Hi Frank - Russell's Steak House was in the restaurant building for many years, and was famous for their prime rib dinner, and prime rib soup. The Russell family owned and ran it and it was a treat to eat there in front of the roaring fireplace. They also had a very popular lounge and bar area when BC Open attendees gathered. Prior to Russell's, they owned the restaurant that was across from IBM Glendale, that was named ' Boots and Saddles' before it changed names again. That hotel was built in the '60's, and it was considered a very beautiful and modern motel property at that time. I remember my elementary school class from Charles F. Johnson taking a tour of it as a class field trip. Such a shame to see once proud locations become so downtrodden and left to deteriorate.
Good and interesting video. Thanks.
The Food Fusion restaurant used to be "The Red Lion" back in the '60s and '70s. Really good food and entertainment. I don't know what can really be done with the hotel property, commercially. Making a hotel for use only once a year for the Dick's Open wouldn't be practical. Some kind of housing might be a better idea, especially for retirees who are avid golfers. By the way, have you heard anything more about the demolition of the old IBM buildings in Endicott?
The Red Lion was still going strong into the 80s and early 90s too. I went there before ME’s Homecoming in November 1989.
That parcel could accommodate a good number of tiny houses for veterans, like the one you showed us in Binghamton. How is that development coming along? I read that the State was funding some housing solutions such as that one. Every city needs them. Our veterans deserve it.
I remember when that was the red lion restaurant use to be really nice
Omg, I think my family stayed there at one point in time. A very long time ago.
Whatever happened to the Peppermill restaurant???
Moved and then closed
I can't wait to see this eyesore torn down. I agree, i think townhomes or a small apartment complex would be great!
Every time I drove by that specific inn, I imagined either a halfway house, or homeless shelter, or a refuge for abuse victims. Everyone gets a private room with a bathroom, it's not huge but provides the necessities, and allows people to get themselves centered and back on their feet. But I didn't realize how bad off the structure was. But I'll hold on to the dream for another location!
The Red Carpet Inn in downtown Scranton went by the wayside, too. I agree about what was 😞.
I've had breakfast there. This is so sad, such a great place.
Broome's biggest eyesores have been dropping one by one the last few years. Now if they can just finish the power station.
It's finally happening!
When was it shut down and boarded up? I used to drive by there often and it was still up and going back then but that was years ago.
I feel like it’s been at least a year or two
Thanks Frank
All that place needed was a new coat of paint. It would have been perfectly fine.
It's more than just ugly painting
another great video
That place was spider infested
The last thing we need is low income housing for welfare recipients, we see how that's been working out! everywhere!!!
Endicott needs high paying JOBS, not low income housing. IBM left this place a job ghost town, still dying a slow death. Left there in 1998, never looked back .. the rest of America is BOOMING.. the triple cities is still decaying.
