Hooked Something Giant while Vertical Jigging and Bowfishing for Bonito

- While I was fishing offshore with my fellow CZcamsrs LakeForkGuy and LunkersTV, I hooked something giant while vertical jigging that couldn’t be stopped. We had to chase this fish with the boat. After fighting the giant, we setup a new drift and started fishing for bonito (false albacore). Rob wanted to go bowfishing for bonito. After several attempts, he managed to hit one. Seconds later, things got chaotic!

When people say "why do you buy such an expensive reel (Stella SW) when my cheap Penn can catch the same thing?" Well you guys, this is why. Other reels would have broken down with such extreme heat and the drag and gears would have said "NOPE"

100% true. I have broken many cheap spinning reels on big fish.
haha he said "cheap Penn". A Penn would not have got that hot because they are made of real metals unlike Shimanos that feel like cheap plastic.
CIGS Fishing in that case you have never felt a Stella or even a stradic. Shimano may use composite materials in some of their cheaper offerings but anything above a NASCI is usually all aluminum at the exception of their Ci4+ and Magnesium reels. The stella he is using is an engineering masterpiece however. The drag is able to dissipate heat throughout the spool, the gears are able to stay aligned under pressure and it just all works.
CIGS Fishing just because the reel is metal doesn't mean that it won't get hot, I've fought big sturgeon on a penn battle and that thing heated up a lot.

Amazing how hard that fish is pulling....what's even more amazing is how hard he's pulling back on that rod. He's really digging into it and that thing is holding tough like a champ. That's the real star of the show

That Shimano Stella is nice, but BlacktipH you should try the Daiwa Dogfight reel. They can stand more punishment & heat. There is a reason your buddy Dennis Verreet switched from the Stella to the Daiwa Dogfight. Fighting those big 200+ Yellow Fin Tunas burned his Stella up!

Greg F well you may be right, but I also take into consideration how it ate the vertical jig, and also the person fighting the fish will know how a tuna feels, but you need experience to tell correctly.

Yeah buddy! That was a tuna 100%. I experienced the 200 degree reel a few days ago. Coulda put a little more heat on em, got em turned. But just getting him stopped has you half exhausted alrdy. I thought it was my reel, but the energy has to go somewhere, and the heat transfers to the spool.

i appreciate the sport, being from kenya myself and a massive deep sea fishing fan,
I don't want to step on your toes boys but, I watch your videos with intent, always, and have enjoyed the majority of them when you're fishing for larger fish, but when you have scaled it down to bonito fishing and parading them around after gaffing them as if to mean it's normal to treat them as such, is wrong. Especially when you only use bonito as bait fish, not for 'eating,' and preferably on a down rigger when and where it's kept alive.(obviously depends on what you're going for, but you get a lot of your target fish at depths using a down rigger)
I come from somewhere where fishing is decorated with talent, luck, culture, and passion, but most importantly respect for the sport and the fishies involved!
I always get excited when fishing but I hold my respect for the water and the fish I may hurt, injure, or kill, in the highest form because at the end of the day, with out them you wouldn't be able to parade a bonito around like a child on a boat anyway.
Thanks guys, just seems below you and of-course the sport. I appreciate you guys in so many ways but lets not tarnish something just because we forget our respect, let alone our moral understanding of the food chain. We are at the top, don't act like you're fighting the fish to stay there.
You should carry a can of pb blaster (compressed air) so when those big fish run you can just blast it and keep that reel nice n cool.
