Heads up, this is not a tech review! I’m not a tech guy by any means! This is just a casual unboxing, no fancy in-depth stuff is going on.
And thanks for all of the lovely comments, everyone! This video is blowing up faster than expected. I’m sorry if the video wasn’t as informative as it could be, I’m not much of a tech guy (at all). But I’ll answer what I can and know down here in the comments!

I believe the OLED case separates into two pieces. The outer shell and a smaller inner shell. Hence the velcro.
Tried that as soon as I saw your comment, I was wondering what the purpose of the Velcro was lol
The Velcro serves two purposes one to hold the inner shell but also a failsafe so if you unzip your deck and forget it won’t fall out of the case I’m loving your video I can’t wait for mine!
@@jeanhazen2578The guy who does the "Deck Ready" channel actually had that happen and had to send in the device for repair. I felt like the outer Velcro was speaking directly to him lol.

They increased the polling rate on the OLED decks. That means that the touch screen should overall feel more responsive.

I gotta say though I’m a bit disappointed that valve is shipping it in the same box as last time and not putting it in a outer box for protection. FedEx around here pretty much recreates the scene from ace venture from what I’ve experienced.

@@dogearmybrian7070 it felt nice and gave a better gripping. The travel shell it has is awesome also and the protective covers for the joy cons is great. I enjoyed it on my LCD deck and it’s gonna go great with the OLED. To each their own my good man .

To what you were saying at the end, yes absolutely it is worth the $680 pricetag(,$730 after tax). You gotta realize that the OG steam deck topped out at 512gb and was $650. with the regular oled you get 1Tb for the same pricetag of $650 effectively making the steam deck oled CHEAPER than the originals. What other company out there makes a mid gen refresh like this that offers SO MUCH for cheaper? Oled screen, 90hz refresh rate, better battery, faster downloads due to a new wifi 6 chip, faster ram. And many other things. Steam is probably actually losing money on deck sales but they make up for it on their game sales. I highly applaud valve for what theyve done here. All these upgrades and made the deck cheaper??? Thats unheard of.

@@predaliendude the old 512gb deck was $650 and the oled 512gb is $550. Just to put it into perspective :) steam has phenomenal customer service. I can get any game I want for free(not totally legal of course), but because of my loyalty to valve I actually enjoy supporting them with my game purchases
Min you you can get the /oled 512 for $549.That's worth i. Wh pay 750$ for a shell. Not worth it IMO.

And $650 in late 2023 is less money than $650 in early 2022, sad to say. So yea the OLED steam deck is an amazing value, possibly the best handheld emluation device out there, it's incredible.

I think I agree with you on the level of translucency on this model. I had considered (for getting on the older model) getting a clear shell and back that was more “neutral” brighter? clearer? but I wouldn’t want it to distract from the content on the display as well.
Yeah, if the front of the console was as flashy as the back, it would have been a major distraction during gameplay. I’m glad they went the route that they did.
So hyped for mine to get here. My fiancé had wanted one since I got mine in aug 2022 so now she gets my LCD model with 1TB and now i get this LE OLED. Win win.

As someone in the UK I'm surprised they didn't at least do the LE here, absolutely gutted as the look on this one is really nice. Hopefully in the future or when they do a SD 2 they offer translucent ones as standard everywhere as an option. Love the edged glass on my current one which was a launch pre-order so went with that again, hopefully it shows up next week. Will just transfer my 2TB SSD and should be up an running in a few minutes 🙂

Pardon my ignorance but does it require any...setting up to transfer game data, mainly saves? I am assuming I will just have to sign in to Steam on the OLED when I get it and all of my games' saved data will be there that I had on my original Deck.
For me, all I had to do was login and my saves were there. If it’s not there, there’s always the Steam Cloud which stores those saves across devices. Hope this helps!

I was considering getting the LE or the regular OLED but I was iffy about how the limited edition looked, some angles made it look not so great, and others made it look really cool. This video convinced me to get one.

Yes, the developers of the case spoke about the intense process of creating it perfectly. There was a lot of time, skill, and money that went into this. It’ll be very unlikely to find a shell of this quality as a third party.

I am interested to see if text fairs any better on games that don't support the Deck like Black Ops 2. I have been playing it but the text is almost not legible. BTW it runs great with Proton Experimental running.

Do you have to buy a screen protector ontop of the anti glacis glass already included on the steam deck
It comes with a clothe that works great, I don’t think there’s a need to buy anything extra (unless you want something better quality, but this seems really good already).
I'm really curious if you haven't upgraded to 3.5.5 on your LCD Steam Deck, for a comparison with VibrantDeck to the OLED model? Try and boost saturation to get as close to the OLED as you can, to see the effects? As far as I can tell 3.5.5 breaks the VibrantDeck plugin.
Ah, see I don’t use any PlugIns actually - not yet at least. Something to try though if I ever want to boost visual quality on the LCD

I live in Wisconsin so not too far but yeah, still nothing. Tracking number works but hasn’t gone anywhere.
I’ve been using Steam since it’s inception back in 2004 or 2005 I believe but never had an account until 2006, then it got vac banned so I made a new one in 2008. That account I’ve bought over 2,000 games now, kind of insane. So the Steam Deck is a no brained but man does the choice get overwhelming sometimes.

Thank you for making the video, I was surprised by some of the color choices, like the micro fiber cloth being white (shows dirt more easily, I have a blue one that is really dark from all the dirt despite washing it a lot), or the carrying case I thought the symbol was going to be orange but turns out it is black on the LE version and orange on the non LE version I think. I like the yellow steam deck icon with the loadup screen, I kind of wish the thumbsticks were yellow too (I used to own a yellow N64 controller when I was young), looking forward to getting my Deck! I already bought a $240 2TB WD M.2 2230 SSD, the best one you can get and for black friday it was on sale for $170! I picked up 2 at the local Best Buy so just waiting patiently..@@predaliendude
I also ordered mine on November 16, within the first hour of sales going live. As of right now, 3:30 PM Eastern time on Monday the 20th, I still don’t even have a tracking number for my steam deck yet. While I do appreciate the free shipping that Valve included with the purchase, I would have gladly pay the shipping premium to get it faster if that had been an option.
Yeah, been hearing the same from a lot of folks. They’re rolling these out at a weird rate. But my guess is that you’ll get tracking this week.
Having owned a couple retro handhelds, the light bleed on the LED light is a bit distracting. They should have tacked on some masking tape to keep the light from shining all over the place. But all in all its a pretty cool limited edition. I hope Valve decides to sell shells in the future. I'd love to purchase the classic atomic purple one.

Does the light from the screen or the led charging light bleed out into the case in a distracting way in a dark room?
The light from the screen, none at all (from what I can tell so far). When charging, there is a noticeable white light which is especially noticeable in the dark. But, it’s minimal and doesn’t bleed too far beyond the outer edge of the top of the console (and definitely not onto the screen). Still, noticeable enough in the dark, especially when playing darker games like survival horror stuff.
The screen is self emissive...there is no light bleed?

Quick question? I've heard the Anti-Glare screen negates the colors and brightness on the Deck. I've heard that the 512 gig model OLED screen is better than the 1tb model. Can u please confirm?
I don’t see any differences in terms of color/brightness, but people have told me the other models have a better screen. I would look out for videos comparing all the models though, someone’s bound to do it.

Didn’t do anything with the thumbsticks actually, and I’m pretty sure the screen improved because my camera adjusted. It looks consistent and great throughout the demo.
I ordered the 512 Oled as I think the all black looks much more clean. And I prefer a gloss display when it comes to Oled. I’m not worried about reflections or glare I’d prefer as much color and contrast and that pop that Oled goodness brings.

Agree, the solid stealth jet black look of the 512 GB model looks a lot more sleek and mature. Personally, Im not a huge fan of this one. When it comes to funky designs, it has to be extreme, and the smokey seethrough thing is a bit too bland in my opinion. If it was something crazy, like atomic purple with blue or green accents, different story. I’m happy that this exists and people are liking it though, because it means Valve will consider more color options going forward, at least that’s what the rumors say Valve said.
@@TheSixthSLoT well said and I agree as well. Shame those top end models have anti glare cause I wanted one tb but I have a 2tb ssd waiting to be installed hopefully on Tuesday mine should be here. Cannot wait to play all the rogue like, metroidvania and classic rpg back log. This was the revision I was waiting for. The things that is also nice about the SD is that there are already a million different customizations you can do from skins to shell replacements just like on the LE. The process takes some time but it’s pretty straight forward. This one will last me until the deck 2 comes out. Hopefully it will allow to add my gog, and epic accounts without all the work around.
@@kaiichinose9590 I have a ton of GOG games, and my biggest issue with the OG Steam Deck was that it barely ran any of them. I have the ROG Ally right now and it runs pretty much anything that I want, but the battery life is horrible. I'd rather have a unit with decent battery, even if it means a chunk of my gaming library isn't playable, so back to Steam I go. Hoping that things are better this time as well 🤞🤞🤞🤞
@@TheSixthSLoT Yeup I did find a way to link gog through the proton layer due to it being drm free and works very well without installing windows. It just takes about 45 steps to do but once it’s there it’s fine. I had the ally for about 45 days it’s a fantastic device but yes battery life was horrible, even playing Dave the diver at 30-60 FPS med settings 1080p I got like an hour. I believe the next version of all these handhelds will be even better but for what the steam deck can do and with efficiency I just have a feeling in two years when the next gen comes out it will be even more outstanding because it’s its own software l. Kinda like Apple in a sense and I love Samsung.

I ordered mine right after 12 pm on the 16th after dealing with the transaction errors for about 20 minutes until they fixed it, yet somehow mine took 2-3 days to ship and there's still no update on its location when I check with the tracking number. Were you doing the same thing I was doing, watching the clock like a hawk and clicking the order button right on the second at 12:00:00 pm CST or are you just lucky?

I was 16 when I got my Steam account. December 28, 2004😂. Look great can't wait for mine to ship. Took a lot of justifying for me to finally pull the trigger on the upgrade. I'm slightly disappointed in the all black logo on the case and the white logo on the bag. The bag looks like the bag from the of cheaper editions. I definitely prefer the blue and white logos of the original reminds me of aperture science. Well now to go sell stuff to play for this thing
Brooo same :( I hate that premium black logo on the LE case! The inside looks like 90s shirt logo kinda feel meh about it too. I ordered the tomtoc black slim case and their new hard case too.

fyi you've probably figured it out or someone may have already mentioned it but the inner lining in the oled carrying case can be removed for a lighter/soft shell carrying option.
Yeah, figured that out after filming this. It was a nice little feature to add, something I didn’t expect.
I know it's an inner case but I think one thoughtful consideration for that velcro strap positioning is to be able to quickly close the case without using the zipper
It's not 100% secure, but you won't drop the steam deck walking ten feet like an airhead like me.
Kinda makes me consider not using dbrand case anymore
Agreed, the strap was a nice touch. And I’m the same, I will trip on air so at least I know it’ll be secure.

Yeah, data transfer. You can swap hard drives easily, otherwise any sd card will plug/play seamlessly if it’s set up for the old deck.
I wouldn't mind doing a clear shell swap on an OG. Looks sick

Yea, I'm happy I ordered one, gonna sell my old one to someone for the holidays. The upgrades were just too worth it for me to stay with the OG for another 2-3 years or whenever they make the Steam Deck 2.

Ugh I'm so jealous! I was at launch, literally the very second it released, and i kept getting error pages for 38 minutes of constantly trying to place the order. Mine hasn't shipped yet. Bummer
It’ll likely ship this coming week, they’re rolling these out fast. I think I got mine as fast as I did because I live near to where they ship (at least that’s my guess).
I just bought an LCD for $399 XD I suppose it was a sacrifice for everyone else still happy with it even OC it to 70hz with decky loader vibrant deck and 1.5tb of storage love this thing I'll grab the best deck 2 in a couple years next for me is the next index

Pretty slick I have a launch deck that I upgraded with 2tb of storage a custom backplate and custom buttons it’s nice I’m going to wait for the oled to go on sale and likely grab the 512gb and put my old deck ssd in it and put the 512 in my old deck for my daughter to use
Nice, sounds like a plan. The upgrades you mentioned sound cool. I only ever dabbled with custom stuff for the One X Player, my brother had 3D printed grips for it and it felt wayyyy better with them on.
I really cant decide between the three models. I mean, if the non-matte 512gb version was just $50 less i'd still have a hard time deciding. The anti glare does make the colors more natural but tbh I dont see myself using it in sunny conditions or anything, and the gloss def makes colors pop more. As far as the black vs the limited look i'm not sure either. It's more "gamey" looking and as much as I loved half life straight black might be preferable at my age...
I heard that the 512GB version is the best. Because the anti glare on the 1TB doesn’t do the oled screen much benefit
It’s certainly very flashy, regular version is much more subtle - especially when going out with it.
