  • In this video I will show you how to check your throttle position sensor (TPS) on a 2007 Yamaha FZ6. A bad throttle position sensor can lead to a bad idle, poor transient throttle response or the feeling of dead zone in the throttle. Let me know if have any questions or issues with your own bike in a comment down below. Please hit the like button if this video helped you.

    After you sweep the throttle to check for any dead spots with the multimeter you can also go into the diagnostic mode to double check if your TPS sensor is working properly. Or if you need to adjust its position to get its values in the correct range. In the diagnostic menu you should see 16 at closed throttle and 100 at maximum throttle. If those numbers aren't correct you need to loosen the clamps on the throttle body boots and lift the whole throttle body assembly up a little bit to get to the 2 T25 security Torx screws that hold the TPS sensor in place. With the TPS sensor loose you can rotate it a few degrees forward or backwards to get the numbers in the correct range.

      Hi man! I have a question: if I have a problem with numbers: 18 while closed and 89 while open. Do you know how can I solve it? Because by moving TPS I will change both of the numbers. Will a new TPS solve it? Thanks

      @@igoraleshin9275 That sounds like you'll need a new TPS. The value at wide open seems too low.

    A little food for thought for people who think they have TPS issues… I had my TPS replaced and my 05 Fz6 was still stalling randomly. Turned out to be the connections inside my kill switch. I bypassed the kill switch and bike runs flawlessly.. wish I checked that before doing unneeded work. Just an FYI

    Hello, I have adjusted the TPS sensor ... it was at 15. I put it at 18 ... being I have a k & n sports filter and a leovince sports drum without catalyst ... it goes smoother. coboaranin in laps smoother .. no longer snatches when I accelerate ... so much so that between 15-17 must be from the car book

    Hi mate, I have a 2009 FZ6 S2 ABS. When I test my TPS it’s showing 2.4 ohms so I bought a new one and that’s showing 2.5 ohms. Any advice? I’ve tried it on two different multimeters

    But If you have any trouble with the TPS (bike stalling, rpm low 800, etc) and your fz6 is an 04-05, Yamaha has a recall for this. Did mine last month (its an 05).

    For the first & last prong my TPS reads 5.5, and middle & last it reads .76
    The throttle roll works fine, but my idle has spiking around 3,000 RPM lately, and i havent found any air leaks.
    So could the TPS be at fault?

    My bike sputters when I try to accelerate at low RPMS, but then when I put more power into the throttle the sputter goes away and dash restarts n comes back on. Could this be related to a TPS issue?

      That really sounds like a loose power or ground wire to me since you say the whole bike shuts off.

    Can you help me, I have a Yamaha 600 fzs1998 and the cylinder number 4 does not burn, although I cleaned the carburetor and checked the electricity, the spark plug changed, but the cylinder number 4 still does not work??!

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 3 lety

      Is it possible the float is set incorrectly in that carb or possibly stuck? Have you checked compression on that cylinder or all cylinders? Or maybe there is gunk blocking the gas from getting into the carb along the rail between carbs... Sometimes carbs need a second cleaning or time in an ultra sonic bath to break loose stubborn gunk. Best of luck!

  • @emmettturner9452

    FWIW, your probes’ polarity shouldn’t matter when measuring resistance.
