The violations in the cease-fire between Papua New Guinea's Government forces and the Bougainville Revolutionary Army are many. The BRA's struggle for independence claimed the lives of over 3,000 people, but they remain determined to fight on. Using a mix of weapons, some of which date back to the WWII Japanese occupation, the BRA continue to hold out against PNG's superior forces. Meanwhile, the Bougainville people, whose villages face indiscriminate destruction, are under a PNG blockade which has cut off food and medicine supplies.

Bougainville does not deserve to get independence from PNG. The rebels lead by Francis Ona never fought for political reasons-He fought for environmental damages by Panguna mine and he was also terminated by the mine for disciplinary reasons. Many civilians from Bougainville died and Francis Ona and his Clan must take responsibility. Getting political independence for Bougainville was used as a scapegoat to escape being responsible for the innocent lives lost on the island.

glannyskatut8176, who caused this hardship for Bougainville? Is it PNG or Francis Ona and the BRA rebels? Once we know the cause of the problem, then Bougainville can ask for justice from those responsible for their hardships!

Was there between 1995 to 1996. Helped cripple the communication system to the mines and the mainland. The poor locals were ripped blind by the Corporations, the Papaun and Australian Government. Australia provided special forces and unmarked helicopters then a Mercenary army whose head man was arrested and imprisoned for his actions.
Respect to all and to Francis Ona.

The Bougainville Revolutionary Army was a defence Militia. Not a real revolutionary army. They only wanted to resist the army and fight for freedom (they were also branded "freedom fighters") so when Sir Julius Chan realised that Papua New Guinea was really losing the war, he signed a military support contract with Sandline ( a London based Private Military Contractor) to aid the PNG Defence Force against Bougainville. You see how desperate PNG was to remain in control of Bougainville?
The only reason why the ADF and AFP ever assisted was for corrupt corporate interests in The gold found in Panguna.

@Master Of Fatality everyone on Bougainville are preparing for Referendum this coming November. Around 95% of the population is in favour of independence but Only few who grew up or married in other parts of PNG or abroad, will make their choice. Independence is the only way for Bougainville to move forward , if we fail to vote then our struggle is useless.

@Master Of Fatality people of Solomon islands are fully support the independent movement on Bougainville, we already have strong relationship in trade through business activities & exchange goods across the border but it's still illegal to cross said by the new prime minister of the Solomons because we still part of PNG , But PNG is not ruling us anymore , there is no PNG policing or military on the island,we have our own police service & supports by the new Zealand government. We also now exporting our cash crops to the international market especially cocoa, copra and vanilla .

@Master Of Fatality as a b'villean I can say, it's much better for b'ville to go back to the Solomon family. The former prime minister of S.I only said ,we are welcome to go back to the S.I but our leaders didn't agree bcz Bville's population is growing very rapidly and estimated 350,000 in the year 2017 which is more bigger than many other Pacific island countries.but it's up to our future leaders.
