd turned John Belushi on to Blues and R&B music, and he fell in love with it, and the two of them thought "why can't we do something like this on SNL? Why can't we get a band together?" The first song they did as sort of a test, as a part of a Killer Bees sketch and with the SNL house band, was the blues standard, "I'm a King Bee". They had such a positive reaction that they decided to get together an actual band and do more SNL gigs. Started calling around people they knew in the industry. Started playing together, doing gigs. Even went out on tours and had a hit album (Briefcase Full of Blues)! THEN they decided to ride the band's popularity and make a movie. So even though "Jake" and "Elwood" are made-up personas, all the other members of the band: Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Cropper, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, "Blue" Lou Marini and the rest were all legit blues/R&B musicians and they were a legit band. (Trivia: Lou Marini appeared in another SNL musical skit, Steve Martin's "King Tut".)
Some of my favorite songs ever are from “fake” bands from movies, one I loved so much it was my first dance song at my wedding. 🤣 Infant Sorrow (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Stiff Dylans (Angus, Thongs…), Low Shoulder (Jennifer’s Body), Jem and the Holograms, Julie and the Phantoms, 2ge+her, Robin Sparkles (HIMYM), Lustra (Eurotrip), Alpha Chino (Tropic Thunder), Dewy Cox ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Joel, your editors need to do more research. The Blues Brothers was/is a real band. While the first incarnation was a basically throw-away SNL skit in 1976 (under a different name), the band actually formed afterward off stage as a very deliberate band, releasing their first record (a live record) in 1978 recorded while opening for Steve Martin. The album was #1 on the Billboard 200, and went double platinum. This was *BEFORE* the movie. They released an additional 4 live albums, did 2 additional non-Blues Brothers soundtracks, and several compilation albums over the years. You can say they "started" as a manufactuered band, but they were at least more real than The Monkees (said by a guy who loves The Monkees).
I didn't know all the facts you mentioned, but I was sure they were playing as the Blues Brothers band before the movie was made. Thank you for explaining it!
@@Aqualung1981 I had to look it up to be sure (boy Google's nice ain't it? :) ), but as a child of the 80's, I saw the movie the first time it was on TV and loved it. Then found out my dad had one or two of the vinyls and got even more deeply into the lore. Helps that they picked good songs, even better band members, and that Dan is such a passionate musician to do it right.
Well, you can call it manufactured, but it was Aykroyd and Belushi that created the idea. The SNL skit (with the bee costumes) was a compromise they made to get some air time for the idea. They didn't even form the idea for Blues Brothers at SNL. According to Aykroyd, they came up with the idea after meeting each other at a club and Aykroyd introduced Belushi to blues music. Granted, they didn't *actually* form a group until they were on SNL together and Paul Shaffer encouraged the idea and helped set them up with a backing band, but the idea was already there. Aykroyd had previously played with the Downchild Blues Band and modeled The Blues Brothers after them. Everything I Need (Almost) and Shotgun Blueswritten by Downchild Blues Band and Blues Brothers played it in their style. Those two songs, along with Flip, Flop, and Fly (which Blues Brothers also covered) were on the Downchild Blues Band's second album. It's safe to say DBB had a *massive* influence on Aykroyd.
It sounds like Homer Simpson is parodying the song "Glycerine" by Bush. I'm surprised Joel didn't just pick that right up with his ear & having grown up listening to alternative as he so strongly states at the end of this video.
The only fictional bands I knew before I even watched this video are the "Saiko" band and KS-2, both of which originate from the SMG4 series featuring the songs "Darkest Hour" and "Saikosis", with "Darkest Hour" being created by the former band and "Saikosis" by the latter.
Brendon Small is actually a musical genius. Before he did Metalocalypse he did Home Movies and there is a Franz Kafka musical episode. It's hilarious and amazing!
Glaring Omission: "Stillwater" from the movie Almost Famous. Nancy Wilson from Heart wrote all the songs and they actually sounds like a really good 70's rock band.
Another good catch. All of those songs performed by Stillwater sere written by Peter Frampton, Nancy And ilson and Cameron Crowe. Fever Dog would be my favorite.
To be fair, Spinal Tap actually did become a real band. They started out as just a parody band which led to the mockumentary we all know, but they were all legitimate musicians and actually played all the songs in the film, and after the success of the movie they actually went on tour numerous times! Since then, they've done tonnes of tours, gigs and appearances (all in character), with their most recent being in 2019, and they've had the likes of Cher, Slash, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Mick Fleetwood appear as 'session musicians' over the years. So, they are actually legit, and have a ton of respect in the music world! Oh, and one of the band members, Harry Shearer, is a voice actor on the Simpsons. He voiced characters like Mr Burns, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Smithers, Kent Brockman and a ton of others.
A lot of fake bands became real Blues Brothers, The Monkeys, The Partridge Family, Tenacious D. Joaquin Phoenix even performed as a Johnny Cash cover band for a bit.
@@JeppeBeier Arguable. Their first performance was at an acting showcase. They had one performance after that at an actual music forum and were discovered by David Cross who put them in Mr. Show where they were playing themselves. That show was when they were named Tenacious D, but they only had 1 song. After that, they did make a brief run in the music scene as an opening act, but they only had a few songs and then they got their own show on HBO. I suppose you could call that a real band. The lines get blurred for a comedy band sometimes. Some comedy bands are clearly real bands while others it can be hard to say if the band itself is a joke or of the band is telling the jokes.
@@Sam_on_CZcams I wouldn't call Tenacious D a joke. Sure a lot of their songs have a comedic nature, but they are clearly passionate for music and know how to make good music. Even an opening band is still a band, and they have also since done concerts. I see definitely see them as a real band.
Hmmm, just because The Blues Brothers only played on SNL doesn't mean they didn't exist. I even have a live album of the band with Ackroyd and Belushi. Their band even toured internationally, and I had the pleasure of seeing them in the late eighties with Larry Thurston and Eddie Floyd doing the vocals. What a great night THAT was!
The actors/singers from This is Spinal Tap are one of the "bands" in Mighty Wind, which is based on a folk-style festival, with multiple "bands" made of actors with decent singing voices, but generally known for their acting, not their singing.
I did know some of them like Gorillaz, Josie and The Pussycats, and School of Rock since I love Tenacious D. But the rest I didn't know, that is so cool!!!!
The Blues Brothers were actually a band. They released several albums, and most famously, they opened for the Grateful Dead at the last concert at the Winterland Ballroom on New Years Eve, 1978.
I was hoping to see the Wonders (originally “the Oneders”) from the movie “That Thing You Do”. It was a movie about the rise and fall of a fictional band that has a 1 hit wonder.
You forgot two really great "fake" bands: The Commitments had a killer soundtrack that sold millions. The Rutles was a spoof of the Beatles in the mockumentary by Eric Idle.
@@jimsteinmanfan80 hell the blues brothers were a band before and after the movie including two world tours granted a lot was guess singers but that doesnt make them a fictional band.
Interestingly enough, the most actor/actress in the movie who has become most famous was not in the band: Andrea Corr of The Corrs, starring the manager's sister.
By the way, the song “We all die young” is a cover. It was originally made by the band Steelheart in 1996. The Steel Dragon version was in 2001. It’s actually a kinda popular song to cover since there’s also a version by Eden’s Curse in 2007, and another one by a band named Cameltoe. Pretty good song in all versions imo

Josie and the Pussycats is originally from Archie comics, and in second part you can react to version from Riverdale ;) also "Phineas and Ferb" had some songs, for me most memorable is "gitchee gitchee goo". Homer was in a couple of bands throughout the Simpson's, which is amazing. The Beets released two music videos that I can remember- "I need more allowance" and "Banging on a Trashcan"

Exactly. besides the music he's dressed like Cobain from Nirvana and playing a jagstangesque guitar.
Thank you... i came to comment just to make sure that this was cleared up.
Yeah, the other songs out of that episode were way more close to Nirvana with one being a direct parody called "shave me".
I fell really old all the sudden, when that song came out it was inescapable, and I got sick of hearing it.
I would like to see a part 2 with Lemonade Mouth in it. I love their songs so much and I still jam to them to this day
That’s what I came here for, every song slapped. If they were a real band in the early 2010s they would’ve been hella popular
I was about to say this. I love their songs.
Yes! + songs from the band in Phineas and Ferb

How a list like this can exist without either Strange Fruit (from Still Crazy) or the Wonders/Oneders (from That Thing You Do) is beyond me.
wonders, monkees, partridge family... etc...
I hope there will be a second video regarding this
Good point about Strange Fruit.
I thought the same thing. Even the Gorillaz toured i thought
@@Flieguy yeah, but Gorillaz literally didn't exist.
The Blues Brothers were even nominated for a Grammy... So I'm pretty sure they actually existed.

I get That Thing You Do stuck in my head sometimes lol
Came here to bring the Wonders up. Love that movie.
My mom loves that movie and the song. I had to watch it soo many times. Lol. She even had the CD :) my fav was Guy :P
I love tevin Campbell's singin
I gotta say that the movie, Josie and the Pussycats, was freaking hilarious! It had a really smart plot about subliminal messages and how it's so easy to manipulate teens to constantly be chasing the next big thing. Just watch it or at least parts of it. I'm sure there's a video out there that contains the funniest moments of the movie. It definitely takes a weird sense of humor to find it as funny as it is.
I love Josie and the pussycats movie the soundtracks is brilliant
Haven't seen the movie, but I have vague memories of it being one of my favorite cartoons at one point. Good to know it has a good plot.
Also haven’t watch it. But ive seen them in the series called Riverdale
I remember reading the comics and loved the movie. I still have the soundtrack for Josie and the Pussycats on my playlist. I am surprised that the girl who played Val also played the new Mimi in Rent.
This was definitely one of my favorites
I feel like roomie should do a “small artists turned big” video, i think seeing smaller artists grow and how they grew would be cool
Electric Mayhem!
“Can you picture that” is my fav.
If you like MupRock, check out “River Bottom Nightmare band” from the ‘77 tv special “Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas”. Just watch the whole thing, it’s awesome.
Would be interesting to see a deep dive on Gorillaz career, now that they been around for 20+ years.

True, probably he should check out on Gorillaz hits songs from first album to latest one
We need a part 2! There are so many fake bands in animated shows
If there is a part 2 I would love to see the hex girls included
If there is a part 2 they got to include Wyatt's band in 6teen. Or include Sunset Curve/ Julie and the Phantoms too.
And also all 7 of the bands in Bang Dream
I was waiting for Poweline the entire video, we for real need a part 2!
HTT from K-On should definitely be there, that anime has so many killer songs
If you do another edition of this, I also suggest:
- "Mystik Spiral" from the cartoon "Daria"
- "Jet Screamer" from "The Jetsons"
- "Connor4Real"/"The Style Boyz" from Popstar maybe, tho it's just Andy Samberg/The Lonely Island
- "Beck Mongolian Chop Squad" from the Japanese anime of the same name
- "Detroit Metal City" from the anime of the same name too
Wasn’t it like the girl version of archie? That’s how i remember it.
@@Peacefrogg Yes, they were a spinoff from the Archie comics.
The Weird Sisters are extremely popular within the wizarding world itself. Us, the fans were just extremely excited by their performance in the movie.
I remember that one of the guys from Radiohead was there as well, the guitarist was Jonny Greenwood
The other two songs are better, idk why they didn't mention those in the video
The Wyrd Sisters is a band from Winnipeg, Manitoba, celtic/pagan style and their songs are very good.
I love how you remembered the weird sisters
Theyʻre not fake... lol thanks for putting this comment.
Sex Bob-omb is one of the only fictional bands I would demand multiple albums from and I would see live. It’s my taste in music all in one package.

if you like them would recommend checking out Beck he was the one who wrote most of the songs from what I've read.
Their music is based off of Beck actually alot of the songs are covers.
I need more Gorillaz content, their music is so unique also, Happy new year Joel!
I've always wanted to hear something from the shitty Beatles!
Suggestions for a part 2: Big Time Rush, Wyld Stallyns for Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure, and all the bands from Phineas and Pherb

*School Of Rock* is one of my favorite fiction band
They also do Reunion concert few years ago
And It's really sad to know that their Drummer Passed away last year
Really? They do reunion concerts? LOL, how did I not know?!
NO WAY
I'm surprised 2gether wasn't on this list. They were a parody boy band that accidentally got popular and had the worst (best) cheesy songs like "I know my calculus. I says u + me = us" and "the hardest part of breaking up is getting back your stuff"
😂 Omg, I remember this!! Those songs were actually pretty catchy, lmao!
Also, a little fact about that band in Harry Potter 4 is that the main guitarist of Radiohead, Johnny Greenwood, actually plays in it, you can see him behind the singer at around 4:43 in this video!
and the singer himself is Jarvis Cocker of Pulp (80s/90s Britpop band)

Maybe on part 2 you can check it out
I listen to it often honestly. It's my favorite song from the movie
That song is genuinely vey good and I'm almost tempted to say it's even better with Brie Larson than the original, though they are both very close to each other.

They have been around since 1968, made their first album in 1971, released their 25 album 2020, 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip', just finished the (due to Covid) postponed tour for that album.

I'm so sad "That Thing You Do" or "Music and Lyrics" 's songs were not on this list! Both songs from these films from fake bands were KILLER great (and by the same songwriter, Adam Schlesinger, may he rest in peace).
Wait, that's the same songwriter? No wonder I'm obsessed with both, listen to both soundtracks, and think both should be cult classics!
Yes! What about the Oneders (later changed to the Wonders due to pronunciation difficulties)? Actually every song on the That Thing You Do soundtrack is excellent, and they're all fake bands (Del Paxton, The Saturn Five, The Chantrellines.)
Pop goes my heart is an absolute banger
I was totally waiting for The Wonders
I'll second Pop Goes my Heart from Music & Lyrics! I was expecting that to make the list!
“Sugar, Sugar” was written by Andy Kim (“Rock Me Gently”)
Great movie. Band's in-movie music was mostly covers, though, so might not be suitable for the list.
my dad still to this day pops in his copy of the Committments all the time
Is The Commitments considered little known? I have both their albums lol.
The Committments is a fake band??!!?!
One of my favorite fictional bands was The Rutles. The band was created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes for a sketch in a BBC show back in the '70's
Ouch! You're breaking my heart! Ouch! I'm falling apart! Ouch! Ouch! Ouuuu-ch!
Thank you! If he mentioned The Archies, then the Rutles should be there, too! Their music (and the movie) was sooooo good. I read where Paul told Neil that there could be copyright infringement issues on "Get Up and Go", but nothing happened, as far as I know...

Roomie, I saw an interview with Jack Black recently where he said that the title song featured here, "School of Rock," was written by a band called The Mooney Suzuki, and they did a lot of the recording. I thought that was interesting. The biggest song in the film was the one he had the least hand in writing.

I still have my 45 single of “Rubber Biscuit” 😂
Shiny Teeth and Me is a classic.
You guys should have Sev'ral Timez from gravity falls next time. 😆
It sounds like Homer Simpson is parodying the song "Glycerine" by Bush. I'm surprised Joel didn't just pick that right up with his ear & having grown up listening to alternative as he so strongly states at the end of this video.

They also performed as a parody folk band, A Mighty Wind, and would sometimes open for themselves in concert.
@@Sam_on_CZcams When was Tenacious D a fake band? I thought they started out as a real band and has since then been a real band all along?.
They toured....equals real band with real singing and real music. Sting's real name isn't Sting.
The actors/singers from This is Spinal Tap are one of the "bands" in Mighty Wind, which is based on a folk-style festival, with multiple "bands" made of actors with decent singing voices, but generally known for their acting, not their singing.
But is Lil Pitchy real? That’s what I wanna know.
Clearly not. We only ever see Roomie but only ever hear of Lil Pitchy.
I did know some of them like Gorillaz, Josie and The Pussycats, and School of Rock since I love Tenacious D. But the rest I didn't know, that is so cool!!!!
Shiney Teeth is a hard banger... Chip Skylark was a genuine icon, even if it's undertones are vanity😂
Only made hits fr
The Blues Brothers were actually a band. They released several albums, and most famously, they opened for the Grateful Dead at the last concert at the Winterland Ballroom on New Years Eve, 1978.
Best band that never existed:
• Sergent Pepper's lonely heart club band
I was hoping to see The Soggy Bottom Boys from O Brother Where Art Thou but this video was amazing
I was hoping to see the Wonders (originally “the Oneders”) from the movie “That Thing You Do”. It was a movie about the rise and fall of a fictional band that has a 1 hit wonder.
Deathklok is a real band that Brendan Small tours every summer. The song Homer sang is "Glyserine" by Oasis.
You forgot two really great "fake" bands:
The Commitments had a killer soundtrack that sold millions.
The Rutles was a spoof of the Beatles in the mockumentary by Eric Idle.
Just like Blues brothers I think The Rutles both released a studio album and played live.
The monkees and the Wonders from that thing you do also hat hit songs.
@@jimsteinmanfan80 hell the blues brothers were a band before and after the movie including two world tours granted a lot was guess singers but that doesnt make them a fictional band.
I think you must have confused me with somebody else @@jip300 We both argue that The blues brothers was not a fake band.
Interestingly enough, the most actor/actress in the movie who has become most famous was not in the band: Andrea Corr of The Corrs, starring the manager's sister.
Margerine from the Simpsons is a parody of the song by Bush- Glycerine😂
By the way, the song “We all die young” is a cover. It was originally made by the band Steelheart in 1996. The Steel Dragon version was in 2001. It’s actually a kinda popular song to cover since there’s also a version by Eden’s Curse in 2007, and another one by a band named Cameltoe. Pretty good song in all versions imo
I am so glad someone mentioned this! I liked the movie ROCK STAR, it was about music 🎼. Steelheart actually have some pretty good songs, IMO. We All Die Young, (the movie version) was one of my favorite songs. And the song Mark “sings” at the end, when Jennifer walks into the place, “Colorful” , by The Verve Pipe, I liked as well!
Off topic, but WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CALLS THEIR BAND CAMELTOE???
Josie and the Pussycats is originally from Archie comics, and in second part you can react to version from Riverdale ;) also "Phineas and Ferb" had some songs, for me most memorable is "gitchee gitchee goo". There probably was a lot of "bands" in Disney movies (for example "Lemonade Mouth"... I was remembered about it few days ago in fast food place - they had Disney playlist on ♥)
When you had absolutely no clue The Archies weren't real & now feel like you don't know what's real anymore 😂
We need a part 2! I was hoping to see The Wonders, but I hope they show up in a future video!
Me: *screaming from excitement as soon as I got the notification*
Joel: you're a little bit pitchy at the end of that scream..
Homer was in a couple of bands throughout the Simpson's, which is amazing. The Beets released two music videos that I can remember- "I need more allowance" and "Banging on a Trashcan"
Thank you for giving us content this whole year Joel! You’re amazing, have an awesome 2022 🥳🎉
The best part about Spinal Tap is some actually big rock artists from that era thought they were a real band. My dad even got to see them in concert a couple times.
You know Joel is late on his recording schedule when he leaves his mask on his arm.
👀 😅
Btw, i didn't know some of these songs where from movies ...
And i had DVD and the cd of Josie and the pussycat, lol.
I love the Cab Calloway bit in Blues Brothers. I feel it's overlooked.
