I think a better match would have been the Z4 M Coupe, it's price is closer to the Cayman S and it is tuned for better handling than the regular Z4 3.0 that are testing here.
M Coupe has way more power than Cayman S, these cars are similarly powered

Not a fair test. Thats a Cayman S you guys comparing to the standard 3.0 Z4 Coupe why could you guys not get 3.2 Z4 M Coupe.

Ok, a little more informed commentary then. I’ve driven and loved them both.
My thoughts, for what they’re worth…
Both cars are great. The Z4 coupe and the Caymen offer something quite distinctive on UK roads, given that z4 roadsters and boxsters are tediously abundant.
Exclusivity, it’s an even match, with the Z taking the prize. They are rarely seen in whatever form. Yes, Z4M owners, yours are rarer still.
Why does the narrator whistles whenever he pronounces the letter "s" or "z"?
I agree with the comments that it’s an unfair comparison. The Z4 should have been a M coupe or the Cayman should have been the base model. Old review but I thought I would chime in.🇨🇦

The way this dude whistles his S's killed this video for me. I've only had my Cayman for a few days & while it's not a straight line Burner (my Volkswagen Phaeton feels like it's got more passing power). but it is buttoned down to the ground & takes curves like a champ.
I know it's been a year but...seriously??? You are surprised that the phaeton is better at straight-line passing?? It's a freaking 12 cylinder, of course it's got pulling power!

Apparently he has never driven a vintage 911, which is the car people are referring to when making that statement. The 911 still has nearly 60% of its'weight hanging over and past the rear axle! (a vestige of its' humble ancestors beginnings as a re-bodied VW Bug) Porsche knew by the '70's when they started adding significantly more power what a mistake they had made, and responded by trying to kill the 911 on several occasions (924, 928 944, 968) and additionally by never designing another vehicle with such a ridiculous distribution of mass and weight. The Cayman on the other hand is a true mid engine car, and displays very nearly 50/50 weight distribution. In fact it is so dynamically superior to the 911, that Porsche will not put as much development and power into the Cayman for fear of cannibalizing sales from the 911 by the rich ignorant masses that continue to plop down ungodly sums for the "mystique" of a 911. It is only by taking advantage of the incredible advancement of electronic nannies that keep the current crop of 911's on the road that Porsche has been able to cut down on the carnage the 911's are so infamous for. Rear end swinger indeed. Go hop in a mid 80's 911 Turbo, hit a twisty road and hammer it. But before you do, make sure your will is up to date.
I think the point he was making was that Porsche is no longer a rear end swinger. They were in the past but not the last 20 years or so.

That was a balanced and fair review. I own a black 08 Z4 coupe so I'm bias, but I think this review did a good job.
I've always thought the Cayman was the best looking of their traditional range (Boxster, Cayman and 911).
I also wished that it had a GT and Turbo model and now in 2022 we do.
They never did 2.5si Coupé. Only 3.0si and 3.2M

Comparing a mid engine to a front engine rear drive is not a fair match. Not to mention it’s should be a Z4M if you want to compare them side by side.

Over the '06 to '09 run there were only ever about 4500 coupé brought into the UK so they're actually surprisingly exclusive.
Which made it incredibly weird when I saw a total of about 7 (inc' mine when I had it) on the way home from work once lol.

😳 I doubt you'll get this this many years later. But I just got a 2006 3L si coupe Imported into Canada from Japan. Black and right hand drive. Sadly it has an automatic but it's actually a pretty decent transmission it seems? The really nice thing is that this generation of the coupe was never sold in Canada so I doubt I'll be seeing even 1 per month! (I would imagine there's a few that have been imported into Canada from Japan running around out there) I've had it for all of a week and I absolutely love it! Hopefully yours is still serving you well?
The S in words will be a nightmare for me from now on.

What’s a Koo-Pay? What’s a Meter? What’s a Liter? What’s a Kay-Mannn? What does Zed mean? I was expecting to hear that the fenders are made from Alum-minium. But it never happened.
The Cayman's motor is fragile. If you looking for a track car you may be in for some expensive repairs.
I test drove both, and bought the Cayman. Z4 was close, but everything feels a bit numb compared to the Cayman. Its not that the Z4 lacks "feel" its just the Cayman is hyper sensitive (in a good way). Z4 drives like a modern car, Cayman is a modern car that drives like a 60's or 70's sports car, where you felt an element of danger starting at reasonable speeds, as if there was less car between you and the pavement. Z4 had that Lexus feel that so many luxury sports cars have these days. Cayman is more raw, yet still comfortable (not easy to do).

The 20,000 euro difference as stated in the show is misleading. Base CS and base Z4 in 2007 were less than $8k apart but when you add options, especially on Porsches, the price can go through the roof. I own a 2008 base Cayman w/ 245 hp (compared with the 2007 Z4's 265 hp) - price much more comparable and you get the Porsche handling.
Now that the Z4 is a cushy retractable roof car (and thus no coupe), not as much of a price difference. The 2014 Cayman wins hands down in a new comparison.

Why wouldn't they compare the Cayman S against the Z4M coupe, or the regular Cayman against the Z4? Of course with this comparison the Porsche is going to be sportier.
I got rid of my bmw z4 M and traded it for a cayman. its a much better car

They are awesome drivers cars. Its just the first time I hear of someone swopping a Porsche for a Vauxhall. Maybe I'm just a little snobbish. Id take either anyways. Just if I had the bucks id take the Porsche.
john sparten Yeah makes sense. You have a Z4M!! I'm a BMW fanatic. I have a E90 335i. 225kw. 400nm. The Z4M is a awesome car. Cant beat that naturally aspirated 3.2 straight six sound.

Plasma knows his stuff. The coupe comes in only three flavors, SE and Si (with 3.0) and the M (3.2) beastie. The porker is the better car. Better chassis, better build, better badge. BUT, If you want to know what happens when a Z4M coup driver gets tired of the view in his (or her) rear mirror search youtube for "Slovakiaring Porsche Cayman S vs BMW Z4M Racingwheels"
then, skip the view to 10 mins (its a 15 min video).

I've got a Z4 Coupe 3.0, seems like a fair assessment to me. That said, the Z4 is the best car I've ever owned as an all round sports car. Hilarious fun still and I've got the auto which I personally think suits the car as it gets rid of the stiff gearchange of the manual and the semi-auto mode is still plenty involving. Its great for doing the dull stuff when you can't be bothered, but comes alive in sport+manual - like Jekyll and Hyde. For the 8 grand I paid I can't complain at all.

I'm a minute in and annoyed. You start off giving us the outputs and price of the Z4 but then for the Cayman you give the price and just say that engine capacity and power are "more".
The only reason people are watching this is so that we can directly compare the two. I know this is an old video so I can only hope you have improved over the years.
And look at the price difference between the Cayman S and the Stock Z4 What were these Guys smoking?
Price: Z4 coupe win, same year, same mileage, same spec(ish) the Z is 30% cheaper.
Conclusion: Buy both! Just kidding. There’s not much in it. The residual value of the Caymen is outstanding. What you get for the Z coupe for the money is astounding, but what you’ll get in 3 years time vs the Caymen...well there in lies the true cost of ownership.
Conclusion: if you can buy a good Caymen, (18K +) buy one. If you can’t, buy a better Z4 coupe for the same money.
