    Very good no-nonsense clear info on how basically with all the different steps a Magic game actually works. It's been ages that I picked up my cards, so it's a breath a fresh air to see a clear vid like this on how-to-play. :)

    Awesome video. Its one thing to be told how to play but you make the untap and tap make sense. It was great to see a mock game. I got a starter deck for me and my friend to learn and play one another. I dont think competitive is for us. But for fun among us sounds great.

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 3 lety +1

      Heck yeah! Enjoy the game! Eventually you'll want to maybe play some Commander, where you choose a single legendary creature as your army leader and face off against each other. It's a more casual format and can be played by more than 2 players (4 is ideal).
      Another suggestion is to try MTG Arena. 100% free and lots of fun to play!

      @@brianfediuk I have a two starter commander decks from the shop. They said Id like commander as its easy to build having only one card of each type besides basic lands. So me and my buddy are trying them out. But the regular 60 card decks come sometime early november. We cant wait. Since we plan on playing in house we are ignoring the sets/standard deck use rules. I think thats what its called.

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah make it a super casual game first. Any card is allowed. This is called "kitchen table magic"

      @@brianfediuk oh yeah we have been playing tons of casual. I went to a card game store near my house and got even more decks and even ventured out to boost one of the command decks and half make it new. I like the Landfall and Populate decks the most.

    This is a very helpful video. My son and I have gotten into Pokemon recently having built lots of meta decks and we also play theme decks. I never really considered MTG but it just looks so fun and different from Pokemon. I ordered an Arena Starter kit and 2 Planeswalker decks to start with. Wish me luck in teaching my son as he is young but he picked up Pokemon quick. More MTG videos please!

    I have a questions. When you cast a creature on your main phase it cant attack, but if opponent attacks you on their next turn can you defend with that creature? And how exactly does taping creatures work?

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 2 lety +5

      Yes, a creature can block at any point. Not being able to attack is called "summoning sickness". It means the creature cannot attack or use tap abilities.
      You do not tap a creature to block. You simply block with it if you want to, and are able. A tapped creature cannot be declared as a blocker.
      Tapping creatures works by turning it sideways to show it has been "used". A popular older card called Prodigal Sorcerer is a good example of a creature with a tap ability. You cannot attack AND tap it to use abilities. You must choose which you want to do.

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 9 měsíci

      Your first few decks should be 1 or 2 colors to get a feel of the game. Anything more than 3 requires some advanced piloting and deck building.

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 5 měsíci

      Each creature and each player means everything: Your creatures take 3 damage. Your opponent's creatures take 3 damage. You take 3 damage. Your opponent takes 3 damage.

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 2 lety

      There is not a problem. The 5 colors are optional. Most people make a deck that only includes 1 or 2 colors. With more colors, it becomes difficult to build a deck that reliably gives you access to more colors.

    Why wait to put a creature down in the 2nd main phase?

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 6 lety +3

      Gives your opponent less information before you attack to deal damage. If you have a 2/2 and attack, your opponent might use a kill spell to get rid of it as an attacker. But then after they waste the kill spell you drop a 4/3 that can do more damage. Had you dropped the 4/3 before attacking, they might let the 2/2 live and save the kill spell for the 4/3.

    • @smithwilliams8831
      @smithwilliams8831 Před 6 lety +1

    How con you lose life

    • @brianfediuk
      @brianfediuk  Před 6 lety

      There are several ways to lose life. First, all damage causes that much life to be lost, so if a sorcery says it does 2 damage to a player, that player would lose 2 life from the damage. Secondly, damage from unblocked attacking creatures causes loss of life. Third, some cards literally can make a player lose life. This is very similar to damage, but there are some weird scenarios where loss of life could kill a player where damage wouldn't, such as a card that "prevents all damage that would be dealt this turn". Under that scenario, loss of life still causes a player's life total to decrease.
