- One week in to 2024 and I suddenly realised that I'd rather like to sew something in January! Plus after setting my make nine challenge I wanted to break down the challenge into smaller goals as part of my January plans. So here we go! This vlog is all about what I've got on my sewing table, the new patterns I've acquired in the new years sale, the new fabrics I've bought, and what my plans are this month.

You can do wedding dress for sure.
I did Alice communion dress 2 years ago (using my wedding dress)
We did overlay on a skirt from 3 tiers of organza (each tier was 2 layers of 1 and 3/4 skirt finished with lettuce hem)
My advice is - if you think you will need 3 m, get at least 4.
Invest in great quality hand sewing needles and silk thread for handstiching stuff.
Plus, give yourself more time than you think you need.

No need for negative comments, why can’t people be nice, or just say nothing if they can’t be kind? I haven’t bought any ready made garments for over a year. I live in me mades and love them. My wardrobe is heaving so I’m making for friends and family. Definitely a great feeling knowing things fit and they are unique ❤

Why are people so horrible?! I love that you and others vlog and are willing to put yourselves out there. There are things I love in vlogs, that I guess others might find annoying, but why would anyone feel the need to comment or write a list!! So please keep doing what you are doing, rant over!

Great plans jess, sound is definitely clearer but very slightly out of sync with the video? Assume due to being a separate sound source but worth it for the sound quality! X

The couture book is really good, I liked a lot of the hand sewing parts and of course the pictures and descriptions of the couture garments.
I have an empire waist dress from the floaral viscose, it's such a nice fabric, hope you love your skirt from it!
I’ve been wondering about couture sources that result in less bulky seams. Have you seen techniques on more precise neckbands and cuffs and lining up seams on front and back of neck edge?
It is such a useful resource already! I feel like I need to sit with a cup of tea and properly study it 😅 ooh that must be gorgeous! I'm so excited to make a skirt from it, it's going to be so pretty I just hope I have enough fabric!
There is a lot in the book about reducing bulk, clean seam finishes, etc - would definitely recommend!
It made me laugh when you said you were slightly terrified about sewing your wedding dress…that would be an understatement for me. I watched a young woman do an in depth analysis of how she sewed samples and sourced fabrics for her wedding gown. It was really well done and interesting as to what goes into the sewing. I’ll look up her name after vlog. It’s Sarah Naomi.

Sewing a tie will be a breeze compared to everything else, just be mindful of the fabric choice. I made one for my husband in velvet to match a dress of mine for a wedding we went to and it was wayyyy too thick so he couldn't wear it 😭
