      Maybe they thought it was faster to install it that way. You can hold it up by the cross piece and not let the "legs" get crushed, or something.

    My wife loves Gyruss, so while visiting my daughter I play this video on the big screen. My daughter and her husband (both in their 30's) were cracking up. They loved Joe's humor, and they love video games. So much they went to lyons arcade website and was looking at all the games you have. Iris got excited when she read "We deliver" I told her I didn't think they would deliver to Indiana. Anyway just wanted to tell you how much everyone enjoyed watching. Biggest laugh was leaving the screw in the cabinet, right there. Don't leave me forget where it is. 😂 Magic dust, are you excited?

    I have always loved the music for this game. It is so fitting. Here is the information regarding the music that I obtained from Wikipedia.
    The game's background music is an electronic, uptempo arrangement of J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565; this particular track is similar to "Toccata", a rock arrangement by the UK-based instrumentalist group Sky. Gyruss uses stereo sound, which according to the bonus material for Konami Arcade Classics, was achieved by utilizing discrete audio circuits.
    The audio system consists of five 3-voice General Instrument AY-3-8910A sound chips.

    Thanks for the video, Joe! I remember Gyruss as the game that sort of reminds of Tempest because of the unique viewpoint, although I don't recall if the two arcades I used to go to had a machine or not. I do like the music on it. I always enjoyed those games that you could hear and recognize just by the sounds.

    Gyruss is a classic game! I even still possess a copy of the game for Colecovision. It was definitely one of my favorite games to play when it was released back in 1983. It must have been the summer of '83, maybe '84, but I'm going with '83 when I spent a summer in Arizona with my grandparents. It was during that summer that we went to have pizza at a Pistol Pete's Pizza, and after ordering our pies, my friend and I would receive some quarters from my grandparents, so we could play some arcade video games while waiting for our food to arrive. Lo, and behold, they had a single Gyruss machine isolated in a small room with speakers hanging up in the corners of the room, with the volume cranked up. Now, that was the way to play Gyruss in an arcade back then!!!

    • @ThinkerOnTheBus
      @ThinkerOnTheBus Před měsícem

      Unfortunately, it has been such a long time since I last played Gyruss that until the end of the video where you are playing the game, and you mentioned something about a challenge stage that I had completely forgotten about the challenge levels in Gyruss. Truly a classic!

    Amiga was when they were trying to get into the real computer market.
    IBM and the Clones when the 286s came out, that was the turning point.
    For a while Radio Shack had IBM compatible 386 machines and I remember when they sold actual IBMs, the first Pentiums, 60 mhz and they were really expensive. 2000 dollars.
    That was the last that RS was selling computers
    The Internet made it so easy to buy computer parts and CompUSA also did RS in.
    It just blows my mind how these huge cabinets with all the boards and power supply now can run off a tiny board not much higger that 4 stamps.
    Just incredible

    You can always tell this game, double dragon and pole position are in an arcade due to their attract music/SFX. Such a great game Gyruss - put many a coin into it as a kid flying back to earth! Sadly the arcade machines in the local pubs have gone the way of the dodo - either not cared for (Getaway High Speed II pinball with blockage on inner RPM loop), or replaced with gambling dens full of poker machines as they make more profit for the pub than a pinny or arcade cab. Two machines I did see in good condition were a Fish Tales and Elvira. Both were two states away in Tasmania (I live in Sydney, Australia), so it was a nice surprise to play some pinball while on holidays! Even the few arcades here a full of kiddie gambling games like key master etc.
