I've been a Redskin fan all my life. In 1982 I was so excited to see my team in the super bowl. I was standing nervous as hell on that play. Riggins made it look routine. HTTR! People always talk about Riggins power and rightfully so but for a big man he had speed. Crank up that Diesel!
that play gives me goosebumps. when I was young i was so big for my age, so I played on the O line. I got to block for the running backs and clear gaps for them. Then I stopped growing and played running back, running behind the lineman making gaps for me. This Redskins team was the BEST of both!
@@SeanF032484 loved then both but Gibbs was superior..higher playoff winning percentage and won 3 super bowls with 3 different QBs and went to the playoffs with 6 different QBs. Both NFL records and not one of them was a hall of famer

@@SeanF032484 Landry isn't anywhere near being as good as Joe Gibbs. Coaching greatness really comes out in the playoffs and Landry had a paltry .556 winning percentage.
Joe Gibbs the best coach in the NFL to take/win 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QBs, it's Gibbs system that won those...Joe had to change his offense 3 times to win 3 Super Bowls.
Otis Wonsley deserved a lot of credit for that block. Having to hurdle a guy just to make a block is a great play in itself, but Wonsley annihilated the Miami LB.
Yep, and Wonsley wasn't a big blocking back either, just under 200 lbs. The guy he knocked back with that desperation lunge outweighed him by at least 20 lbs.
They developed a winning culture throughout the 80's and early 90's. They were a great come from behind and super octane offense explosive team. The guys we have now are good but they play for a paycheck and can't seem to develop that former glory

@@spencerbrown6915 None of the teams today play football the way the Reskins did against Dallas and Miami. If Riggins was playing today, he would run it some, block some and go out for passes. He would even share time with another back doing the same thing. It's all about quarterbacks and receivers. Colleges have gotten to be the same way too. I don't think I will ever see a running back win the Heisman or be MVP in the Super Bowl like Riggins was. So boring to watch one dimensional football. Wonsley absolutely folded that linebacker. That is my favorite part of that play other than Riggins shedding McNeal. Damn, Wonsley absolutely destroyed that guy.
Even if Don McNeal didn't slip, there's no way he could have kept John Riggins from making, at the very least, a first down. Maybe he could have prevented a touchdown, but it would have take another man or two or three to take John Riggins down before going into the end zone
I read a comment about a meeting with Coach Gibbs and Riggins . If McNeal goes for the ankles he may have been credited with a tackle but riggo would have still made the 1st down. Why would he go high on a man of that girth. Don looked like he ran into a moving brick wall
Riggins was a big man and hard to tackle, that guy needed all of the dolphins are you kidding me,riggo would have pie face him and kept going like he did for the win!

No it didn't go well, SMH. They were a better team than the '82 Super Bowl team too. The Redskins came out just flat, and bombed. If they and the Raiders played 10 times, I'll bet the Skins would've won 7 out of 10.
Rest In Peace Joe Bugel. Forever a Redskin.

That team had a WHOLE lot a characters on it! It was great to watch them that season in high school.
By far. That team is underrated and needs to take it's place as one of the greatest.
As a Cowboys fan I'd have to say Joe Gibbs is the greatest NFL coach of all time.

Right up there with Walsh and Parcels during the 80s.
