It looks this man is an expert in "Thallal". He has a special knack to concoct social history . The knai thomman and his people came from Edessa and settled around kodungalloor as per the so called parangi church historians. The so called copper chepped given to these people no body has seen. There is only a summary translation of the same available written in the 17th century available now ! It could be the translation of the Tharissappally chepped only and the Parangi historians and others have mistaken and called it to be some other chepped and later on other historans linked it with legend of Knai thoman migration. If at all that legend has an iota of truth, then how can you link the Kundara "Panikkars" and the Kallada/ Kollam "Muthalalis" and the "Tharakans" with these people. So there is something fishy about these Knanaya legend itself. The Muthalalis were the custodians of weights and measures at Kollam and were given the privilege to collect taxes by the Venad rulers. Because of these privileges they were given the title of Muthalalis by the local Venad rulers . Now what has these Kollam Nazranies to do with the Knanaya community ? Or indirectly is he trying to say that they both are the same people as mentioned by the Church of the East bishop in his letter to the Portugese King when he was complaining about the attack by the Moors or the muslims in Kodungalloor. The chepped and the 72 privileges etc which this community is talking about is the same as those given to the Kollam Nazranies. There was a migration to Kollam from Nineveh in Mesopotamia in 823 AD and they were given the copper cheppeds in 849 AD also known as the Tharissappally chepped by the local king of Venad which is still preserved. This Kollam community of "Nasranis" started the "Kollavarsham" in commemoration of the construction of the Tharissappally church at Thevally ( which came from Thevar Pally) on 17th August 825 AD. These "Kollam Nasranis" were Judeo- Arameans and they were given 72 privileges etc. But the exact date of arrival of Knai thomman and his people is still not settled. The most likely date could be kollavarsham 345 and not 345 AD as is wrongly speculated which means their arrival date to Kodungalloor would be 825+345 = 1170 AD ! This makes sense. As it is told that a group from the Kollam Nazranies migrated internally to Kodungalloor in the 12th century and settled down there and there called as Thekkumbhagar as they came from the south of Kodungalloor . They practiced endogamy as against the Nestorian christians who migrated from Mylapore to Kodungalloor around that time and were called as Vadakkumbhagar. This nestorian merchant Thoma or Thomas may have visited Mylapore in Chennai from Kodungalloor and would have got killed there and his body shifted to Edessa later on thinking that he is a bishop from there. Now you know the origin of the St. Thomas legend and its Mylapore connection. That is also the origin of the Kerala St. Thomas Christian myth started by the parangi and later on the syro- malabar historians !

There is no proof or historical evidence that substantiate St. Thomas visited India. He brought no liturgy. It was Church of East headquatered at seleucia- ctesiphon (Nesthorian church) that Evangelized india around 4th or 5th century. It was their liturgy (of Mar Mari and Mar Addai) that was being used by faithfuls in india till 15th century. And Church of east is a nesthorian church who revere and regard mother mary as mother of christ . Then portuguese catholics came(jesuits) and forcebly and by using financial means converted these faithfuls of nesthorian church into people of catholic church . This was how syro malabar church came into existence.During the same time parent church of this indian nesthorian church which was headquareted in selucia teziphone in iraq was divided by the malicious activities of franciscan missionries of catholic church in order to bring this church under pope. Mappila came from the old malayalam or tamil word for "son-in-law ", a derogatory ( or insulting) word for muslim merchants who came from the middle east and entered into a short term marital relationship with the local women ( for the duration of the time they stayed in Kerala till the monsoon winds were favorable for their return trip !) Later on, the same term was used for the Christian traders also who came from the same middle east and did the same practice in the Travancore region. The offsprings of these temporary wedlock were the early christians of Kerala. They are not the ones converted by St. Thomas as St. Thomas never came to Kerala.

Dr. Jacob, as on many occasions create confusion. His statement about the 72 Rights to the Syrian (Mar Thoma) Christians were granted to Mar Sabor and Mar (A)Froth during AD840.They landed st Kollam in 823,and subsequently enabled the then ruler Ayyanadikal Thiruvadikal to start the Malayalam Era, Kolla Varsham in AD 825. Dr Jacob should spend some more time to make up for his lapses.
Mar Sabore and Mar Aphroth, the two bishops who came from Nineveh on 19th May 823 AD( this can be inferred from the Nineveh Cross and wrongly called as St. Thomas Cross in which the name of the bishop Aphroth is mentioned ) started the Tharisappally church in Kollam on 17th August 825 AD. This church got destroyed and is no more in existence. I hope it will be rebuilt sometime in honour of these two bishops who are buried at the Synodal church( Mar Aphroth) at Udayamperoor ( now with the Syro-malabar church) and the Angamaly church ( where Mar Sabore is buried)which they have started along with several other churches in the Travancore region starting from Kollam to Kunnamkulam. The first Villarvattom king was anointed by these two bishops with their head quarters at Chendamangalam from the one of the families whi migrated to Kodungalloor from Kollam. Another member of another family was ordained as a bishop before their passing away. These two familes continued their tradition for several centuries thereafter The Nazrani Era or Kollavarsham was started on 17th August 825 AD to commemorate the building of the Tharissappally church. The migrant christian community under the merchant leader Marwan Sapir Iso along with the above two bishops settled down initially at Thevally near Ashtamudi lake not very far from the Kollam sea shore where they landed. The Tharissappally church was built in Thevally. Thevally itself got the name from the shortened form of "Thevar Pally " - The place where the building for the worship of "GOD" is situated . Later on in 849 AD, they were given the Kollam Nazrani copper plates or the Tharissappally copper plates by the Venad ruler Ayyan adigal Thiruvadigal during the 5th reginal year of the Chera Kingdom Sthanu Ravi Varma which are still preserved. After few centuries, they migrated to Kallada, Kundara, Thevalakkara and other regions and settled down. The merchant leader Marwan sapir Iso is buried in the Thevalakkara Marthmariam orthodox church and the local Christians venerate him as Mar Abo. They mistake him for the bishop Mar Sabore because of the similarity in the names ! They have also cooked up another story surrounding the Kadamattath Kathanar and Mar Sabore sadly and has promoted the same. There is a connection between the merchant leader Marwan sapir Iso who taught Astronomy to that young boy who later became ordained as a priest by Mar Sabore. On the other hand, Marwan Sapir Iso was an expert in Astronomy as it was required for sea navigation in those days. Unfortunately Astronomy and astrology are intermixed in Kerala those days and hence all those twists in these old grandma stories floating around !

It is very unfortunate to hear this kind of information from an important retired civil servant. First he said that the history of Knai Thoma not known and have to be studied, then he is so sure of Thoma as if he has known him. There isn’t any scientific evidence or historical proofs of Knai Thoma or St. Thomas. Of course Arabs and Syrians had trade with Hindu from time immemorial. No body has shown any evidence or proofs as to Archeological Society. This is to please ignorant faithfuls. .
He himself has told that there are about 72 credible books referring to knanaya. So first research a tenth of actual historians before you start questioning. Because of these privileges they were given the title of Muthalalis by the local Venad rulers . Now what has these Kollam Nazranies to do with the Knanaya community ? Or indirectly is he trying to say that they both are the same people as mentioned by the Church of the East bishop in his letter to the Portugese King when he was complaining about the attack by the Moors or the muslims in Kodungalloor. The chepped and the 72 privileges etc which this community is talking about is the same as those given to the Kollam Nazranies. There was a migration to Kollam from Nineveh in Mesopotamia in 823 AD and they were given the copper cheppeds in 849 AD also known as the Tharissappally chepped by the local king of Venad which is still preserved. This Kollam community of "Nasranis" started the "Kollavarsham" in commemoration of the construction of the Tharissappally church at Thevally ( which came from Thevar Pally) on 17th August 825 AD. These "Kollam Nasranis" were Judeo- Arameans and they were given 72 privileges etc. But the exact date of arrival of Knai thomman and his people is still not settled. The most likely date could be kollavarsham 345 and not 345 AD as is wrongly speculated which means their arrival date to Kodungalloor would be 825+345 = 1170 AD ! This makes sense. As it is told that a group from the Kollam Nazranies migrated internally to Kodungalloor in the 12th century and settled down there and there called as Thekkumbhagar as they came from the south of Kodungalloor . They practiced endogamy as against the Nestorian christians who migrated from Mylapore to Kodungalloor around that time and were called as Vadakkumbhagar. This nestorian merchant Thoma or Thomas may have visited Mylapore in Chennai from Kodungalloor and would have got killed there and his body shifted to Edessa later on thinking that he is a bishop from there. Now you know the origin of the St. Thomas legend and its Mylapore connection. That is also the origin of the Kerala St. Thomas Christian myth started by the parangi and later on the syro- malabar historians !

There is no proof or historical evidence that substantiate St. Thomas visited India. He brought no liturgy. It was Church of East headquatered at seleucia- ctesiphon (Nesthorian church) that Evangelized india around 4th or 5th century. It was their liturgy (of Mar Mari and Mar Addai) that was being used by faithfuls in india till 15th century. And Church of east is a nesthorian church who revere and regard mother mary as mother of christ . Then portuguese catholics came(jesuits) and forcebly and by using financial means converted these faithfuls of nesthorian church into people of catholic church . This was how syro malabar church came into existence.During the same time parent church of this indian nesthorian church which was headquareted in selucia teziphone in iraq was divided by the malicious activities of franciscan missionries of catholic church in order to bring this church under pope.

Mappila came from the old malayalam or tamil word for "son-in-law ", a derogatory ( or insulting) word for muslim merchants who came from the middle east and entered into a short term marital relationship with the local women ( for the duration of the time they stayed in Kerala till the monsoon winds were favorable for their return trip !) Later on, the same term was used for the Christian traders also who came from the same middle east and did the same practice in the Travancore region. The offsprings of these temporary wedlock were the early christians of Kerala. They are not the ones converted by St. Thomas as St. Thomas never came to Kerala.

Dr. Jacob, as on many occasions create confusion. His statement about the 72 Rights to the Syrian (Mar Thoma) Christians were granted to Mar Sabor and Mar (A)Froth during AD840.They landed st Kollam in 823,and subsequently enabled the then ruler Ayyanadikal Thiruvadikal to start the Malayalam Era, Kolla Varsham in AD 825.

Mar Sabore and Mar Aphroth, the two bishops who came from Nineveh on 19th May 823 AD( this can be inferred from the Nineveh Cross and wrongly called as St. Thomas Cross in which the name of the bishop Aphroth is mentioned ) started the Tharisappally church in Kollam on 17th August 825 AD. This church got destroyed and is no more in existence. I hope it will be rebuilt sometime in honour of these two bishops who are buried at the Synodal church( Mar Aphroth) at Udayamperoor ( now with the Syro-malabar church) and the Angamaly church ( where Mar Sabore is buried)which they have started along with several other churches in the Travancore region starting from Kollam to Kunnamkulam. The first Villarvattom king was anointed by these two bishops with their head quarters at Chendamangalam from the one of the families whi migrated to Kodungalloor from Kollam. Another member of another family was ordained as a bishop before their passing away. These two familes continued their tradition for several centuries thereafter The Nazrani Era or Kollavarsham was started on 17th August 825 AD to commemorate the building of the Tharissappally church. The migrant christian community under the merchant leader Marwan Sapir Iso along with the above two bishops settled down initially at Thevally near Ashtamudi lake not very far from the Kollam sea shore where they landed. The Tharissappally church was built in Thevally. Thevally itself got the name from the shortened form of "Thevar Pally " - The place where the building for the worship of "GOD" is situated . Later on in 849 AD, they were given the Kollam Nazrani copper plates or the Tharissappally copper plates by the Venad ruler Ayyan adigal Thiruvadigal during the 5th reginal year of the Chera Kingdom Sthanu Ravi Varma which are still preserved. After few centuries, they migrated to Kallada, Kundara, Thevalakkara and other regions and settled down. The merchant leader Marwan sapir Iso is buried in the Thevalakkara Marthmariam orthodox church and the local Christians venerate him as Mar Abo. They mistake him for the bishop Mar Sabore because of the similarity in the names ! They have also cooked up another story surrounding the Kadamattath Kathanar and Mar Sabore sadly and has promoted the same. There is a connection between the merchant leader Marwan sapir Iso who taught Astronomy to that young boy who later became ordained as a priest by Mar Sabore. On the other hand, Marwan Sapir Iso was an expert in Astronomy as it was required for sea navigation in those days. Unfortunately Astronomy and astrology are intermixed in Kerala those days and hence all those twists in these old grandma stories floating around !
