The word "Curse" ties everything together. It starts with Yoko Taro's explanation for NieR title meaning. Which he didn't give but said "It's a curse". "Everything becomes zero. Born again. Fight. Kill. Then I will see her again. Even if it is a curse." "Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse?" Variations on that quote from NieR: Automata gives the idea of what that curse is: "Everything that lives is designed to end. They are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. However, life is all about the struggle within this cycle. That is what 'we' believe." But what's with the NieR's name? ReiN in French means "nothing", and NieR means "deny, negate", the opposite of nothing. The final piece - the name of the track that plays in the title screen of NieR: Automata - Significance/Nothing. Track names have meaning, and this track is special, it's not tied to any character, place, or event. It's tied to the whole game itself, on the same level as the game title. Life is a given but there is no designed meaning to it, no goal, no purpose, nothing objectively important. Only a journey, a path from beginning to end and again. And yet we desperately want to have a purpose, we find it hard to live without one. That is a curse
You’re an underrated Nier/Drakengard lore channel. Deserves more attention, probably if you edit your videos with effects and transitions it would catch more views, but good commentary nonetheless!
I wonder if this would lead to more official translated content, such as the NieR Reincarnation novelization, the Drakengard 3 Ending E (Story Side) novella, or Complete Guide Artbook
Me during the day: being cheerful and wanting to encourage children to be happy and make positive choices. Me after school: making videos about a sad and pretty violent niche video game series.
I’m so glad you made a video on this amazing work as always Derian (Honestly I’m glad that Papa NieR/Gestalt got its own double page spread and helps explain who he is to those who either didn’t know about him or who the man they played in the Diary colosseum/15 nightmares DLC in 1.22)
You should do a 6 hours lore video (including only the 2 Nier titles). Analyzing all the plot points in the game, decisions that have been made and to what consequences they lead. Then the short stories, novels, speculation, theories...6 hours is a realistic mark. Hit it, bro.
@@TheBigDerian that's the spirit. I have watched dozens of videos, but I still didn't get the whole picture of who the Shadowlord really is, why he did what he did and why Nier still lives when humanity is long gone, etc.
another great video. I had the japanese version of this book for awhile and had no idea of the hiddent story. sure enough I removed the cover and there it was xD
Since Admin K was stuck in a loop, wouldn't this also mean that Kaine as a singularity has unknowningly created thousands of divergences or branches? considering she's also the reason why Admin P exists.
@@TheBigDerian It is said at the end of the People and The World story we should be getting a new character. Plus, the official website there are two unidentified bios. I think one of them will end up being the Boy administrator.
This has a lot of weight. Thanks for sharing this. I don't entirely get what is happening to the poor Admin. Is this happening in the Cage, or some other fresh hell?
That is something that is uncertain, I’ve tried finding conclusive evidence but there’s nothing but theories. This could be a hellish result of Project Gestalt’s downfall, since the admin was living within the computer system in the Forest of Myth. But this could be a dystopia in the Cage.
@@TheBigDerian It's something that could be anything. This series is about as mysterious as any Souls game made by From Software. It would be both be awesome and dread inducing if From Software teamed up with Yoko Taro.
Inside Grimoire NieR Revised. I don’t remember the exact page in the book but there’s a section of character bios. I scanned the page put the picture as a thumbnail. When I return home tonight I’ll edit the post to say the exact page number.
I think you’re referring the the last song in the video, it’s Fleeting Words (Weiss Edition). It’s from the Replicant Ver.1.22 White Snow Edition CD. Sadly I can’t find an upload of it on CZcams, but you might be able to find it on other sites.

Yoko Taro hiding his lore like the goddamn easter bunny

Thanks! I have been interested in effects but never got around to fully commit to that, I appreciate your feedback!!
I really love that song.... great video as always man
Appreciate it!
I didn’t know that this epilogue existed. Thank you
You're welcome, glad to introduce it to people!

haha, thank yous!
Great video! I'll never be able to buy the book so this is really helpful
Will admit hearing that you read to children is both cute and funny

Thanks! Yeah it would have been nice to have more of him, but oh well, at least we were blessed to receive a translated Grimoire NieR

Funny enough, I randomly thought about this the other day. I’ll look into the possibly of this for sure.

Love the video! What version of Grandma is playing at 1:53? It sounds different. 😅
Thanks! It is indeed Grandma, I forgot to specify it’s the ver.1.22 version of Grandma, which is slightly different to the one in NieR (2010).
I wonder if this will tie into Reincarnation in any way?
It should, I swear I remember the circular steps that play music from Reincarnation being mentioned alongside the administrator somewhere.
I wouldn't be surprised if this were to be revealed at the end of Reincarnation's content.
