- Today I Finally cleared the check engine light on the F-150 with my new OBDII scanner.
*UPDATE* The scanner I used has been discontinued through Hyper Tough, here's a link to it under another brand name www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiScan...

For anyone wondering, yes I did pass inspection, and starting January 1st 2020 Washington will no longer require emissions testing.
Mighty Machines Washington state??

Mighty Machines thanks man I’m just like wow u never get to old to learn something 👍🏽
Mighty Machines did you do this right before you went to get it inspected and how long did you check engine light stay off for
@@alexischester3239 I actually waited several months after I turned the light off before I got it inspected to see if it would come back on, but it never did and it is still off to this day.
I changed Fuel go to Shell and get my Gas Only, took #8 plug out switched it to a Iridium Plug No more problems. 04/27/2019. I have 97 Dodge 2500, 5.9. 4X4. Great Truck.
I bought a performance tool brand obd2 scanner $40. It works almost completely the same as your scanner. The only difference is how the codes are displayed. Yours tells you what the code means. Mine has a book of codes.
#8 Plug is Located Passenger side of the truck, to the back of the engine by the fire wall, very easy to get to. Take Care.
I just watched like 20 videos and they all didn’t do what you just did. THANK YOU!
You're welcome! Glad I could help!
Same at last good clear instructions
Thanks I just got one and this was helpful. 👍
Nice vid. I bought mine for $9 afters discounts and all. Already paid for itself in a few days' time.
Simple and straight forward how to vid! Worked for me!
Thanks man! Glad it helped!
Great vid, thanks 😊
Is a good little obd for 40 bucks...I use it all the time....but I use the bog boy obd for deeper reading on the vehicle
Thanks bro. Very helpful
No problem man, glad I could help!
I clicked on this by accident and I get the same codes!? The exact same two... This tells me I need a better scanner lol
I'm honestly quite surprised that my scanner was able to clear the codes for good, I cleared them over a year ago and they never came back, hope this helps!
I just got mine today.i was looking at the manual with all the codes this little dude has alot.seen great vids about this.
Overall it's a great tool to have!
I own one. To just check codes you don't need to start the vehicle. In fact it says to turn it on, not start it.
Does the maxiscan ms-310 work on a 97 ford exspidition 5.4 triton motor?
@Danny Roach It should
Yes.its 1996 and up!
do the codes come back again if you still have a problem? or the car just ignore the problem? how does it work? because i want to get my lights off my dashboard but if the problem persists i want the lights to come back on
The codes and lights will come back on in around a week or so. The scanner is just to see what codes you have so you know what needs to be fixed. You can also turn them off with the scanner to try to pass inspection for tabs, but sometimes the inspection station can tell if you turned them off and they won't pass you.
@@mightymachinez Great info many thanks!
@@ourcollectiveinsanity Any time!
Computer Simulated Atomic Coded Reality I turned mines off for a sensor but it haven’t came back off
Hello,
Does this unit turn off the drain and maintenance lights?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
It can clear check engine lights but only for a short time, its primary function is to check the code that causes the light
I don't live there anymore but Ohio dropped their emission testing years ago. I had a car back then with some issues. I got lucky it passed the last year they had it. It probably wouldn't have passed the next year. 😀
I'm glad they got rid of them here in Washington, I muffler deleted my truck last summer so it wouldn't pass 🤣
They still have it in cuyahoga county thats why im watchin this video now…shit is so stupid lol its always sumthin lol
Thanks for your help! I bought the same code reader but had no idea how to use it....(maybe in the future you could show us how to plug this thing in because I have no idea what I'm doing!) :)
@Rachel Stevenson Glad I could help! The plug for it should be above your pedals.
I fixed my problems on the car and then cleared my codes. I have been driving a lot to get a 'read' on the scanner. Is there anyway to find out if it will pass on the scanner before I take it in?
@@woodsofwindsor5116 The scanner is just to figure out what is wrong with the vehicle. If you try to get it inspected chances are they will be able to tell that you cleared the codes yourself.
VEHICLE is supposed to be in the on position and not running, just like the code reader stated, not running, key on. Can screw up computers from what I've been told on certain vehicles, so beware before you start using it. Best to you.
Thank you for the advice!
How long do you have to wait to get a emission test after clearing the codes
I would drive it for a bit before getting it tested but the light will come back on at some point if the initial issue isn't fixed.
If i hook one of these up to a truck will it tell me if the seller has deleted bad codes like for ex a check engine light i need to know because i am interested in buying a truck
I don't believe so, normally if you clear a code with one of these without fixing the initial issue the light will come back after driving 10 miles or so. Good luck!
@@mightymachinez thank you
If I change my mAf sensor do I clear the code or it goes away
If it is showing a code for your MAF sensor putting a new one on should make the code go away by itself.
@@mightymachinez ok, thx fo always helping
Could cylinder 8 be a bad plug
It was actually the coil, I replaced all 8 because it started to misfire and now it runs great.
I have one like that and my light on it we dim how do I get it back bright
Might have to buy a new one
If it comes back on it might say bud light 😂lol
Mine failed to erase. Mine was a P2646 code on my 2004 Honda element.
Sorry man I know nothing about Honda's, but you might need to take it to a garage if it didn't turn off.
It's the rocker arm oil pressure switch. The light comes on and goes periodically. It's a fast fix, but usually comes on again after replacement. Something with the V-tech engines, when they came out. A lot of element owners have this issue
+@@kevinlempfert9202 Well good luck on getting it fixed! 👍
What year was your truck?
It is an 03 F150
Can I use this on a 2010 car
Sorry for the late reply but yes it should work on any vehicle from 1996- now
If I ever erase all the codes on my car with the tool, will I be able to pass emissions?
You should be able to. Before they got rid of emission testing here, I used that scanner to clear the engine light and it passed just fine.
@@mightymachinez wow seriously, thank you!
@@deathiscoming3010 No problem. The light will come back eventually but it will say off long enough to pass emissions.
@@mightymachinez oh ok good all I need it to do it’s work at the emissions that’s it. Thank you again
@@deathiscoming3010 did you pass the emission
O2 sensor and mass air flow sensor
another popular you tube mechanic says that if you use one of the cheap scanners (he holds this one up) that you can short out your vehicle computer with it.... I just bought one and am nervous to use it. Anyone actually have this experience (of wrecking your car's computer)?
I've used it on several vehicles and never had any issues with it.
Did you pass emissions?
Haven't gotten around to it yet, but It should.
Nope, he didn’t he straight capp’n
@@deeg5466 they got rid of the testing stations so even though its muffler deleted it still passes haha!
What scanner are you using? And thanks for the video!!!!
It has since been discontinued I believe but here is a newer version tinyurl.com/2uuducf2
what about the problem you had?
I fixed the misfire by replacing the plugs and coils but the light came back on about a year later.
What if it says erase fail?
Honestly not sure, never had that pop up. It could be an issue with the scanner itself
Works faster with the engine off.
Misfire? Doesn't seem accurate. Also, would not check engine light flash if that were the case?
At the time it wasn't misfiring but a few months later it did, It ended up being a coil pack.
@@mightymachinez In that case, the device is really impressive, that it detected the onset of trouble. I learned the hard way when an auto shop misdiagnosed a problem I was having as a bad O2 sensor. Later it turned out I had 4 bad ignition coils after sinking $$$ on the wrong issue.
@@vikramgupta2326 Yeah, been there done that haha. Sometimes they aren't super accurate but for 20 bucks it was a steal, I still have the scanner from the video and It still works great.
I use this to fix all cars including lawnmowers, and weed wakers. It can also detect trouble codes on vender machines and scooters.. 😂😂
.
that's got to be bs, there is no hook up in weed whackers or lawmowers
What brand is this?Thanks!!!
Hyper Tough
I have one of these, have tried it on a number of vehicles, have never yet got anything usable from it. Mist of the time it shows some codes but when you try to read gives the no codes stored in module. Absolutely useless and a waste of money
I tried this in my car it does not work .it disappeared the engine light then it came back soon as Iam done erasing the codes .
The scanner isn't really designed to keep the lights away, it just tells you the codes, hope this helps.
To summarize what Mighty Machines said, you have to fix the problem then clear the code.
Cool but it told me to turn off engine then it worked
Trust me it will come back on
It came back on around 6 months ago.
Props, he responded a year later..
@@maximusedwards2042 I still reply to all of my videos! 🤘
@@mightymachinez mine did to the next day so i put a new PCV valve on and engine light went off, fixing to install a thermostat after that I'm checking all my vacuum lines and replace those, cause I can tell a huge different in my obd meter especially with idle
@@suzieq8379 Mine was throwing a code for the EGR valve, I replaced it but the light is still on. It still runs and drives perfectly so I know it's nothing major, probably just an sensor. (My check engine light has been on for years off and on, my father tried to figure out what it was when he still owned it but we didnt have much luck).
If you didn’t fix or replace anything that code will be back
You are correct, it went away for about a year but then came back and is still on haha
I've been getting generic codes like $7E8 am I doing something wrong?
7E8 isn't a actual code, It means you didn't scan the vehicle correctly. I would try scanning the vehicle again.
Misfire must not run as good as you thought
It was intermittent, I replaced the plugs and coils and its ran great since
Injector on 8
Inspection? Wtf Is that
It's where you go to get your vehicle inspected to see if your vehicle is road worthy, If you pass inspection you will be able to get tabs for the next year.
Not a good scanner for modern cars. Experineced problems using this just with my 2010 toyota. Innacurate.
I've used it on several vehicles with no issues, although it was $20 so I wouldn't expect much
Sorry but all you're doing is telling me about your scanner, you're supposed too show how on the scanner, how too erase a code. When the check engine light comes on & how to use the obd2 scanner to erase the code, damn you told me nothing, Peace-Out 😢
Just connect it to your obd2 port and scan the codes and press clear codes
