  • What is the best birthing position to prevent tearing? It’s a question that many pregnant women are concerned about because almost every woman is afraid of tearing during childbirth.
So, in this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy & Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Researcher and Science Geek, discuss the best birthing position to prevent tearing. In particular, they compare upright and horizontal birthing positions and explain why there is no clear scientific evidence as to which group of birthing positions is superior to the other group when it comes to reducing the risk of tearing.
Moreover, they explain why - apart from tearing - there are also other factors which play a role when it comes to choosing the right birthing position. Finally, they explain what exactly you need to consider when choosing the right birthing position to reduce the risk of tearing. And they also explain why the best time to reduce the risk of tearing is not during childbirth but during the weeks before you go into labor.

Thanks so much for watching! 😊 With this video, we want to share with you some thoughts on how to choose the right birthing position if you want to reduce the risk of tearing. In particular, we want to explain why it is important not to fixate on one particular birthing position so that you have the best possible birthing experience!

What a great conclusion. I thought I would end up kneeling, but I knew I should be open to whatever my body told me to do. I ended up side lying, but did still have tears on the labia minora (although I think I have a pelvic tilt which may have influenced that).
I think it's important for women to know about the benefits and risks of each position, but to generally keep an open mind and listen to their body because for most normal and healthy pregnancies the woman's body knows best.

Please do a video on breastfeeding positions and deep latching techniques. Still for many new moms its nightmare... including me

      Hi there! 😊
Thanks a lot for your input!! ❤️
To be honest with you, we tried to do a video about correct breastfeeding already several times. But we always end up not recording it. And the reason is that breastfeeding tips should really be based on each individual case. The problem is that we could only produce a video with general statements about breastfeeding, but this may not help a woman with her individual needs.
The other thing is: we cannot find a woman with a newborn who is willing to demonstrate correct latching etc. for us on youtube (understandably). And we think this is really important if we want to produce a helpful video on breastfeeding...
So, at the moment, we don't know how we can produce a helpful video about breastfeeding (although we would love to record one). So, all we currently do is recommend women talking to a breastfeeding consultant. Because the advantage here is that a breastfeeding consultant can look at each individual case and then provide help.
We are very sorry that we cannot be a better help at the moment! ❤️

Hello ! Giving all this informations and studies that shows upright positions are the best..why are still hospitals and doctors that simply dont follow this new good discovery for women? For what are made those studies if they dont use its 😕 i really dont want to give birth lying on my back but we're forced

      Hi there! ❤️
Yes, unfortunately, from what we can see, this very much depends on the country and hospital. For example, we have read that in China, back lying positions are still the number 1 birthing position while in France, for instance, the preferred way is a kneeling position.
It would really be ideal if women could choose themselves! This is how it should be! It's their body, their delivery and their decision!
All the best for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there 😊,
this IS possible, but not required (we normally start with this in week 35). Just get the approval of your doctor first (particularly in case there are infections etc.) And please make sure that you use a ph-neutral lubricant such as olive oil!
      Thank you!
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️
