Haha, the moment you said 'My dad totally won't really care, no big deal', I KNEW what the next thing would be, that he surprised you with how big a deal it actually was to him.😅 I think a lot of women underestimate guys that way...😅 So happy for a of you.😁❤❤
I'm really interested in hearing about your diet during this time. When I lived in Japan, two friends who are Latina, like me, got pregnant and they were furious about the restrictions they got and that they couldn't find vitamins because they make you fat, and always told us how disappointed they were in that specific issue, that it was more important that the women had to remain thin and low weight even when they are pregnant! Needles to say, their families sent a lot of stuff from their respective countries, but that always something that blew our minds. Besides that, they were very impressed and happy and thankful with the medical professionals, since they were treated so well... Except the weight "problem". Edit: also, one of them is a vegetarian and that made things so much more difficult.
It isn’t buuuuut it is. At least in my experience. In Sapporo we also get the coupon book 📖 and almost all visits/scans are covered I think 🤔 I paid like $30-$50 for something at some point. Plus they do waaaaay more scans than the US aaaaaand my co pay for things here are like $50-$80 & I’m also a teacher here in the US too. Buuuuuuuut basically it’s said it’s not covered but between the “birth allowance” lump sum and the coupons we paid next to nothing and some people even “make money” or have it left over. It really breaks down into hospital birth vs special women’s clinic C-section vs natural birth. Private room vs shared room (for after birth) I TOTALLY recommend private room it’s more expensive but having a shared room although everyone was amazing I felt self conscious lol! I was the only foreigner and when my lil guy cried in the night I felt bad for the other mommas. But all that to say it’s actually waaaaaay more affordable then a typical hospital birth here in the states. Ooooo plus they have child support basically free daycares and partial paid maternity leave/child so truthfully they really take very good care of you.
After you give birth in Japan (or have a stillbirth or miscarriage after 12 weeks), the government gives you a lump sum (the “Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant” of ¥420,000, which is around $4000. Depending on where/how you give birth, some have to pay extra, while others get to keep the extra money they didn’t use.
@@aryant1884 I’ve seen other CZcamsrs say even after reimbursement, you can expect to spend $4,000 to $5,000 for a regular birth with no epidural (which is very uncommon in Japan).
@@susie2251 that doesn't seem to be the norm unless you choose a very pricey hospital in Tokyo (the most popular choice is St. Luke's which is the most expensive hospital in Japan) even I'm giving birth in Tokyo and the average owed is usually 1-2k based on what other moms have told me. Outside of Tokyo, in small towns, people could even get more money back from the allowance. I'm choosing to have epidural so it is an extra cost on my end. But if there's a complication that requires medical help (like emergency c-section) it will be covered by insurance.
First off, I wanna say loosing a family member like peanut while your pregnant is never easy, I am veterinary technician so I deal with this a lot and I lost my 17 year old dog 32 weeks pregnant last year, and I still was a bag of tears. So RIP peanut, the cuddliest blue and cream tortie there ever was. Japan: Omg guys PLEASE have kids the birth rate is declining! 😩 Also Japan: Pfft fuck you, childbirth is not covered by insurance Congratulations Reina! I'm so glad everything is going well!
I KNOW RIGHTTTTT😭 however, I DO believe you get some of the delivery / hospital stay costs reimbursed through something called “birth allowance” 😳😅 but you initially have to pay when discharged… in CASH 💴
Being pregnant is not considered a medical condition in Japan (my husband is a doctor here), BUT your local government will reimburse a large amount if not all of it. My pregnancy was completely covered, and my birth will be around 100-200 USD in the end.
My wife and I are going through the same thing here in Japan. (She is due Middle of Oct.) You described everything perfectly. This should be a lot of help to others in the future.
My birthday is November 10th, 1997. So hearing about this news is absolutely wonderful. Congratulations and I hope you have a safe delivery. I'm still young, so until I can find myself a genuinely caring boyfriend, then I'll see where life takes me from there. I am in absolutely no rush!! 🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤
Okay now they’re cute lmao I never thought of it that way! I was always just like…… WHY isn’t it ADORABLE 😅 my friend also said it’s supposed to be “ugly cute” too but to me it isn’t UGLY ENOUGH to cross over to the ugly cute side 🤔
Congrats on the gender reveal and the first two trimesters going well, minus the symptoms. I love Mike’s idea of making a Halo map in Forge to do the reveal in. 😄
Girl, I hear you on the pain medication- as soon as I gave birth, the nurses gave me ibuprofen-it was heaven !! I had TERRIBLE hormonal headaches when I was preggo with my son. Acetaminophen didn’t even touch the pain.
Hey Reina, I am so happy for you! My wife and I lost two pregnancies in the last year and a half, so I’ve been to these appointments with here quite a lot. It was nice to see how things are different in Japan!
The morning sickness is no joke! I had it in week 6 and I just wanted to do nothing but lay down and suffer! I got our nipt results via my hospitals app and we wanted to know right away, so congratulations to being able to wait as long as you did!
reina im so happy for you and your baby and i pray for your health, mentally and physically. you honestly deserve all the happiness your child will bring you
Reina, you get all the respect for putting your health issues, and your pregnancy journey out there for everyone to watch. Wishing you, and Mike, and 赤ちゃん all the best going forward.
I wasn’t really emotional during my wife’s pregnancy but as soon as my kids were born every emotion imaginable came out, it’s an overwhelming joy, congrats おめでとうございます
Mazel tov!! And that little Rutgers dress is a super cute tribute to all your memories that has happened there. It all came full circle. A sign of a new chapter beginning. Have a healthy pregnancy, Reina!
Ahh from watching you all the way back when you were on sourcefed to now finding out you guys are about to have a baby is so amazing and I'm so happy for you! I had a very tragic pregnancy/birthing story. I was told I couldn't have kids because of the particular way my cervix sat. But when I found out I was pregnant I was so excited and so ready. However, that all quickly changed in an instant. I was in so much pain and so, so sick. My cervix slowly began to get thinner and thinner as the baby grew. I had to get a couple stitches on my cervix to help try and keep it together and I was on strict bed rest. It felt like every time I moved or walked everything would just rip and fall out. I had to have someone help me to the bathroom every time and I had a hard time showering or even sitting in a bathtub. I was so depressed. Just like you, I was very clumsy as baby grew. I was home along for just an hour and I couldn't hold it because baby was very heavy on my bladder and so I tried to go to the bathroom on my own. unfortunately I had fallen and had to be taken to er. Everything had ripped and at 28 weeks pregnant my daughter, Luna (because I love Sailor Moon, and always loved that name) was born. However, being born so early and so being so small she, unfortunately, passed two days after being born due to complications of her heart and lungs. So every time I see the moon I always tell her I love her and miss her. She would be almost six years old now.
Oh, Mia I am so so very sorry… I’m sobbing replying back to you now. I wish I could find the right words to say to offer comfort, sympathy, and condolences but there truly are no words that would be enough. Thank you for sharing your story. That couldn’t have been easy. I will also keep you and Luna in my heart when I look up at the moon.
Our babies are due around the same time ❤️ I'm sending you extra positive vibes because I know how hard it can be. I started this pregnancy with C-Diff and a Covid scare. Now I've had back to back infections. It's tough, but so worth it. I hope you have a safe delivery ❤️
Congrats!!! You're due a month before me! My husband and I agreed to not get the NIPT test but I find out gender next month!~ I totally understand the feeling of it not all feeling real, I didn't feel a bond or anything special with the baby until my bump started coming out and the butterfly kicks started. I'm so excited for you and I hope the rest of the pregnancy goes smooth! Same with me because 1st trimester had me regretting everything! LOL
Yaaay congratulations! The dizziness is so weird, apparently due to bp dropping in 2nd trimester. I twisted my ankle at 23 weeks and went down on my bump, antenatal ER but all good. Today I've entered the 3rd trimester and the pelvic discomfort has hit big time!
Omg how scary! That must've been so stressful. I'm so glad you and the baby are okay! Congrats on entering the third trimester~ I'm not looking forward to the pelvic discomfort 😩
@@reinascully luckily I've a bit of extra tummy padding anyway, but always best to get checked out. Bit sore for a couple of days but all good. Such a different pregnancy to my last though. And over bump maternity jeans are soooo comfy! Apparently the bump/belly belts are good for the pelvic pain and that lovely pillow should help too! I've just ordered one. Other half probably won't like it taking up bed space, but I'm sure he'll find the sofa comfy!
First off - congrats ♥ I've had 2 kids and both pregnancies were vastly different from each other. With my daughter, just the smell of packet pasta made me nauseated. I was exhausted most of the time. And it took at least 3 months for my pregancy to show. With my son, my body was "Yep, I know what to do" and was showing by the second month. He was also bigger than my daughter. Also, not tired and no morning sickness with him. My advice is to listen to your body and rest when it tells you to. You are growing a whole new person inside of you and that can be exhausting. And body pillows are amazing. My youngest is 18yrs now, and I still use a body pillow. Total game changer.
I had my baby in Japan too. I’m pretty sure that insurance covers the childbirth and hospitalization costs. You do have to pay up front(when you are discharged) and then you will be reimbursed. At the time the amount reimbursed was up to ¥300,000
I'm having my very first appointment in about an hour or so (nervous yet excited by all means). Thanks so much for sharing this video. it means a mil tacos to me. kisses from Osaka
I've been watching you since you were on buzzfeed I'm so happy for you and the new baby girl!! You will be a wonderful mother! I guessed right on the gender reveal hehe 😁
congrats, my old friend. i am so happy for you that i am actually crying tears of joy and i'm not the one pregnant here. lol. congrats to you and mike both, i will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. sending you both love as well. take care, stay safe and god bless to you and yours.
Oh I’m so excited for you guy’s!! 🥰🥰 I’m so excited to keep up with your journey! I hope the pregnancy symptoms aren’t too rough on you and you all stay healthy and happy 😃❤️🙏🏻
Congratulations!!!! I’m so happy everyone is healthy and doing so well. Thank you for sharing with us. I was wrong. I was guessing, boy. Ps…Japan, pls change…time to cover pregnancies with your universal healthcare. I was totally shocked to hear this. My aunt had her knee replaced. She stayed 30 days in a Tokyo hospital. She received all her therapy, meals, care, etc. No wonder people aren’t having as many children. Again Congratulations on your miracle baby.
Japanese healthcare and their insurance is overall quite amazing- I’m glad your aunt was treated well in Tokyo! But I, too, was shocked to learn that pregnancy isn’t covered by insurance here! The concept is that- if it’s an illness or an injury, insurance will take care of it. But things like pregnancy and even preventative procedures like flu shots / vaccinations aren’t covered.
So don’t stress over not being excited about things in pregnancy. It happens to more women than you’d think. I’ve had several miscarriages. I don’t start getting attached until after 8 weeks or so and even then there is a massive detachment. We also don’t call baby by their birth name while they’re in the womb. They get cute nicknames until birth. Also, a lot of women (and men) don’t immediately feel that overwhelming love when their baby is born. That’s okay too. Love comes in time. Doesn’t mean you’re a bad mom if you don’t feel it right away. It came a lot faster with my second kid. You’ve been through a lot. Don’t forget to give yourself some grace.
I'm so happy for you💕 enjoy your time with the baby when it comes, try to take as many pictures of the baby as you can, because time flies so so fast, it feels like yesterday when I first held our small baby girl in a hospital and now she's already 2,5 years old big toddler with 95cm constantly arguing with me over everything. Haha.
Congrats! I hope everything goes well. Two points of concern are: 1: Having a fever during early pregnancy could increase the risk of issues with baby development, so keep a close eye on your child's development. 2: Air travel exposes you to high radiation especially on a long duration polar route such as the Tokyo-NYC route. Around 0.05 ~ 0.1mSv is the estimate, which is equivalent to getting an x-ray. It's unlikely for you to have a major problem or complication, but it's all about mitigating risk and being prepared. Good luck, I hope all goes swimmingly.
Congratulations on everything. Pregnancy is a hard road for anyone but there are millions that have gone through hard pregnancy's before so you are not alone . I have seen many scared soon to be mom's while i was in the military i worked ob/gyn and had the honor of helping many families begin. Oddly enough this was in Yokosuka on the US base there. You got this it will be stressful it will be exhausting but i wish you a safe and happy pregnancy stay safe and healthy for the both of you.
Super excited y’all are having a girl!!! I am beyond happy for y’all!!! Many blessings to your baby and prayers for a safe pregnancy and delivery. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
MINI REINA!!! YAAAAY! 🥰 Also, my wife and I fought about the gender reveal. I was 110% against finding out gender until the birth. She was 1,000,000% in favour of finding out the gender ASAP. Clearly I lost that battle. 🤣 However, in my defence against the biggest argument for learning the gender (you need to know for clothing colours and decorating), they grow out of their first clothes in only about 2-3 months anyways, so the initial neutral colours wouldn’t last too long… and you can always easily add onto decorations to incorporate appropriate colours. I’d still want to leave gender discovery for the actual birth. With modern life there just aren’t enough genuine surprises left anymore. Maybe I’m just crazy like that. 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Omedetou gozaimasu Reina and Mike! My sister is due in September and I'm so excited to be an uncle. This video made me so much more excited for her, and your journey as well. I hope your pregnancy continues to go well and your little baby girl comes into this world happy and healthy❤️
So we're childfree by choice, and I'm not usually interested in pregnancy videos or kids in general (apart from friends & families little ones), but I'm so happy for you guys and kinda invested in your journey, so here I am ❤ Sending much love & well wishes from the UK xoxo ETA - I'm so sorry about Peanut 💔 You were amazing cat parents & she'll be watching over you and the baby until you meet again ❤❤❤
Wow thank you! Your comment (especially about Peanut 🥹) was so sweet and thoughtful 💛 my hormone drowned brain is getting emotional 😭 thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment!
The booklet makes me think of the Mutterpass (literally "Mother pass") that I got when I was pregnant in Germany. It had all of my vitals from my appointments, and I had to bring it to all of my appointments (I believe I was supposed to have it on me at all times). I didn't give birth in Germany because we moved halfway through my pregnancy, so I didn't get the whole experience there. But I still have my Mutterpass somewhere in storage. It's such a nice thing to have. I ended up with the really bad morning sickness, but it finally went away about halfway in (around 20 weeks). It does suck though. Glad everything is going well so far for you, and I am so excited for you! 🥳
So happy for you guys, I bet she's going to be an adorable addition to your family. Wish you all the best and I hope that you will all have many blessed years to come.
Unrelated to babies, but I love how your background is all Pokemon, but then there's the one little Inuyasha plush, lol. It's just cute to me. I'm so sorry about Peanut. She would have been a good baby companion, and I'm sure she's still happy for you. Congratulations on the little girl! It's so awesome that you got like a real miracle baby, haha.
Congratulations!! There’s a lot of comments on here wondering how much pregnancy/birth costs in total in Japan; basically, it’s very dependant on where you live (your prefecture/city) and also what type of clinic or hospital you choose to give birth at. I got pregnant and gave birth in Japan in Aug 2020 and paid a total of around 200,000JPY. Most checkups are entirely covered after 20 weeks, and I only had to pay out of pocket because I decided to give birth at a birthing centre with a private room that wasn’t entirely covered by the 420,000yen government payment. I LOVED all my prenatal and postnatal care, the week-long, catered, hospital stay after giving birth (naturally without any pain relief as is the way here lol) and all the check ups. 10/10 would give birth again in Japan rather than Australia (where I’m originally from).
My personal condolences for your loss of Peanuts. Loosing a pet is not easy. Congratulations 🎉 on becoming pregnant and my your baby 🚼 girl be happy, healthy, and injury free for all her long life.
Congratulations once again! I wish you all well on this new journey! And I'm sorry to hear about Peanut. Hopefully you now have a little guardian for you sweet girl! 💜
You might know this already, but the dizzy is normal. Your blood vessels are larger to accommodate the increased blood flow needed for the baby. As long as you aren't fainting you are fine, but if that starts definitely mention that to your doctor. I was also dizzy and fainting a lot during my second pregnancy and it turned out that the baby was developing in a bad spot for me as it was limiting the blood flow in my entire body. This meant that I was extremely tired and fainting a lot. So take care and rest a lot while you can!
super happy for your healthy baby. It is so awesome to here about the pregnancy reveal from your family. happy that they are also so overjoyed for you. Your Dad's reaction is the cutest! Have a feeling he is going to get a bit more sentimental after this point. also why no pregnancy included in health insurance and to make it a whole chore and a half to register and get everything you need. The heck man? So happy for you and Mike and cant wait to see what food addictions you have acquired also condolences for your sweet Peanut.
Ahhh congrats! My wife and I are also having our first baby and shes due in 2 weeks! We've been dying to get our hands on the Monpoke merch but we probably wont be visitin Japan any time soon.
Congratulations again Reina! Thank you for sharing so many details about your journey and making this so accessible for others to understand. Maybe sometime you can meet our little ones!
Morning sickness was terrible for me. Having to go to work sucked! It was exactly how you explained it. 😵 But I’m so glad it only lasted 2 months. A lot of people around me had it til they gave birth…can’t even imagine.
Congratulations you guys!!! I’m so happy for you guys!!! I have a daughter as well but she’s already 13! Time will fly before you know it but you’ll make so many memories! 💕
Congratulations, so glad the baby is super ok and low risk across the board. My gut was telling me that it's a girl and for once it was right, you're gonna be wonderful parents, you got this 👏
I’m so happy for you guys!!! I’m also very fascinated to see what being pregnant in Japan is like. So I hope for some updates if you’re feeling up to it! Again, congrats. 🥺🥰

Congratulations to the both of you! I hope everything goes smoothly from here on out :)
レイナさん、おめでとうございます! I was born Nov 7th, so welcome to the new November baby!
First off - congrats ♥
I've had 2 kids and both pregnancies were vastly different from each other.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I'm so unbelievably happy for you and Mike, you are both such lovely human beings and your babe is gonna be SO loved!!
The pink RU outfit!! Ahhh that is so cute 🥰
I had my baby in Japan too. I’m pretty sure that insurance covers the childbirth and hospitalization costs. You do have to pay up front(when you are discharged) and then you will be reimbursed. At the time the amount reimbursed was up to ¥300,000
I love seeing the baby badge, it always puts a smile on my face. I’m always on the lookout to give up my seat to expectant Mom’s.
That’s so sweet of you 😭💛 a lot of people don’t actually care!
This parasocial relationship w you got me in tears that you’re looking at a healthy lil girl. So happy for you and your family.❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations guys, this baby is gonna be a super cool person with you as parents ❤️
congrats, my old friend. i am so happy for you that i am actually crying tears of joy and i'm not the one pregnant here. lol. congrats to you and mike both, i will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. sending you both love as well. take care, stay safe and god bless to you and yours.
Oh I’m so excited for you guy’s!! 🥰🥰 I’m so excited to keep up with your journey! I hope the pregnancy symptoms aren’t too rough on you and you all stay healthy and happy 😃❤️🙏🏻
Congratulations for the pregnancy
thank youuuu!
Glad that you crushed the first trimester Reina! Happy that you guys are having a healthy baby!
I'm so excited!! Stay healthy!
Two points of concern are:
1: Having a fever during early pregnancy could increase the risk of issues with baby development, so keep a close eye on your child's development.
YAAAAY! 🥰
Also, my wife and I fought about the gender reveal. I was 110% against finding out gender until the birth. She was 1,000,000% in favour of finding out the gender ASAP. Clearly I lost that battle. 🤣
However, in my defence against the biggest argument for learning the gender (you need to know for clothing colours and decorating), they grow out of their first clothes in only about 2-3 months anyways, so the initial neutral colours wouldn’t last too long… and you can always easily add onto decorations to incorporate appropriate colours.
I’d still want to leave gender discovery for the actual birth. With modern life there just aren’t enough genuine surprises left anymore. Maybe I’m just crazy like that. 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Congratulations! Having a child is life changing and I wish you and your family the best.
Aww thank you for sharing and sending awesome vibes for ur . Just got me with the baby fever 🫣. Enjoy
Congratulations!! Hoping the rest of your pregnancy is smooth sailing, and that you and Mike enjoy this crazy, special time together!
Happy family! Also congrats to Mike getting his 3 year card!
I’m so happy and excited for the both of you!! I loved this video so much, and I can’t wait to see more. 🥰❤️
Omedetou gozaimasu Reina and Mike! My sister is due in September and I'm so excited to be an uncle. This video made me so much more excited for her, and your journey as well. I hope your pregnancy continues to go well and your little baby girl comes into this world happy and healthy❤️
So we're childfree by choice, and I'm not usually interested in pregnancy videos or kids in general (apart from friends & families little ones), but I'm so happy for you guys and kinda invested in your journey, so here I am ❤ Sending much love & well wishes from the UK xoxo
ETA - I'm so sorry about Peanut 💔 You were amazing cat parents & she'll be watching over you and the baby until you meet again ❤❤❤
Wow thank you! Your comment (especially about Peanut 🥹) was so sweet and thoughtful 💛 my hormone drowned brain is getting emotional 😭 thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment!
@@reinascully Awww you're welcome Sweetpea ❤❤❤
Congrats! You look so happy and healthy and I hope your pregnancy journey goes smoothly!
We have green notes in the UK which have all our visits in and baby details etc which sounds similar to your book
Congratulations to the both of you! She will be lucky to have cool parents like you! ❤️
So happy for you guys, I bet she's going to be an adorable addition to your family. Wish you all the best and I hope that you will all have many blessed years to come.
Congratulations Reina!!! 🥰🥰🥰
The little bear hat looks so adorable.
Very happy for you and Mike. I hope the rest of the pregnancy goes smoothly!
I love the strong emotions about the tag lolol 😂
You might know this already, but the dizzy is normal. Your blood vessels are larger to accommodate the increased blood flow needed for the baby. As long as you aren't fainting you are fine, but if that starts definitely mention that to your doctor. I was also dizzy and fainting a lot during my second pregnancy and it turned out that the baby was developing in a bad spot for me as it was limiting the blood flow in my entire body. This meant that I was extremely tired and fainting a lot. So take care and rest a lot while you can!
I am so excited for you and your family! Thank you for sharing your story!
🥰💛 thank you so much~!
Congratulations Reina and Mike on your baby girl coming soon.
aww congratulations reina!!
super happy for your healthy baby.
So happy for you and Mike and cant wait to see what food addictions you have acquired
also condolences for your sweet Peanut.
congraaaats
Ahhh congrats! My wife and I are also having our first baby and shes due in 2 weeks! We've been dying to get our hands on the Monpoke merch but we probably wont be visitin Japan any time soon.
Thank you for sharing. My wife is 7 weeks and we are doing IVF. We’re in Canada and thinking of going back to live in Japan one day.
Congratulations!! That must be so much to endure, your wife’s a champ 💛🥰
Congratulations again Reina! Thank you for sharing so many details about your journey and making this so accessible for others to understand.
Maybe sometime you can meet our little ones!
Tearing up 😭 so happy for you Reina 💜💜💜💜
Morning sickness was terrible for me. Having to go to work sucked! It was exactly how you explained it. 😵 But I’m so glad it only lasted 2 months. A lot of people around me had it til they gave birth…can’t even imagine.
Really glad to hear you and the baby are in good health.
Congratulations you guys!!! I’m so happy for you guys!!! I have a daughter as well but she’s already 13! Time will fly before you know it but you’ll make so many memories! 💕
Congratulations, so glad the baby is super ok and low risk across the board. My gut was telling me that it's a girl and for once it was right, you're gonna be wonderful parents, you got this 👏
loved seeing your journey so far, so excited for y'all! The little outfit is so cute!
Congratz Reina! I'm also due in November. So its nice to see someone go through the same thing at the same time. ^_^

I'm happy that you get to go on this journey. You don't realize how much more you can love someone until a baby comes into your life.
RIP Peanut.
