I just found out that Doris Akers was my great Aunt. My father called me and told me that she was his aunt and I found her music and have been listening to it all day and brought tears to my eyes. I am so proud to be an Akers.
I just discovered your Aunt about a month ago and I have been inspired by her heartfelt singing. She has another song put up by David Ruff called, "I cannot fail the Lord. I heard it twice and the Holy Ghost fell on me. That song has a powerful anointing on it. I listen to all her music now. She reminded me of my mother and I just miss her so. God bless you.

I sang with the Sky Piolet Choir under the direction of Doris Akers. Aunt Doe as we called her. It was a wonderful experience one that I will never forget. Billy Preston was our organ player he was just a kid but he could sure play. Also Ethel Waters would come to our services at 89th and Western. I was there the night that she composed Sweet Sweet Spirit. We were having our prayer in the choir room before going in to sing and we had such a out pouring of the Holy Spirit we were really late going into the church. I loved Aunt Doe I miss her to this day. I know she is still singing with that powerful voice with the angels and is having the best prayer meeting ever. Love you, Aunt Doe.

It's difficult to choose just one song. She wrote so many. Songs come to my mind as they meet my situation. I think the ones that speak to me most often are "I can not fail the Lord" and "lead me, guide me". But again it depends on what message I need at the time or what my soul needs to communicate. Lately it's been her arrangement of the Lord's prayer, but I don't think many people have heard it.

My Dearest Sister when I first Heard Sister Aker I was a seven yr old girl listening to the radio on Randy out of Nashville I thank it would always come over statically but turning that RCA box to the right 👍 it came across truly audible. My Lord from the time I heard her I've never forgotten my soul even at that time was caught on fire. I was listening to a song that Aretha sang as a child and.heard Doris sang the same song and liked Both versions I would sang and intertwined them and make it my own. When I closed my eyes I began to travel it looked like a place for in the clouds but I began to hear singing and it sounded so beautiful as I opened my eyes I was lying on the floor and as I closed my eyes I began to be in the clouds and I kept hearing the song that was song. Finally I went to sleep. When I awaken I took a pencil and wrote down the lyrics and I still can remember the whole song. I felt that the angel was singing the song. Why I'm saying this to you maybe because Doris Akers was someone whom I know was chosen to bring this type of music for us to get closer to the Lord.

Yup. For years we didn't have a stereo. But we did have a big speaker that my dad built from scratch and I'd load up a stack of records and lay on the rug and listen. My favorite Sky Pilot song was Sweet Jesus... It has a chord progression midway that's so fancy your friends will think you know what you're doing...😂
