Guilty - "I only use my phone when I'm stopped" Ms GDPR LJ63AXU

  • The driver pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to 6 penalty points, £333 fine and £133 costs. I bet she was shocked when she saw the video footage, so shocked that she realised the only thing to do was to plead guilty. Clearly she was using the phone whilst moving, not that it matters, because being in charge of a car stopped in a queue of traffic is enough to meet the conviction threshold.

It's the mentality that the rules don't apply to them that is the issue. Some people just need points and a disqualification to get them off the road for everyone's safety. I am totally speachless of her arrogance and how oblivious she was for a vast length of time. People like her should be restricted to getting the bus because they don't appreciate how dangerous a vehicle can be in the wrong hands and clearly don't respect her licence.

Always amazes me how people justify using a phone while driving is a ok thing to do. Blows my mind. You'd see more of this on the motorway in rush hour before the pandemic. People driving at 60-70mph in the outside lane... in traffic with kids... good job 👏

I love how she becomes so indignant when caught! I've used computers since the C64, I'm a computer systems engineer by profession these days. I absolutely love tech and all things related, but I simply can't understand why people can't put their phones down these days. We're a nation of zombies, transfixed on the little devices in our hands, oblivious to the world around us. It's really sad to see. People think I'm crazy for being so anti-phone considering my line of work, but the majority of people who actually use tech for a living, and understand it completely, seldom use their phones in such an addicted manner. There are some interesting papers from Silicon Valley which show the higher ups for the majority of the websites people are addicted to (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok et al) rarely let their own children near the websites because of the damage they cause. Not only do they distract you from the world around you, they absolutely destroy your self esteem and attention span. They hook in to people's addictive tendencies, the websites are specifically developed with this objective by design.
Put your phones done, whether you're driving or not, and do yourself a favour. I went to a friend's going-away drinks a few years ago and I always like to observe the world around me. At a table not far away was a family; father, mother, two children. The mother and kids were all sat there on their phones while the father was sat there looking at them. You could see he was thinking "what am I doing with my life". He'd taken them out for a nice meal and an afternoon out the house and the three of them simply couldn't put their phones down. He looked utterly depressed as a result. I caught his attention at one point and shared a knowing smile. I love technology, but I hate what it has done to people.
