- Should you work in tech? Today I talk about the pros and cons working in tech as a new grad. I work in a non coding position doing marketing in tech as a product marketing manager. Obviously this video is bias as this is my first and only real real job, (besides interviews for other industries).
I hope this encourages more people to explore options in tech at all different sizes. You dont need to know code to be in tech! I'll be going over all the non technical roles in tech next.

let me know below what types of career/tech questions you have -- I am no means a master/expert but I'm just trying to share my experience getting here. have a great holiday season everyone!
I’m curious on what roles can break into PMM if you were unable to do so from undergrad
Do you think people in tech get overpaid compared to other career fields
What companies do you work for that have these great cultures? Can anyone apply remotely?
Angelica, Thanks for the content. Keep it up!
Thank u for sharing! ❤️
Thanks for sharing, Angelica! Love how you’re always honest and open. 😊 I just started in Google Singapore three months ago and I’m tooootally feeling the imposter syndrome / not believing that I’m good enough to be here / etc etc. Hoping to scrap this feeling off ASAP!!! 😆
p.s. sent you a hot potato!! 🥔
ooh I loved this video, I work in tech so I was mainly curious what others like/dislike! agreed on free food is freaking free food, and so interesting hearing about the pros/cons from a product marketing perspective 👏👏
literally feel like i am taking a 180 each time i make a decision for my future. your video definitely helped me feel more aware and confident in my decision to potentially enter the tech industry, thank u
100% to 180 all the time! we are still figuring it out and I'm just here to offer my POV and more potential ideas~ ofc
this is so helpful thank you!
of course!
4-6 years is at the higher end for tech in my experience. I try to look every 2 years. Not necessarily to take the position, but just to see what my ongoing market rate is, and keep my interview skill sharp.
Thanks for sharing your perspective, Angelica! I know you mentioned that your workplace hangs out together, which sounds so nice. I was curious if lifestyle creep is a concern in that environment? Financially hanging out with coworkers can add up, but I wonder if it doesn't become as much of an issue with that tech salary!
It's not a daily thing! I Even eating lunch together (which is provided) is a great way to "socialize" and talk no work. I would say it's just as often or less as hanging out with your non-working friends. I also like to take advantage of company hosted events/happy hours therefore there is no financial pressure because it's paid for as an official bonding/social event.
Super helpful as always :)) I want to get into ux design with my archi degree in the future
you totally can!
so helpful
Would it be a bit of disadvantage in career growth working in tech in LA vs. Silicon Valley?
I'm a final year Mathematics UK student and I've been struggling to find what I want to do with my career. This video has honestly turned on a lightbulb, I'm very excited to try and land a career in Tech. Thank you!
Just a couple of questions. What roles/companies should I begin looking into it? Coding experience is very minimal
maybe you could look into data analytics! :)
hi angelica! I know any major can go into product management in tech, but what major in college would help the most and provide the most benefit to break into tech without coding?
Also wondering!
I’m not an expert, but probably a business major. Since, most non-coding positions in tech are business related (ex. product marketing manager). Also, Angelica majored in business.
@@gloriamarcellee completely agree. If it’s not STEM, it’s business people that go into tech.
You're awesome
you are literally my inspiration! 💓 Is there an email that I can reach out to ask questions?
feel free to drop comments or DM on IG and I will try to get to them
This is a really comprehensive video, but doesn’t really dig into the personal *why* like the premed video did. The intro implies a huge shotgun approach across many different fields (consulting, health tech, marketing), but why big tech? Was this really a pure career maximization decision like the pro/con list suggests? It feels like the primary motivators are missing from this story.
🙌🙌
thank you!
also you never listed the perks could you include that please
Can you have any of your sales friends come on to talk about their roles at Google and pros and cons
Did you negotiate for a higher salary in 2022 or was that a raise for all APMMS?
I believe it was for all APMMs to meet market rate -- I did not neg.
do they only hire 20s people
Do you feel like it requires a lot to keep up your technical knowlegde?
Do you edit with iMovie?
final cut
I'm making 6 figures I started a few months ago. The bosses are lunatics, very egotistical and big hypocrites. They'll teach you a lesson on something then you get in bad habits of what they show you and when you have to do the task some time later. You get in trouble. Very toxic in some startups, be careful guys
The only people that make money in tech is people that come from prestigious schools or have connections to make 300k-400k a year.
Not true!
It’s not true but if u do go to a good school u are guaranteed a good salary. If u go to a meh school u just have to put in hard work
Lmao complaining about it being male is ironic when they literally hire women preferentially
