Somebody done broke the internet again. Black twitter is having a fit! A college graduation photo of a young man who is allegedly a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, wearing a pink women's pants suit and high heels, has people talking. It goes without saying the majority of the people out there are not in support of this. Seeing as though I am a member of A Phi A, and as a part of my work, bends the lines of gender regularly, I thought it was only fitting that I weighed in. Here are my thoughts...

It’s the salmon pink suit for me... he really wanted to be an AKA 😂😂😂
Done 😭😭😭😭😭😭
My first thoughts
Lmao! Yes & he had to settle for Alpha Phi Alpha. 😹😹😹😹😹😹😹 “This’ll do!” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
And THIS is why we can't play both-sides with this conversation. Pretending that both sides need to grow gives space for folks to gleefully attack this young man. Women didn't invent pink. Pink didn't even become considered a feminine color until the 1940s. A bunch of heteros laughing at a gay man trying to be comfortable in his skin is a LOSS for the community. I was going to say "When did we become so callous?" But folks have always thought laughing at feminine boys was fair game. I just hope the brotha makes it through this all right, given how many in his community are happy to demean him at every turn.
@@ChocPrynce BOI HUSH! This was a joke for the Sorors. The official colors of AKA is salmon pink and apple green. YOU totally didn’t get it and got your feelings hurt 😂🤣😂🤣🤣

"You are not your heels." If he had dressed like this without having his organization's letters on, it wouldn't have been a problem. He chose to put his letters on, it's a problem. right! guarantee you he was deceptive to get in to even reach this moment.
Totally agree. He didn't go to the interest meeting with them on.

This conversation was as real as it gets. As a gay man myself I would have to agree. Let’s all remember at the end of the day right is right and wrong is wrong. I understand what he was trying to do but this wasn’t a good look at all. I’m saddened
The sad part is he will think they dead wrong if they start icing him out of grad chapter. He will use the excuse they icing me out because I am gay. And trying to get the CANCEL CULTURE STARTED. Even though he brought this on himself .
I am not understanding what he did wrong, can someone explain it to me. It wasn't like he was at a frat event right??? He graduated and tool the pictures on his own time. IDK, there are so many gay ppl in fraternities but if I'm gonna be ostracized and criticized as much as this man then I wouldn't want to even be a part of it.
@@WenNRome You don’t get to define and/or do with the letters as you please when you are in an organization. There is protocol and decorum that needs to be adhered to. Wearing his frat letters in Heels is against protocol. The same for any brother that wants to put fraternity letters on a purse. You, by yourself, don’t get to redefine what the fraternity symbolizes for others and has meant to others for years.
@@WenNRome It is wrong because it does not symbolize the organization. It was an organization set up heterosexual men. If he chose to wear female attire don’t join this organization. He should join another. Everything is not going to be acceptable to an female gay male, it is just not a fit.

I agree with you when you said “ you just can’t go everywhere doing any and everything that you want”.
Thank YOU!!! I had this conversation with a non-Greek and they didn’t get it. There are things that you simply CAN NOT do while wearing your letters. It doesn’t mean that you can’t live your life. My boyfriend is an old skool Que, an Omega Man as I call them when they mature. We JUST had this conversation about men in frats in heels and feminine wear. I recall a lawsuit against AKA as they wouldn’t let a man join.
I love people living in their truth, but what do the Founding Fathers think of this? I disagree with this in Fraternities including men in heels at Morehouse. (Morehouse is my brother school so I have an attachment to the Institution). Along with men attempting to join Sororities.
Why not start their own Fraternity? There is enough gender bender a now where that could be accomplished. That’s MY opinion. That’s all.

I agree. I’m not the most understanding old head when it comes to this topic. I just don’t understand why protocol is not being taught when it is the key to survival. It is good to learn all that other stuff, but you need to know how to move in your organization.
Respecting the homophobic legacy of your organization is not at all important. And I find it disingenuous the way you so matter-of-factly assumed that his only goal was self-aggrandizement.

This was well said! As a member of D9, people have to understand that wearing your letters carries a huge responsibility. Your actions while wearing the letters often reflect on the whole organization and that is made very clear when you pledge. You can do and be whoever you want when you are not wearing letters, but your individuality comes second to upholding the standards of the organization when you are wearing letters. That’s how it goes, and if you don’t want to do that, don’t join.
I am also of the Divine Nine. I don’t think the younger generation understands the responsibility and rules of engagement. I’ve seen proper (crests ) paraphernalia worn in “loose” social settings. Young girls using “calls” with legacy Sorors etc. There is a rhyme and reason for the incorporation of our organizations. As a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, I can honestly say I was disgusted at how many “brothers” were bashing him. I saw his pictures before the masses caught hold of them and didn’t see anything wrong with it. I personally loved the ascot and grill/golds he had. Too many people forget what fraternal brotherhood is actually about, and start to thinking they’re high & mightier than the other, but failed to realize the dude is heels has done more his chapter than they have done for their own. Too much focus was going into his outfit, rather than congratulating a frat brother, a BLACK man, on getting his JD. This was truly a sad day in Alpha.. not bc of the graduate but bc of the exposed ignorance in the frat.
Much love, Q 🤙🏾

I think he did it for the shock value. It's like he got his letters and said "now let me show you who I really am"! I think the more impactful thing would've been to organize with his fellow lgbtq+ brothers within the org and strategize on how to address the concerns of lgbtq+ members.
I see both sides. Being apart of the organization in part is surrendering some of your individuality. It seems he was trading off of the organization in order to assert his individuality and that’s not really in service to what it means to be an Alpha man. It’s not about self; it is about service.
Undeniable Excellence, Period!
👠💚💕 Much respect Funky Dineva
I feel that all people are free to dress as they please...... but he knew that he couldn’t pull this off in a frat event!!
He can and has.
He can dress how he pleases, but not when representing the fraternal organization. Once you're representing your organization at an event or wearing letters, it's a whole different ballgame. For ladies too - we are not to be seen smoking, drinking, or doing anything crazy in public in our letters; and back when I pledged - you better NOT be seen strutting at the party to a ratchet or degrading song. If I know I might have a drink when I meet up with friends, I will make sure I'm not wearing anything that represents my organization. That's out of respect.
