  • Rascals (1995): We look at the cultural roots of crime in PNG, where gangs stop cars in their tracks and quarrels have traditionally been settled in a vociferous, hands-on way.
    Subscribe to Journeyman here: www.youtube.com...
Synopsis: 'Drive fast, never stop and get someone else to open your gates.' This is the reality for many living in Papau New Guinea, a country troubled by gang violence. One land owner has to have three layers of security to feel safe, and theft and murder are not uncommon. ABC Australia follows the gangs themselves, capturing a live hold up on film and interviewing a former 'Rascal', as the gang is known.

Vid from 90's. Unfortunately pretty much same today. Had the best childhood/teenage yrs growing up in PNG during 60's & 70's. Fishing, diving, bush walking, looking for war relics, hanging out with my PNG buddies. Miss those times. Visit PNG every 5 years. Cheers from Brisbane.👍🏻

Dead Island lead me here. Moresby, a true outlaw city. I love this game even more now after seeing this if that makes sense. Tough place to grow up and live in... shit, tough don't even cut it anyway near. Jebus... you shouldn't even stop your car to step out to open your gate, better to have someone open it for you to minimise risk. That is crazy. I grew up in the Philippines in the poor bario's among other street kids and that was no sunshine eather, this struck something sad in me. Misery in the tropical paradise.

I suppose this is what happens when you have a country where most people loved in a undeveloped way until very recently and now like every other country like this the young people want a ultra modern life which isn't possible immediately for everyone to get a I phone and new brick home ect but the biggest problem seems to be that the leaders from top to bottom are extremely corrupt which along with huge tribalism even in the capital leads to the state of modern png!!! The real issue is if they don't start working together immediately other countries will move in to take advantage even more than now but the leadership just keep taking bribes for the natural resources and the situation just gets worse and worse!!

I learned that the Gebusi had the highest murder rate in the world. Then they had the lowest rate of murder rate in the world . They used to believe in witchcraft being used for everyone who died by Bruce Knaught. He was an anthropology who lived with the Gebusi. I believe the missionaries changed them. They had their own culture.

Sub-Saharan Africans are not the only native dark-skinned people of the world. There are Australian and Tasmanian Aborigines (who are now extinct), Melanesians who inhabit New Guinea and all the archipelagos from the Solomon Islands to the French Territory of New Caledonia the Tamils of Sri Lanka, and the Santinelese and Andaman Islands of India. Believe it or not, there are "black" people in this world who are not native to the African continent.
