Guilty - "I only use my phone when I'm stopped" Ms GDPR LJ63AXU

- The driver pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to 6 penalty points, £333 fine and £133 costs. I bet she was shocked when she saw the video footage, so shocked that she realised the only thing to do was to plead guilty. Clearly she was using the phone whilst moving, not that it matters, because being in charge of a car stopped in a queue of traffic is enough to meet the conviction threshold.

The fact it went on for so long before she noticed him kind of proves how unaware of her surroundings she was and how invested in her phone she was
She clearly did not do a single offside mirror check which she should have done several times and particularly before the island in the middle of the road.
Exactly
Keep in mind, this is from 2014.... watch all of it, if you want, or cue it to 2:40 for the whole point of what Mikey was doing.... czcams.com/video/9N1iw5Vdim8/video.html
@@VerilyVerbatim this clearly isn’t from 2014
@@VerilyVerbatim it's not from 2014 it's from 2020 it says it at the start of the video
So sad that this society can’t stop staring at their phones for the short time while they’re driving.
this is a driver who failed to check her mirrors for about 5 minutes straight... being in a slow moving queue does not mean you can just zone out! I'm both motorist and cyclist and I think that's shameful
If Mickey had been a serial killer from one of those horror movies she would be already dead.
"I only do it when I'm stopped."
So, not only an illegal phone user, but a blatant liar too.
I'm curious as to how far she travelled whilst she was "stopped"... I wonder if her car really is an automatic...
I only do it when I'm stopped...stopped paying attention to driving I mean
In most US states, the car must be off the road and the transmission in the neutral or park position. Some states may require the engine to be off, but I doubt that an officer would cite someone in that circumstance, provided the driver was in a parking space and off of the road.
@@ms-in5ub Lmao. Nice.
I genuinely thought this would be another vigilante cycling channel but... As a motorcycle commuter in London (pre covid days) I've seen so many distracted drivers that I think Mike's efforts are commendable.
He really does do a great job.
Why don't he just become a police officer. MUG
I’ve been hit twice from behind by people playing in their phones while creeping in heavy traffic in the last year alone. Great work you’re doing!
as a motorbike rider i respect this, too many distracted drivers everywhere
GDPR???
I nearly fell off the sofa laughing at that one.
What a load of nonsense eh? People seem to think they have rights and entitlements these days.
Yeah I had a chuckle when she came out with that crock of shit.
I am so grateful that people like you exist. As both a cyclist and car driver, I can fully appreciate the serious dangers that distracted drivers pose to other members of public. Thank you so much.
I only use my phone when I'm stopped... and when I'm moving.
Nice. How's the working out for you?
@@hplovehandle r/whoosh
This person being completely oblivious is amazing. Back in 2015 a man here in the States, in San Diego, died after falling off a cliff while fixated on his phone. He was on foot. Adding in the weight and power a vehicle has, it's amazing that people would try to defend it or deny wrongdoing.
I'm sick of mindless idiots driving while using a mobile phone, I see it every day. " I only do it when I'm stopped", yeah right!
We'll never know how many accidents or even deaths you have prevented Mikey but you are a true legend and you are making a positive difference....respect 🙌
Thanks very much!
Best part is it’s still just as illegal when stopped. Kinda like arguing ‘I only murder people with axes!’
@@CyclingMikey I hope you forwarded this video to the police.
The fact she never noticed you the whole time is hilarious
Same here😂
An ignorant oblivious bitch that's what that thing is.
Aside from her attention being on her phone the guy sat in her blind spot the majority of the time
Proves how much distracted people are when they are on their phone.
I would not have noticed him, and I do not use my phone whilst driving. I also do not really check my blindspot when in heavy traffic unless i need to change lanes.
I think when she said that's GDPR - she actually meant it's a "Great Display of Public Recording".
Great Disrespect of Public Roads
I would not be surprised to see that in the year since this woman was caught, that she will have slipped back into texting/browsing whilst driving. Too many people live on their phones and just can't break the addiction.
This clip should be used in training courses to show how distracted the phone makes people, a ban for due care would have been more appropriate imo.
You just know she still won't have accepted that she was wrong either.
@tony curtis definitely some should. But how that's relevant to this video I don't know 🤷♂️
I really think that people who do this would see this video and not think it applies to them. Oh sure SHE was distracted but THEY would be looking at the road much more while using their phone. It's the mentality that the rules don't apply to them that is the issue. Some people just need points and a disqualification to get them off the road for everyone's safety. I do hold out hope that maybe some people change their attitude after the safety courses though.
That was actually shocking! She was so engrossed in her phone that you were able to sit in plain view for that long without her noticing. When the pedestrians were waiting to cross she was not paying any attention to driving!
You could have recorded her inputting bank details and stolen her identity she was that oblivious. The sort of person who leaves their laptop open on the table while queuing for another coffee. If sitting in traffic is so tedious you need distraction, either put the radio or some tunes on, or walk to your destination.
@@duncangreen2483 Exactly. It's the perfect opportunity for an audiobook. Learn while you drive.
She is not only a danger to others but for herself as well. Take a look how she's wearing the seatbelt.
Yep. If she hits anything her face is going to make a mess of the steering wheel.
As an aside, that’s an impressive cycle lane you got there. Wish we had them like that in our city.
Amazing how long GDPR has been in effect for and how many people still have no clue what it actually is
Arrogance has been around even longer would you believe!
Yeah.. it's a 'scary' term you can throw at someone. Funny, no personal data was collected in this video.
I dare you to "fall off your bike" in front of this woman's front bumper and lie on the ground, she'd run you over and still be scrolling through google until the bump snapped her out of it! She didn't even look up to move her car ahead each time 😯
Nope!!! That'll hurt haha!
That’s so freakin sad shes so oblivious of someone next to her!
I always select a big playlist on Spotify then put the phone in my armrest and that’s where it stays for the entire 6 or so hours.
Don’t give up, you are doing a sterling job. I have witnessed hundreds of accidents on our motorways, some fatal due to these selfish types. Well done sir. I admire you.
+1. Thank you Mikey!
Hes a great bit of stuff say he gets some hassle still he keeps doing it
Ahahahahahahaha can’t believe how long it took her to notice you 🤣
Lol I wonder why she was oblivious to her surroundings?
Scary, isn't it?
As a young driver myself i find it incredible how many "Self entitled Londoner workers" young and old feel like it is a great idea to do this, and only with your evidence we can get them off the road, Surprised that the police don't hire Cyclists to monitor this.
Mate it’s not just London it’s all over the UK. The problem is they don’t think they’ll be caught and even if they are the points and fines are too low. I’d really like to see either a 1 year driving ban or better still have their cars taken off them and sold at auction with proceeds going to help solve crime.
@cats zo Try 26 years then you'll see all sorts
I have seen a vid of a police officer on a motorbike with a helmet camera purposely out to catch people using their phones whilst driving and pulling them over. But their needs to be a whole team of them hired all over the country . Im sick of seeing people distracted because they are using their mobile behind the wheel. I've had people hit me whilst I'm stationary because their on their phones. Swerve at me on the wrong side of rd because they looking at their phones. And I wasn't there but a few years ago a young guy hit my nan but running a red light and i have to wonder if his phone was a distraction! Thank god she was OK. Luckily! But she was frightened and battered and bruised and she's lucky the shock alone didn't kill her and so is he. And like I say I wasn't there so I don't know but these days when u hear of a driver being distracted and making a mistake its the first thing in all our minds... we're they on their phone! Anybody who thinks cycling Mikey is a moron is a clearly a shit driver clearly incompetent and shouldnt be allowed behind the wheel of a death machine and clearly a shit excuse for a human being!
@@wokeupandsmellthecoffee214 with a name like yours I heavily doubt that your driving is always 100% within the law. Hope you can take your lumps when they take your bike and auction it off because you wanted to push the limits on a quiet open section of road.
I can't walk and use my phone, let alone drive.
Thank you so much for making the effort to make the roads safer!
Deserved every penny of that fine. Blatantly comfortable with lying. The kind of person that would deny they did anything wrong if they caused a death on the roads.
At first I thought you should have introduced yourself sooner,
After her reaction, I'm glad you had all that footage of using whilst car was rolling
Should've had her license revoked for that, insurance invalidated and vehicle impounded. This crime needs to be treated as seriously as drink driving, 1 year ban first offence, 18 months 2nd and so on. Great work Mikey. 👍
I don't think she was wearing a seatbelt either.
For that level of “ unawarenessosity “ she deserves a much bigger fine
Mint word. 😀👍
I see you've reached a new level of spoonerism there... congratulations...!
Never mind a fine and points, it should be an automatic 3-month ban on conviction for first offence and a 1-year ban and car confiscated for a second offence. Maybe that would get the message across 😡
She could drive clean over someone and probably wouldn't notice.
Hopefully her JCW insurance will go through the roof!
The fact these people are oblivious to your presence right outside their window really says a lot.
Can almost understand someone replying to a message or taking a call but she is literally just aimlessly browsing the Internet. Why someone would risk fines and losing their licence for that is beyond my comprehension
People who use phones whilst in charge of a motor vehicle should be banned for life. You cannot accidently use a phone whilst driving. It is a deliberate offence, resulting so many times with people being killed, or injured.
Need more people like you out on the roads, top work mate
Much appreciated
I'm glad you let the clip run, I laughed the whole time (what a dipsh-t). I loved the cabbie giving you the salute, he knows the value of your efforts. all the best, Mikey.
This is why I do not have a phone.... temptation....
GDPR- the last refuse of anyone losing an argument
"And that's against GDPR" 😃😄😆😅😂🤣🤣 She also fancies having a nasty chest injury, judging by the way she's wearing her seatbelt...
This channel should be called “Catching Karen’s” 😂 fantastic work bru 🇬🇧🇿🇦
And its her attitude that gets us killed
Don't ever stop Mikey! You do great work, bringing a shock and a 'Don't Use Your Phone When Driving' reminder to these selfish dangerous idiots.
That woman is unreal 😬😬 and shouldn't have a licence 🤯🤯
This leads to poor concentration also and an accident waiting to happen...Well done Mikey...
Good Job Mickey :) It reminds me why I put my phone in the glove compartment. Its connect to the cars speaker system. I will only answer when i am pulled over and to my partener when she calls 3 time in a row. We need more people like you.
You really should start a nationwide campaign/group having cyclists do this... It really is getting ridiculous!
Obviously current fines etc mean nothing, how about an automatic 12 month ban with a £1000 fine, and having to retake a test, whenever they can fit you in ? well, we can all dream!
If I had my way that would be an immediate six month driving ban for a first offence, and permanent ban for a second offense.
Love your videos. Keep catching them!
She has a very different definition of stopped than I do.
Nice job. I ride motorbikes and it is so annoying to see car drivers on their phone. Its scary how they drive when they are texting. I caught a driver a couple of months ago that strayed the white line because he was going around a blind corner whilst texting. Needless to say i reported him, especially when he tried to deny it but i had proof.
It's great that you caught her doing all of that craziness. I did think it would have been awesome if you'd had an airhorn towards the end. She would have crapped herself. But to be realistic, she was so unaware of her surroundings, she probably would have smashed into the back of that cab. What a disgusting show of driving. I'm glad you caught her!
The brazen lying at the end! Oof.
The fact she didn't notice you shows how distracted she is, disgusting behaviour
5:12 there's no way on this earth that she didn't spot you there!
Oh wait, it appears there is.
No wonder why insurance is soo high 🙄😒
Another great video.
I can't believe she was so unaware of her surrounding in traffic. GDPR my foot...
😂👍
Incredible that she didn't spot you in a few seconds.
i was a van and lorry driver for over 30 yes and this act is now the cause of more accidents than actual bad driving. people can not leave their phones for 1 min. should be compulsory to put phones away whilst in charge of vehicle. pity few more dont get done
After watching these back to back I will now not use my phone when stationary i didn't know it was an offence
Even parked up with the engine running you can't use phone.
Not a big mirror user, apparently.
These people need to completely lose their licences, not just points. I nearly got T.boned the other day by a bus, whilst riding my bike because I had to go around a phone users car that was sat on a green light at a crossing. His positioning was awful and gave me no choice to go to the outside of the lane. Great job Mikey, keep them coming!
Think all your video's weather phone use or driving down wrong way are Brilliant keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great job man, keep up the good work 👌👌
She must be heading for a world record in driving while on the phone.
A period on 2 wheels (pedal or motor) MUST be a part of the driving test to get the perspective of the roads most vulnerable users!
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. There is no data to protect here. The woman was clearly flustered by being caught out that, rather than just apologise, she said the first thing she could think of to try to excuse her actions - and made an utter fool of herself too. Well done!
The irony that if she'd been driving correctly, with no phone, she'd have noticed Mikey in seconds.
Absolutely shocking. Phone mounts cost less than a gallon of petrol, there's just no excuse for this. Keep it up, Mikey.
Excellent Keep the good work up mate
Keep up the good work, the rule should be equally the same for everyone 👍
I am a motorist and I am delighted you do this. Too many lives have been lost due to selfish, arrogant phone users when driving. This includes Malcolm Petherwick phone using murdering supporter.
Good for you mate - keep fighting the good fight. Take no prisoners. Zero tolerance. Ex forces, 60 year old male, BMW driver
Question mikey? If someone is on a motorbike using a phone do you report them? Would that be fair. I would report them all.
well done and bravo for you doing this that woman is why we get ques longer than we should
Brilliant work!
The fact that he allowed it to continue for so long before suggesting that she put it down.
You are doing a great job, my brothers was killed by a driver using a phone. They are selfish stupid people
She even has her reading glasses on to look at her phone, then has taken them off near the end. So she had planned to be looking at the phone for a length of time
How many points would you score if you were caught getting noshed off whilst driving?
That would be kinda funny 🤣🤣🤪🤣
@@SGM805 I filmed one guy looking at porn LOL.
Is the porn guy in your CZcams videos? Imagine that, sad enough to be watching porn while driving/in a queue. Come on people, get some standards!
I don't know where that stretch of road is but if it's like that every day I'd find another way to get where I need to be.
It cuts through a park (well 2 parks Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens) but one green space).
@@kierenkd Last year, when extinction rebellion were about, the council said they would get rid of the cars on that stretch altogether because of the idling pollution. It was supposed to be bikes and taxis only.
I am totally speachless of her arrogance and how oblivious she was for a vast length of time. People like her should be restricted to getting the bus because they don't appreciate how dangerous a vehicle can be in the wrong hands and clearly don't respect her licence.
I hate this phone fiddling idiots in the car. There often standing in front of the traffic lights and they are missing to drive on when the lights are green.
If she checked her door mirror she would have noticed you,
She isn't wearing her seatbelt.
Thank you for making the roads a more safer place for everyone.
What I'm astonished by is that she didn't notice you, at all during that. Shows how much of a distraction it was!
Brilliant work you do priceless
If she’s oblivious to you for that length of time, because you’ll be in her mirror, it’s quite obviously driving without due care.
"that's GDPR" 🤣🤣🤣 - priceless!
Keep the good work up get these idiots to pay the price, I had a good friend who was in her car waiting to pull out of a junction, when this young woman on her phone smashed into her with her car both drivers were seriously injured my friend is still have back problems from this accident so when ever you get these idiots comment on what you are doing I hope these idiots don't go through someone driving in to them on the phone!
Keep going @CyclingMikey your doing a cracking job...Thank you
Always amazes me how people justify using a phone while driving is a ok thing to do. Blows my mind. You'd see more of this on the motorway in rush hour before the pandemic. People driving at 60-70mph in the outside lane... in traffic with kids... good job 👏
I love how she becomes so indignant when caught! I've used computers since the C64, I'm a computer systems engineer by profession these days. I absolutely love tech and all things related, but I simply can't understand why people can't put their phones down these days. We're a nation of zombies, transfixed on the little devices in our hands, oblivious to the world around us. It's really sad to see. People think I'm crazy for being so anti-phone considering my line of work, but the majority of people who actually use tech for a living, and understand it completely, seldom use their phones in such an addicted manner. There are some interesting papers from Silicon Valley which show the higher ups for the majority of the websites people are addicted to (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok et al) rarely let their own children near the websites because of the damage they cause. Not only do they distract you from the world around you, they absolutely destroy your self esteem and attention span. They hook in to people's addictive tendencies, the websites are specifically developed with this objective by design.
Put your phones done, whether you're driving or not, and do yourself a favour. I went to a friend's going-away drinks a few years ago and I always like to observe the world around me. At a table not far away was a family; father, mother, two children. The mother and kids were all sat there on their phones while the father was sat there looking at them. You could see he was thinking "what am I doing with my life". He'd taken them out for a nice meal and an afternoon out the house and the three of them simply couldn't put their phones down. He looked utterly depressed as a result. I caught his attention at one point and shared a knowing smile. I love technology, but I hate what it has done to people.
Why don't you just become a policeman
Even in slow moving traffic, I'm checking my mirrors often. How can she go for that long without noticing you right at her side? Screw the 6 points and a fine, these people need their licenses taking away.
She couldn’t see you because you were in her blind spot . Which is anywhere but her phone screen.
Utter legend mate
