First time ever at a Metallica show. (I’m 22) Most awesome concert I’ve ever seen in my life.
welcome to the family!
It was my first time too! It was epic 🤟
Welcome to the Metallica family!
I've seen them 4 times now. Each time have been awesome.
Glad you got to experience it.
21 and second time 🤟
First Metallica concert and I was right at the front. Such an insane performance, unforgettable night
First one for me aswell! I was at the very front myself!
How did you get up so close?
I remember 15 years ago I went to see them for the first time, I the feeling was all some
@@WarofThoughts i was up front too, you have to go like a few hours before they come on, preferably like 3 hours before the crowd starts
I'm jealous bruh
Drove 3200 km to attend this show with my teenage sons. Best show I ever attended. Saw them 4 times in the nineties, including the first appearance in the Lollapalooza tour in Quebec in1996. Loved every show I attended, but this one was the best. The guys really had fun and it showed. I love you guys ever since I discovered your music when I was 18, now 35 years ago. Keep going strong.
What's a KM? Jk lol
How many Freedom Miles is 3200km? 😀
Come on, only four times? Have been in jail all those years? Bro, don't abandon kids, meet them more often.
@@vadimgorbatov657 ?
Don't let anybody tell you otherwise, but these men are approaching 60 years old and are still killing it on stage. To play every song by yourself is not an easy task; thus, for you gentlemen to accomplish this in addition to playing all of the other songs in the set, I tip my head to you. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
I just saw them the other day and even more impressive than their playing is James' vocals. James 100% still has his voice.
More punk than any of those bands that present themselves as punk.
I'm sure it blew a lot of kid's minds who were there. Most of the acts there have way less intricate music that's they're not even playing live. This is 100 percent LIVE/100 percent REAL...flaws and all.
The way music should be
Yes, they are absolutely amazing, better then ever. And the 'audacity' to open with Whiplash and Creeping Death at a festival where the majority of the audience were not necessarily metal fans and Dua Lipa was headlining the next day (she is a great artist BTW but a very different style)
Not being in tempo with each other is “killing it”? Lol. Not to mention James sounds awful. Seeing them go through the motion of playing live for a paycheck is far from killing it.
3:32 wow look at Metallica with Chicago’s beautiful skyline. I got chills!!
Home sweet home Chicago
Epic!
James is sounding healthier than ever, Kirk is nailing all the solos, Rob's backing vocals are sounding nutty and Lars has been POPPING lately. Best band out there right now, by far. Proud to call them my favorite.
They are so on point! Sounding better than ever, it was really a pleasure seeing them at this show. What a performance!
Sounding better then ever?….I’m pretty sure they’re past their prime. Sounded way better in the 80’s & 90’s.
@@il94z12 damn, people age with time? What a surprise!
@@il94z12 they'll never match the energy of the mid to late 80s shows but they are playing and performing better than ever technically, and a thousand times better than 20 years ago in every aspect.
@@danielobergfell8538 totally understand and agree. I grew up listening to them because of my parents but I wish I was around in the 80’s to see them live in their prime
James is legit returning to his youthful voice, he keeps getting better and better. This sounded like 89’ James at some points, he’s so awesome.
definitely
Legend
The 2 year lockdowns with no concerts ironically helped a lot of heavy touring bands recuperate I think. I think these older bands realized to take advantage of time they have left
@@manager4409 that’s probably it man, makes sense. So great to see tho
Bought a ticket for Friday, showed up at 730p just for Metallica, got as close as I could and had the time of my life! One of the last thrash metal bands still kicking. Metallica forever 🤘
There is still a hell of a lot of thrash metal bands around. Including a new wave of them. People just don't look for them.
yes sir,the best!!!!dont listen to these other posers crying about something!!glad you enjoyed!!!
Big time thank you to James for the speech during fade to black..been a Metallica fan a long time now all grown up with a grown up job in an emergency room..he’s right, suicide is a real part of life, and have seen first hand the pain it can cause so many..I echo his words to never feel alone and talk to someone if you do..props James well done sir
I was 20 the first time I saw Metallica live. I'm now 51. They still look as awesome as ever 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I am 52 and saw them for the first time in Fab. 1987 in Poland. I got a ticket from my mother for my 17th birthday. It's really great they keep going to be on the stage
I was in my mid 20's the first time i saw them and I love them to this day, I've seen them 4x myself. I've seen Lamb Of God, Megadeth, Slayer, Slipknot, etc. I My oldest son & I LOVE us some good metal and hard rock 😃🤘🏻We see at least 2 good show every year during September which is his birthday month same day and month as Dave Mustaine Sept 13th. 😃🤘🏻
My first Metallica concert. Traveled all the way from the Philippines.
I'm loving this version of James. His voice is back on point, he looks healthy and the energy is ridiculous. Long may it continue - Metallica forever 🤘😈🤘
I’m so glad my mom played this kind of music when I was growing up
Same, my mother is the individual who introduced me to metallica. My all time favorite band. Rip mom
How great do these guys look and sound, and at just a year shy of 60 no less!
Heavy Metal for me is James making a pause on Fade to Black to say "hey, this is about suicide, this is part of life, if you struggle with it, talk to someone, you are not alone"....wow, please, long live James Hetfield, Metallica and Heavy Metal
I'm 41, I'm a fan since I was 14. I've never the good lucky to see them live for many reasons. I can't wait to see them live now in 2024 in Mexico City. I've alreday my tickets. The best band ever!!!
I took my 10 year old to this show and it was easily the best moment of my entire life and a moment my son will never forget! Thank you guys for making a memory that me and my son will cherish forever!
In 1984 I saw these guys for the first time at a small club in Colorado Springs. I was 13 and it was an all ages show. I don’t remember too much about it except it was LOUD and you could tell that they were destined for greatness. But I could never in my life conceive that they’d become the biggest band in the world let alone they’d still be playing almost 40 years later. So proud of them.
Biggest band of the world? I don't know about that
@@kaunaz4443 Seriously though, who is "bigger" right now?
@@jasonbrown9388 Agreed. It’s really all about ticket sales.
I know that on their last European tour, the entire tour sold out literally in minutes and fans were outraged. And all US concerts easily sell out in less than a day. According to Pollstar, the only other music act that sells out faster than Metallica is Taylor Swift. Lol.
@@kaunaz4443 It’s all subjective but my point is I saw these guys at a shit hole nightclub that held maybe 200 people almost 40 years ago and now they sell out stadiums all over the world. The arc of their success is astounding to me. Peace!
@@patton303 I have no doubt their trajectory has been a massive shot to the sky and beyond since the time you saw them. I would see the glory in that too for any band that started in more humble places. This is one of those legacy bands that continues to have a huge oxygen life support from the groundbreaking sounds they made in the past. Like all bands that had their prime during Rock's highest period of popularity, they made nothing particularly great in their newer material. Nothing remains a shining star forever but they continue to live in the hearts of many older and later generations. As to your question there are many other bands I can think of that still draw large audiences and fill arenas/stadiums. For the sake of making it shorter I'll name American bands like: Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Killers, and The Strokes. Keep rocking buddy
This was the most fun I've had in a long time. It was a blast!
Considering how all these old guys’ voices are failing, he still sounds as good as he ever has.
@DEAD GRATEFUL nothing beats 1989 Het. It's like he hit puberty for a second time lol.
That’s just not true, 1985-92 sounds like a different, much better singer. His guitar playing is flawless as ever tho, and seeing as Hetfields rhythm guitar playing is the heart and soul of the band, they still sound great.
@@henrywalton5967 1986-early 1992 were the best years for Metallica live
@DEAD GRATEFUL since the beginning of the Hardwired tour in 2016 his voice has been getting steadily better
Not failing, Aging Like a Fine Wine Garlic Sauce...

Literally the best concert I’ve attended being like 30 ft from the smaller stage in the front! Amazing!!!
What time did you get there?
This was the first Metallica show I've ever been to. Chanting with everyone during creeping death was basically a religious experience
45:05 imagine this solo on the album 🔥🔥
Kirk is one of the best lead guitarists of all time. Period.
I was there and had literal tears in my eyes at times.. it was incredible
Im getting literal tears just watching from my phone :(
This was my 10th time seeing Metallica since 2015 and they still never disappoint. Metallica for life🤘🏻
Lmao, James is a funny guy. @47:44 (referring to Saint Anger) "What are they going to play now? They already played their good song."
Saw this live, yesterday. Seeing James start playing Master of Puppets 30 feet in front of me blew my socks off!
I would have liked to see Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and Leper Messiah but to get Master of Puppets, Fade to Black, Whiplash, Seek and Destroy, One, Creeping Death and Battery, I can't complain.
this video doesn't do justice to how wild the crowd was for the first three songs, at least where i was
Exactly, it was like that where I was too.
Man as a 20 year old I am very lucky and thankful I got to see these guys perform while they’re still able to.
was there. this show was fucking amazing.
What time of the day did it start?
@@Marshmar7 8:15pm local time
Literally no other band from the 80's can play for 2 hours, and sound this fucking good.
Iron Maiden
Lyle Lovett.
Well, technically, Springsteen plays for 3 hours a lot but I don't know anyone that wants to hear even an hour of that shit. And by hour 2, even Springsteen fans are mumbling 'Just play Born to Run so I can get out of here and ride my chair lift back up to my craftmatic adjustable bed and catch the last of the Matlock Marathon on TVLand.' That's a true story.

Best band alive… no cap🔥 nobody comes as close as Metallica to live performances🤘 thank you for posting this, absolutely lovely❤️👍
I like symphony x a good bit, but when it comes to putting on a show Metallica has it sold.
Kirk played the fade to black intro so beautifully 😢
I was never a fan of a metal rock. But seeing this veteran musician now just left me in awe. They definitely have that kind of discipline to be able to stand there, perform and blow the crowd away like they've done before. I'm glad that Stranger Things Eddie Munson/Duffer bros introduced me to rock era of the 80's. My respect goes to this legendary rock metal band!
I just came to this video after I watched their "first ever show in 1983 when they were effectively still children. It just blows my mind that they've been doing this for 40 years and still kicking ass.
Yes sir, and I was seeing them back in the mid to late 80's when they opened shows and no one hardly heard of them. It was before Master(piece) Of Puppets came out. It didn't take long to fall in love with their music, so intense and driven. They were literally the LAST band ever to play on City Island in Harrisburg, PA. Too many people complained about the noise and of course i was there, i live less than an hour away. 😁🤘🏻My ears rang for 3 days, and now decades later I have legit mild hearing loss 🤣 I regret nothing.
We just saw Lamb Of God with KSE in Sept and they were also amazing live. The only thing I EVER need is MORE METAL 😉🤘🏻
Thank you for posting the full show! We all appreciate it!!
Epic show!! Won Snake Pit passes and was front and center! Amazing!!
I had snake pit passes in 92! Good times! However, im almost 50 and prefer being on the first level in front where the seats start. You actually get to see the whole show. Being up front is cool, and everyone should experience it, but you don't get to really see the show at all. It's just cuz every wants to be close to them and feel their energy!
Awesome to see the boys in Chicago we need more shows here metal ain't dead keep it going
Is lollapalooza a pop music festival or are there usually rock bands there too?
@@manager4409 It’s usually pop/rap/indie
No play back, auto tune, 100% real music the best for ever Metallica
In the discussion of great guitarists, you never hear Kirk's name pop up. He's only the lead ax man for the greatest metal band of all....
…And Justice for Hamm
Love Metallica, but if we’re talking about metal in general, then Black Sabbath takes the crown as GOAT. But if we’re talking thrash, then yes Metallica.
Kirk has the most memorable best riffs and solos. Yngwie is more technical but less memorable and less emotional.
I love Kirk. I think he’s on a greatest list but man there’s a massive number of names ahead of him. Maybe top 100, maybe top 75. Don’t get wrong I think he’s great. But there’s a lot of phenomenal guitarists that came before him.
@@Hamer4114 naw, Metallica by a million over Black Sabbath
Previous time I saw them live was New Year’s Eve 1999. It was far too long. They haven’t missed a beat. Epic to see them in Chicago. Absolute legends!
The Pontiac Silverdome show? I was at that show. Ted Nugent and Kid Rock opened.
@@Awlillis151 yes sir! Was an awesome lineup and great way to open Y2K.
Another first timer here. What an experience… part of me can’t believe that was real! Looking forward to seeing them again💪🏼

Metallica is the first video I searched for. My neighbors probably hate me right now. I've had it playing loud af.

1:49:48 Can't lie this growl from James is sick.
Honestly Metallica is one of the few bands that continue to improve with each performance. It amazes me how much they OWN the stage wherever they may roam
james guitar tone on bells HOLY FUCK! one of the heaviest versons ive ever seen them do!
Long time Metallica fan here. These dudes are 60 and still cranking it out at each show. I was lucky enough to see them last September 2021 at the Metro in Chicago (1100 capacity). That was, by far, the greatest concert of my life. Since then, I've thought there's no way I can see another Metallica show again. WRONG, so wrong. I just said they're 60. There's not much time left to see them. Hetfield may end up in rehab again and call it quits. Naysayers, stop the bashing of Metallica, and enjoy what's left of them. I know I'll never see a show as good as the Metro show in Chicago, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't see them again. I'll regret it. You will too.
So jealous, heard about that show the day after. Was honestly depressed I missed it lol.
Best Metallica concert I've been to.
you’re blessed for ever as a band when you are able to open up a concert with these 4 songs and you can proudly say „these are our songs and nobody in this FKN universe can play them better than us“ PERIOD. we‘re talking about Metallica, you better respect this !! AMEN 🤘🤘🤘💥💥💥💥💥👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing this with us all!!!! Very cool!!! Plus it was on my 57th birthday!!!!!!! Love em ever since 1984
Hopefully this opens the eyes to the younger generation. That’s why us boomers love and cherish the old school so much because it required legit musicians and talented songwriters like Metallica in order to put it down. Not some “musician” behind a computer or some whack ass mumble rappers. These are real rock stars. Metal forever! 🤘🏼
Being there, I have never seen such a broad range of generations. People who based on their looks i would never have guessed they would attend Metallica show where there in droves… I had 18-25 year olds all around me screaming for master of puppets. It was wild.

The best thing is the fact that on stage they don't have 46 guitar cabs that don't do anything. And no back tracks. What u hear is what I get. They aren't perfect. They're human. Old humans lol. Love it.

I can remember 30 or more years ago thinking, "These dudes are going to get old, and so am I. How will that look?" Now I know. I just turned 50 and they're almost 60. Seen them 15 or so times, including Lollapalooza '96 in Dallas. All of that time gone by, and not too many days go by without me picking a Metallica song or two. Lifelong fan right here.

Master of Puppets was the first tape I ever bought in 1988. I'd never heard of them before but saw someone wearing their "Metal Up Your Ass" t-shirt. Blew me away then, and still does.
The intro to Battery for the encore just hits. Album version into the live show. So good after all these years.
