Werewolf by The Frantics

  • In early 1960, Dolton would release the Frantics' latest effort, an ode to the werewolf legend which had taken hold of the country via old horror movies shown on late night television. It immediately became popular locally and around the country leading Billboard magazine to feature it with a blurb and a bullet (meaning it was fast rising on the charts). Just as quickly as it had risen, it was suddenly dropped off of the charts. There was, without question, an anti rock 'n roll movement in the country at the time. Many radio stations had even quit playing rock 'n roll or discontinued their top forty lists entirely. Dolton would release a second version featuring "No Werewolf" on the flip side, hoping that hesitant program managers would give it a chance. But the momentum had been lost. Even so, after all these years, "Werewolf" has now become a staple around Halloween time.
