    Thank you Suj. This jig was my first purchase from Banggood. It is very well made and easy to use. Alas, not having used it for over a year, I had forgotten how. Happily, I stumbled upon your excellent tutorial, and I'm now back in the game.

    You can use the tool directly on the blade with a straight edge on the other side to get an actual kerf width.

    I bought one of these on Temu and it broke before I even got a chance to use it. I was impressed by how well made it seemed at first, but then the tightening wheel stripped off of the screw making it useless. Maybe I just got a bad one.

  • @briansbuildsandoutdoors4936

    I just picked one these up from Banggood. As you say, they are extremely well made. I'm making a hand plane till at the moment and I will be using the jig on a couple of dados. Good job mate, keep up the good work. All the best.

      Cheers, Brian 👍😁. Hopefully it will come out well. If possible, start on test scrap first of the same thickness, as there is a little bit of learning curve on using it initially

      @@SujMenon I took your advice and made a few test cuts and made a few errors in the tool set up. Truth be known I think I kept repeating the same mistake ( I hate doing that). When it came to the piece though, all dados were bang on. Thanks again. All the best.

    Hello Suj , you margin of error is because you used the calipers to measure the thickness of the blade . The blade doesn't run true on the harbor. the best way is to cut a scrap piece of wood and then cut a 45 then press the kerfmaker to get the all round thickness of the blade. that will work like charm.otherwise, nice video

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  Před 2 lety

      Excellent tip Achika. I thought the same that the blade wasn't true parallel to its arbour as well. Or the actual blade selected for measurement was slightly off (due to wear/tear) resulting in that small difference. Otherwise there isn't any other explanation to that issue.

    The tool is ok but not in combination with bad saws with woble blades - there you get the slot to big/wide...

  • @HewAndAwe
    @HewAndAwe Před 3 lety

    Ive never used one of these things, you used the calipers to take the reading from the kerf - could you not just take the jig to the blades kerf and set it up and not use the calipers?

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  Před 3 lety +1

      yes Ben, I actually tried that initially by taking the jig to the blade kerf. It's ok for one side were there is a positive stop, but the other side is open and there is room for error there (even though it's very minimal). From my experience with this jig, even taking the measurement on one side of the blade isn't enough for a used blade (might not be a problem for a new blade), as it might have hit/dinged on something and could be a little bit out.

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe Před 3 lety

      @@SujMenon interesting, what about a ruler butted up to the jig kinda like a positive stop? I’m only asking cause I can see the advantage but that one point feels like it’ll be an issue - not knocking you don’t get me wrong 😬

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  Před 3 lety +2

  • @radiofriendlybox
    @radiofriendlybox Před 3 lety +1

    using the calipers sort of defeats the purpose of this tool doesn't it? just butt the kerfmaker against the blade backed by a piece of wood. it will automatically find the kerf of the blade.
