The fact that people confuse Slovakia with Russia and other eastern countries is not only happening to them, it is also happening to us Czechs. How many times it happened to me that people thought I was from Czechoslovakia, Poland, Ukraine or Russia.

The thing is... He is talking about USA in this video and we all know how geographically uneducated are people in the US.. :D And yeah most of the world thinks we are Slovenia, Czechoslovakia or some other slavic country. When we say Slovakia, people think they misheard what we said and just assume a country thats the most similar to ours. :D
You are calling someone geographically uneducated for not knowing where Czechia or Slovakia is? Well, do you know where exactly is North Dakota? Or, to stay in Europe, where is the Bashkortostan Republic? :)
@@reticentguy2943 Well, I dont know exactly, but I can tell you almost all of the US states or American countries. And most of all, I dont mix CONTINENTS with COUNTRIES and CITIES. I have American family and friends and some of them told me, that education around geography in the US sucks. And Of course i know where Bashkortostan is. They taught me the states of Russia. :D But I know em in my language, not in eng.
@Sofia, my bad. I should have expressed myself better. I wasn't referring to you personally - it was more of a rhetorical question trying to pinpoint that most of the people claiming that Americans suck at geography would place South Dakota next to Texas and "Baškírsko" next to Mongolia at best. (I hope I guessed your country right, neighbour.) :-)
I had the opportunity to compare Geography (preparatory high school) in both the CZ & the US and did not notice any significant differences in the curriculum (it was different, I cannot say whether it was better or worse). But I just might have been lucky enough to have a good teacher.

Honestly its sadly true, I traveleld a LOT, but in most countries I was either - Czechoslovakia, Russia or "oh...mhm Slovakia?...yeah..mhm so in like...Asia? ". Ofc we fully get we are a small country that very few people know, but its just gets tiring sometimes ...So I usually just say - Central Europe - and thats that XD

I mean, the USA teaching program doesnt rly teach you that much about the other geo positions of EU countries, you might know Russia, England and some other countries, that were active in WW2, but from what I know, it is more important to name every US president and their favorite breakfast than the rough layout of EU countries. I might be wrong, this is just something that I heard from my american friends.
