One of my pet peeves - Seeing parents walking children around the Strip after 11pm! I can't tell you how many times I've seen children under 12 being walked around after midnight in and outside the casinos on the Strip! It's also obvious they (the kids) are tired as you see them complaining to the parents.

As a local my kids have been on the strip and downtown at midnight. But we are night owls and it's normal for them to be up late. I grew up here and it was normal for me to go and be out late doing stuff with my parents too. My husband also has fond memories of going to eat at late night food specials on the strip and downtown with his mom and step dad.

@@JennyfromDblockMy household is sex positive. A butt in a thong and boobs with pasties aren't shamed around my boys. But maybe you look at things different when you're born and raised in Vegas. I grew up going to shows where are the women barely wore anything. It's just the human body. Nothing to be ashamed of.

We went to a Denny’s at 3 am on the strip years ago and I saw a family with toddlers in strollers. Yes the kids were cranky. I was disgusted with those parents.

My husband and I love Vegas and have visited many times. We brought our teenage son to Vegas once a few yrs back. We went to hockey game, a cirque du Soleil show, and saw the sights on strip (fountains, volcano, etc) only time we gambled was when we stopped at Excalibur so he could go to arcade at same time. He loved all the cool cars he saw driving on the strip. He said he had fun but doesn’t want to come back until he can drink and gamble 😂.. he turned 21 this month and we are bringing him and a buddy back the week before Christmas to celebrate!

You nailed it Ruby! It does seem like the younger Vegas goers are more interested in partying than gambling. Back in the 80s we went to gamble and see big name entertainers or lavish production shows. It's definitely a different vibe now.

    • @RichardCChandler
      @RichardCChandler Před 7 měsíci +2

This is the main reason hotels and food is more expensive than it used to be. When I was a frequent visitor in the 80's, the vast majority of visitors were there to gamble. I would venture to guess that less than 50% of visitors these days actually gamble to any substantial degree, so they need to make money off of everything else. The days where they could take a loss on food and lodging in order to get you on property to gamble are long past.

My husband & I are Vegas regulars. We took our kids (9 y/o twins & 20 y/o) & spent Thanksgiving there last year. We took them to the Adventuredome, out to see Red Rock Canyon, The Seven Magic Mountains & enjoyed the sights of the strip. We stayed at Elara, so no casino. We had a great time! Loved sharing one of our favorite cities with them!

I bring my kids to vegas but I make sure we are doing kid friendly activities and staying at hotels that offer things to do with kids. I don’t keep them out late and I watch them like a hawk. I also don’t gamble with them there. It has to be a kid focused trip if you bring them. My opinion on it.

Great video Ruby. My wife and I got married in Vegas in 2001. We have gone at least once a year since then, with the exception of a couple, and have never taken our kids until last month. 14 and 16 both boys. It was one of my favorite Vegas trips. We did a lot of things that my wife and I would’ve passed on when we were just by ourselves. The Hoover dam, the Mob Museum , pinball Hall of Fame and omega mart. We stayed on Strip at Caesars Palace and had no problems. Vegas is fun by yourself or with your family. So much to do!!

It used to be only my husband and I for a very long time, for the past 3 years we have taken our son, now 15 with us and we have a lot of fun. We have done many of the activities you mentioned, plus the movies, Dave and Buster’s, the mall and other museums. It is a lot of fun. Definitely don’t take him for a stroll at 11:00 pm!!

  • @annaschmidt2

Hi Ruby! You hit the nail on the head regarding where to stay with kids. We took our 10-year olds and 12 year old to Las Vegas (it's my husband's home town!) and Mandalay Bay is a great hotel for that. It's got family suites, kid-friendly food nearby, and it's probably quieter than many of the other hotels. My kids loved Omega Mart and Cirque de Soleil. My kids get overwhelmed by loud noises, bright blinking lights, or crowds. So, avoiding the casinos and downtown Fremont Street is really smart advice - it's exactly what we chose to do.

I lived in Las Vegas for many years and a occasionally come back to visit. I've never, ever felt unsafe for one moment. Ruby's cautions about the more run-down areas of Downtown and off-strip are good, but she's right: you're way more likely to get scammed on the street than mugged.

Part of the reason for the "Vegas is for families" slogan was to increase *non gaming revenue* and get people to *pay higher prices* for things that used to be cheap or comped. Since you're bringing your family, *you can afford to pay more since you're not just here to gamble.*

  • @davidsigalow7349

The desert light is deceptive, and things are a lot farther away than they appear. A hotel may look like it's one block away when you start walking towards it. Thirty minutes later, you're still walking, and it still looks like it's only a block away.
This can be dangerous in the summer, as it's easy to get dehydrated.

  • @mrenaep

  • @Spartan87667
    @Spartan87667 Před 9 měsíci +34

I would say that if you’re not going to Vegas to actually spend time with your kids doing kid-friendly things, don’t bring them. Don’t drop them at the arcade and then go play tables or slots. The casinos are not babysitters. Leave them at home with one. I definitely agree on the hotel recommendations for families. Mandalay Bay has the shark reef aquarium alongside the huge pool complex. Definitely kid-friendly. Plus, you don’t have all the craziness of mid-strip at Mandalay Bay

  • @derekhudson3462

I know everything is more expensive these days, but Vegas is definitely pricey in the restaurant category. Yes, you can go to Denny’s, McDonald’s, or Subway in Vegas, but who wants to eat there on vacation? When you go to a run of the mill Italian restaurant at a Vegas resort and the chicken parm is $37, that is expensive any way you slice it.

I love your channel! My husband and I travel to Vegas from Tennessee at least 3 times a year. We do come for the gambling, but your channel has shown us so many other things to do during our stay. I always watch your channel, especially leading up to our visit. We will be there next month bringing in the New Year. Would love some suggestions for ringing in the New Year in Vegas. I would also like to chime in on bringing kids to Vegas. Our kids are grown, but I still wouldn’t recommend bringing children for all of the reasons you mentioned. If people do decide to bring their children, they might want to stay at family friendly resorts off strip. I’ve visited Red Rock and it has a movie theater, bowling alley, arcade and nice pool area. Off strip resorts like Red Rock just seem more appropriate for kids . Just my thoughts. Keep up the great work Ruby!

In canada we would book packages for flight and hotel. Was around 600 and now it is twice that. Then we have resort fees on top of that and 45 dollar resort fee is is over 60 dollars canadian. One of my all time favorite Vegas restaurants, Hugo's, currently charges $95 for a 10 oz. filet. INSANE! The best steakhouses here in NY charge nowhere near that kind of rate for a steak. Fine dining in Vegas seems overpriced to me at the moment.

Great as usual Ruby! We took our kids (14 & 10) for the first time on our 16th trip! In their words it was one of the best family trips we had been on! Instead of the our regular booze fueled gamble-fest, we took the time to rent a car and see the sites around the greater Vegas area. We also took in Area 15, and exposed them to outlet shopping and a 'hood Walmart. LOL Lots of fun to be had by families if you take to time to research it and want to make the effort! But yes, I can see why people don't bring them and why we didn't until they were older! Coming next week, and they are not joining us!! LOL It Adult Vegas time for us!! Thanks for you fantastic shows!!

The Discovery Children's Museum is amazing. He loved the Omega Mart at Area 15, the resorts themselves are filled with shopping, and food. The list goes on. We're going in February and staying at the Luxor so he can see the Titanic exhibit because he loves the Titanic. Just so many things! We love going.

Las Vegas is what you make it! I took my 5 year old and it was very enjoyable. That being said, we stayed at Palms Place off strip, went to restaurants with an early dinner reservation, did the high roller and Mystere (a more kid friendly cirque du soliel), we also came in by 9 pm latest. I don’t drink or gamble, it’s all about being responsible if you do bring your children. And I agree about Fremont not being for children. I’m not taking my mom there either lol.

Right on the strip near Circus Circus. Kids can safely, hang out in the apartment. Ruby, and Jacob have a video on great low budget food deals in las vegas. Lots of people watching, snacks, pools, and bus rides for families. Plan your day to include cool, quiet, naps.... Remember kids are no fun when their hot, tired, and exhausted. I love Vegas 😍.

As someone who has family who lives out in Las Vegas, we visit frequently and bring our daughter. When we go, we often get a rental car. We're not having her out walking the strip seeing the things that go on out there, we're not having her go on the casino floor and see what that's all about. We take her to the fun family places directed for children such as the Discovery Children's Museum, the circus, the arcades, or we find the things off strip for her to do to get her energy out so we can leave her with our family for a little bit so they can hang out with her and do the adult stuff. I know not everyone has that luxury, but there's a time and a place for everything, if you're going to bring your kids, maybe take turns hitting the floor.

I love Vegas too...we never go to shows....we'll go up to the air base,to the walmart, to off strip casinos, and eat relatively cheaply, usually have some comps....I guess its just that laid back vacation feel...no work, no laundry, no cooking, just whatever.

Hi ruby I'm from Australia I love Vegas but I don't drink or really gamble. My mum and I came here a few year ago we stayed at Trump hotel it's my favorite and only one ill stay at. One because it doesn't have a casino so less foot traffic, the rooms a beautiful standard room you get a mini kitchen with fridge stove microwave ect free bottles of water the bathroom is huge jetted tub separate shower and toilet.
I walk across the street to the fashion show mall which is about a 30 second walk to the ABC shop grab cereal, milk, sandwiches, fruit, drinks and snacks to save money. I pre booked shows the grand canyon back in Australia so it was all paid for before I got there, so all we had to do was pay for food, souvenirs ect out of our cash we had a limit a day of $120 and never spent that in fact I brought money home. We had one good meal out a day and that's were the sandwiches came in handy for dinner and I think a fridge is necessary for my hotel stay. My mum drunk a lot of coffee and tea hotel had a coffee machine and a kettle saved money. We may have put max $50 in the slots the whole trip won and bought a nice dinner with winnings. We were in Vegas for 7 days loved every minute. As I uselly come middle of October will have to change it due to formula one. Thanks ruby for this video I just want to tell people travelling from other countries you can do Vegas on a budget as us aussies did it.🇦🇺❤

I love Vegas and can't wait to go back. I hardly ever gamble. I find other find stuff to do. I love to go to shows, sight see and look in the cool hotels. I do a lot of things I think is fun and don't cost a lot. Just do all the safe things Ruby said and you'll be ok. Most casinos have a sign that says no children a lout.

Vegas is for adults. Even the latest advertising campaign is you can bring your kids to vegas, but why would you. To me it is as simple as value your kids vacation over being selfish. Their are great spots for kids and much more kid friendly locations. If you must go to vegas with kids stay off the strip and fremont. Be in control of kids, if you must bring them. People are going to have a good time. Don’t be pissed at people for doing and saying things your kids shouldn’t hear. You brought them to sin city, that is on you.

I can confirm that Las Vegas is a family-friendly destination. My family and I have visited Vegas each year since I was 10. As a kid we enjoyed the Mandalay Bay pool and aquarium, the excalibur arcade, the shows, the m&m and coke store.

I would like to see someone do a video on something in Vegas other than Gambling, shows, and the strip...for example does Vegas have a library, hospitals, parks, factories. and other interesting things like that. I know they are trying to make Vegas much more then just gambling...with Football, WNBA Basketball and soon Baseball which I like to see. But I like to see the normal side of life in Vegas for once.....

Once you get off The Strip, Vegas is just like any other city. Well, outside of all the slot machines everywhere.
We have everything any other city has.. schools, libraries, strip malls, movie theaters, hospitals, colleges, all the boring every day life items. My life now isn't much different than my life back in Michigan 18 years ago... it just has much less snow and the city buses are more reliable.
The normal side of Vegas is.. normal.

I worked in the ER in AZ. parents bring in their kids after midnight. Las Vegas is too expensive.$$$ I wish it would bring hotels cost down that will work for working parents and grandparents, Roller rinks, ice rinks, rock walls and play pools for small kids on the strip. Bowling alleys, so parents and grandparents have a good time with family. If the hotels cost less, we all could eat at some of the places you recommend to try. Have your hotel key card work for the rail transportation between casinos and go downtown all included with your hotel room price.

Making Vegas family friendly is a bit like making a trip to Disney World adults only.. plan ahead, find your spots for interesting things, stay open to possibilities, wear comfortable shoes, and take time for naps or breaks when they are needed.
I highly recommend The Pinball Hall of Fame and Area 15 for those traveling to Vegas with slightly older kids.

I love your videos, my husband and I were just down there. We stayed at the aria for the raider game. I used your tip about asking for comps at check out and it worked. I saw you walking the strip on Tuesday and I wanted to say hi, but I didn't want to bother you. And I wouldn't bring my kids, because of the smoking 💨 🍃. But we are definitely going again next year! ❤

Yes Vegas is to expensive from one spectrum to the other. You cannot deny that. I’m a little old school where they used to give us lots of things to come and gamble their everything they gave us to keep the gambler happy anymore they just take the service is terrible at all the casinos in less you were heavy tipper you will not get a cocktail waitress, coming back more than one time.

I am from the UK and only get back once every couple of years. We are not high rollers but use a loyalty card, charge to the room etc.
I am coming in February for 5 nights ,4 are comped , I am only paying $50 for 5 nights at NYNY, I also have $200 resort credit and $125 free play.
It can be expensive but if you are aware of what you can get , you can do it on a tight budget

Yes, Vegas has gotten expensive, we used to come mid week and get the MGM Grand for under $100 with resort fees and free parking. In the past 15 years, rooms have doubled, parking is $20 a night, rental cars have doubled and no I won’t play 6:5 Blackjack.
