Thank you for sharing a way to make spheres that is actually affordable to us beginners.
Thanks, man! I’ve got a need for a partial sphere and the first part of you video is exactly what I need. ‘Course, now I’m feeling a need for a bowl full of spheres.....
Everyone needs a bowl full of spheres
A very well explained tutorial on sphere making. Excellent sphere.
Thanks
James
Just got a 12” lathe and would like to make spheres. Just getting started with my journey. Your video will help me get started. Thank you.
I don’t even own a lathe (though I’ve turned a few things on my father’s) but stumbled upon this video and found it very enjoyable and satisfying to watch. Great vid, Incredible skill!
Great lesson for beginners! Respect from Russia!
Thank you for the teaching.
Cool technique! Although I think the technique with which you have to make an adapter for the chuck and an adapter for the tailstock is much safer. Because you hold the piece between centres. I didn't have much luck with jam chucks in the past! I will definitely give it another chance at some point!
Solid video 👍
Thanks for sharing, amazing video!
Hi Mike
Thanks for this very pedagogic video. Great method.
Just an idea that came to me while watching: during the fine-tuning phase with the skew, one could color the "chanel" with a pencil; then one can see where there is still some material to remove, without needing to stop the lathe.
Greetings from France
Just watched for first time. Great job Tim. Beautiful Resin Vein Eucalyptus ball.
Excellent. I subscribed to your channel after watching this!
Complimenti, lavoro spettacolare.
super work
Very nice 👍
Nice video Mike! I’ve been shying away from spheres but this was a great how to instructional! Thanks for sharing!
Lotsa good information here. Thanks
You're welcome - good luck!
Great edition! Available, I see. I'm not gonna be able to do it anytime soon!)
Good Info
Boa noite, muito bacana!!!
It is hard to woodturn the symmetry sphere. Great and perfect skill.
Interesting
Great video and technique for turning a sphere. I learned some new stuff with this one. Turning the channel is brilliant. I think the jam chuck is really the way to go if you are looking for a really round sphere. Strange question a bit off topic....can you tell me what microphone you are using? I usually don't like to do a voiceover but yours was so well done. Camera work is also top notch. Sam Angelo
I have a 10 x18 lathe just barely started, do you have an easier way of making sphere
Great video, the channel cut is awesome.
Would it help if the channel was colored in with a pencil?
I’m thinking the freehand cutting needs a pattern made from flat sheet. Then use the pattern to check for high/low spots.
clever technique. SOme woods don't do well withthe skew-scraping method, I find, Be care fl with tearout.
Showw 👏👏Brasil
What machine would you recommend? I would like to find one but not sure which is or what brand. Thank you
I LOVE this tool and have been using it for about a month, BUT mine is tough to move with the Allen wrench. Is there something I could spray that might loosen it up so I can turn it easier?
What tool are you referencing?
Made scores of these even dyed and made interesting patterns in them, however, they don''t sell so keep that in mind unless you' have time on your hands and a nice pension.
What if you turn them into Christmas ornaments? Or would they be too heavy?
What is the purpose of the noise in the back?
The hardest part is getting both sides to look the same... same thing with pens... I ain’t no professional but I could use some practice...
Does Mike have his own Instagram?
Can you put your weed in there?
Sorry but this doesn't help me as a beginner get the shape as perfect as someone that has been turning longer can do. I was expecting a technique rather than seeing someone that is obviously good at turning a sphere with no difficulty doing just that. All your other videos have been so good for me but I'm afraid this one wasn't.
Check out Wyoming Woodturners video on turning a sphere
It takes a lot of practice, not the ideal project for a beginner.
The sphere does not need to be perfect to start with, the technique is self correcting if you take light cuts with the scraper. This is not difficult, and there is not an easier way in any case.
@@james5426 Thanks for the mention..... There are many ways to turn a sphere-all fun and all have different approaches. I learned some new stuff with this one. Turning the channel is brilliant. I think the jam chuck is really the way to go if you are looking for a really round sphere without using a "jig" omg!!! Thanks Sam
