      @kazaakas Před rokem +1

      Totally. Proper backlight strobing is a big reason why I still feel restrained to invest in a monitor. It makes such a massive difference.
      I truly believe manufacturers can come up with some smart mechanism to have good looking backlight strobing at the same time as adaptive sync. It's just a matter of whether they see customer demand for this. I hope eventually they will, as backlight strobing makes motion so much better.

    If and when these Coolor Master HDR monitors receive their promised firmware udpates, I would love to see a follow up that addresses how these changes affect your opinions. My hope is that the update will allow proper HDR + VRR, a proper HDR auto mode, and better color control. If those are fixed this will absolutely be my next monitor! While I would obviously love more dimming zones, I don't want to pay $1000+ for a monitor

      @dariomladenovski7047 Před rokem

    • @Hobbles_
      @Hobbles_ Před rokem

      @@FatheredPuma81 As stated in the review, the HDR setting in the OSD for the monitor only has the options of "Off" and "Auto". But rather than what you would expect, where it only goes into HDR mode when HDR content is trying to be displayed, it just tries to put everything in HDR all the time. This results in SDR content not looking correct, meaning that unless you're fine with that issue, you will have to manually switch between modes all the time. That is very frustrating, and should not be the case.

    • @Hobbles_
      @Hobbles_ Před rokem

      @@dariomladenovski7047 While this is true to an extent, fewer zones simply cannot provide as much granular control and detail as more zones, all else being equal. I have purchased the cooler master GP27q and the firmware update as of the 7/12/22 has enabled VRR and HDR and local dimming to work all together the only bug is at 165 Hz colour banding is slighlty noticeable this is resolved by dropping to 144hz and this has already been mentioned by others and by me on the reddit post with coolermaster replying that they are now aware and will fix in future firmware update. Overall The monitor is brilliant with VRR and HDR all working it is brilliant hopefully cooler master will resolve HDR colour banding at 165 hz but running at 144hz there isnt any banding that i can notice and i dont notice any percetible diffrence in smoothness of animations or any perceptible difference in FPS gaming I still suck at 144 or 165hz lol. FALD worked both in HDR and SDR, HDR worked perfectly with G-Sync, no flickering and variable overdrive in all situations, good color performance with an sRGB mode that didn't lock you out of other options and low glow panels made them quite impressive and still today everything is pretty much a sidegrade at best.

    Are you going to review the AW3423DWF? I've been eyeing this monitor and saw many positive reviews on it but I'm waiting for your review. Mainly want to know if they improved the processing lag from the non F. I thought it may have been the g-sync module causing it to be unusually high and was a big reason I decided to skip the non F version.

    Would it be possible/legal for you to release the files needed for calibration for the srgb color gamut? I know it technically is different for every monitor but these tempest monitors appear to have all the same bad red channel compression

    As I either program or game, but never watch media, on my monitors, a monitor that can't use HDR with VRR effectively doesn't have HDR :(
    Any plans to review any future firmware changes?
    (I don't know enough to know if such a firmware change could mess with other performance characteristics...)

    I just wish this monitor came with a decent remote control, like the BenQ Morbious range. With so many settings available, clunky around the back controls aren't quick and easy to switch between, and need a basic control interface.

    Ever since I got a monitor that support variable frame time I've just kept it at that. Using a fixed refresh rate haven't even occurred to me in a long time. This makes me wonder why things like back light strobing still is exclusively available for fixed refresh rates even on most new monitors released today. These features could just as well not be there at all as far as I am concerned as I won't be disabling FreeSync just to enable something like that. To me the variable refresh rate means I no longer care much about what exact framerate I get in games as long as it's at least 60 Hz. The monitor will sync far below that but I try to make sure the framerate doesn't go below 90 Hz in average, and if it dipps to the 60 Hz range to often I will adjust the graphics settings to address that. But other than that I simply don't care much about the exact framerate.
    When using a fixed framerate monitor I have to be a lot more careful with the graphics settings as any dip below the refresh rate will result in ugly stutter as I can't stand gaming at fixed refresh without VSync. Tearing just give me head ache, so VSync on is a necessity when using fixed frame rate. For some games I used to go as far as limiting games to run at half the refresh rate and turn on VSync. This lead to horrible frame rate but at least there were no stutter or tearing which was more important for me. These are reasons I won't switch FreeSync off just to enable things like Backlight Strobing or HDR.

    I really wish reviewers would stop encouraging manufacturers to spend unnecessary budget on monitor backs, encourage them to make plain flat cheap black or white plastic no one looks at the back of the monitors! Let them spend the budget on better screen tech or better OSD, better BFI, or just pass on the savings of unnecessary, wasteful back product design onto us with cheaper products. I mean yeha 500 is very cheap but it could have been 450 if it didn't have those wasteful and unsolicited lights on the back. Maybe 400 if the injection molding for the plastic was simpler and cheaper. Imagine if they the offered a SKU without a stand for 50 less again, that's 350 for a great monitor, that's mind-blowing.
    Only thing that's justifiable on the back of a monitor is something like the Philips ambilight thing. Even so, just offering a separate kit for that only to those who want it is still best but I wouldn't mind paying extra for that. To my knowledge Philips holds patents on that so other manufacturers can't do a similar thing so yeah, just plain cheap plastic, no complicated designs, no expensive injection molding, no pointless lights that avoid you from having a true dark room for best content consumption. thank you! very much

    To be fair, you don't really need any adaptive sync or vrr on a 165hz monitor. It's not like you can notice any tearing when it refreshes so quickly. So it is not a deal breaker for sure.

    Iirc this panel is the same as the AOC varients which Tim has mentioned in other vids but not reviewed. This is down to lack of genuine availablity, though it is generally available in Europe (incl UK) as of 18 Nov 2022. Reviews of this monitor and the 4K varient mention the exact same issue as Tim has laid out for the Cooler Master varients with those reviews hoping that Cooler Master would be able to solve the firmware issue preventing HDR and VRR working together.
    Let's hope that the price tag itself is enough to shake up the market as currently AOC seem to be dragging their feet with the firmware issues and leaving for third parties to resolve isn't a good look.

    What’s the best option at this price point for 1440p high refresh rate in terms of performance and features? 14ms delay in HDR would make that pretty prohibitive in any kind of shooter games, what types of HDR content would this monitor be good for?
