  • 3rd visit to Truro station and 1st trip to Cornwall in over 2 years since August 2019 featuring services by Great Western Railway not just on the Cornish Main Line but also services on the Falmouth Line or Maritime Line to and from Falmouth Docks as well.
Truro station was first opened in 1859 by the Cornwall Railway when it was extended down from Plymouth.
The Falmouth Line or locally known as the Maritime Line was opened to Falmouth docks 3 years later in 1862
Since 2009 all Falmouth services today are half hourly service Monday’s - Saturdays and hourly on Sundays formed of Class 150/2s and occasionally 2 car Class 158s.
To enable the Falmouth to operate hourly a new loop at Penwyn was added however in practice for it to work effectively the turnaround times at either end whether it's Truro or Falmouth Docks are an average of approximately 4 minutes.
Services via Platforms 2 and 3 to and from Penzance provided by local stopping services from Plymouth, Exeter St Davids as well as Cardiff Central served by Class 150s, 158s and Castle HSTs.
The Class 800 and 802 IETs began running in August 2018 which nowadays now provides the long distance services from London Paddington which took over from the HSTs on May 18th 2019 although train formation can differ from 5 cars to 9 cars or even 10 car sets respectively.
Although parts of the Cornish Main Line have been resignalled in recent years however at the time of filming the old original semaphore signalling is still in operation being controlled via the signal box just across the level crossing on the front end of Platform 3.
