I do sincerely hope that Sonne Farms had a satisfactory cattle sale on this most important day for the farm. Dan
Mr.Sonne just an idea for content is maybe teaching/talking about cattle weights as in these would be what are called 700lb er’s and there sold today for the feed lots or today we’re selling cattle for slaughter. I’m by no means a farmer or rancher but having grown up and still help with the farm. I’m sure guys like me will learn a ton and find it interesting. Between you and your dad y’all find creative & fun ways to do it.
Y’all are great, stay warm & be blessed!!!
This is just the first test of your new bunk cleaner so you will know what to change.
Just look at WD-40.
They tried 39 times before they got it right.
Lmao
I only learned about wd40 the other day and I’m 42 🤣🤣
Cole, you are almost a genius, you are very innovative, and I believe you will modify and be successful in building your contraption. I watch dozens ou youtubers and I must say I enjoy yours more than the others. You and your dad make a good pair.
"a good pair" works quite well with a bigger, longer shaft.
Cole you were successful just by not being afraid to try. Keep up the good work. Love your videos.
Cole this is for you. Do the best you can with what you have where you are. T Roosevelt. Don't give up!!!!! That's is a lot of Beef cows going. You guys stay safe and warm-
A bigger shaft and a longer shaft. That's what we need! Been saying that myself for several years.
Experience, though, is priceless:) Hope there's a version 2, I really liked this. Please stay warm, Sonne Farms.
thank you!
You’ll tweek that flapper and make it work. There’s no doubt about it. It’s a good idea and you’ll get it Cole. 164 fine beevos to end up on dinner plates, feeding folks. Thanks guys. You’re much appreciated.

I'd like to tweak a flapper! are you available?
@Repent-and-believe-in-Jesus1 Aint you got a flock to fleece?
Don’t let it get you down. That’s how we learn. People who never fail never do anything.
I have built my fair share of things that do not work out great on the first prototype. A bigger diameter shaft probably would be a good idea but if it would be easier to modify what you have you might be able to add a frame that would go up and over the belts and add another bearing on the end of the shaft to help give it more support. Would just have to make sure you leave plenty of clearance for the spinning belts.
We enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
WOW... You sold a lot of cattle!!!! Congratulations 👏🎉
Being a mechanic and welder ,farmer myself,.I can tell you nothing beats a try but failure. You will perfect it ,hang with it
Huh????
Sorry don't have a comment how your contraption should be built. Love the videos. I drop everything and watch when a video pops up. Keep up the good work. You guys do more work in 10 minutes than I do all day.
The first homemade attachment I made was a rake to level off the sand bedded freestalls on my dairy farm… I was absolutely crushed to see that 2 days of work were in vein when I realized in the first 30 seconds that I had built an absolute POS. I was so PO’d that I walked away from it for 6 months and then built an awesome version #2
I have faith that you will make this work!! Stay warm.
I think you and your father are amazing people
thats very kind
The bunk sweep was ingenious and you’ll know what you need to do for the next one, well done Cole
I might caution you welding on trucks and equipment with electronics and computers. I have seen things get fried in the process if the batteries are not disconnected first. Love the channel! Thanks for doing what you do.
Needs a bit more development and design upgrades.
Hang in there Cole, it'll all work out eventually.
Thanks, 👍😊
Hey, nothing ventured nothing gained, right. I agree with your dad, you'll get it figured out. Your probably getting the warmer weather by now and dealing with the mud, that's always fun, I know we're having fun with it, yee haw. Anyways, I hope all goes well and you all have a good rest of the week. Thanks
Thanks for another great video Cole.
It was interesting for sure.
Cole I know you are disappointed in your bunk cleaning machine. But you had the right idea and did a good job of putting it together. Now just take a second look at it and redo your work and I know you will get it to work the way you want. We are all pulling for you on this project.
Looking forward to the day you got it redone and working good.
Know you will get it done
Just don’t get stuck again. Oh my.
Busy day for you and dad selling off a lot of beef cattle. Good going.
Thanks for everything Cole. You take care and be safe.
The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
Cole, you will get it figured out no doubt. Great video as always. Hope Dad did good with the cattle sales. Beautiful herd!!!!!
Cole, I have no doubt you'll get the bunk sweeper optimized! Great idea! Thanks for taking us along.
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always 🌞 Farms!!!
Awesome video Cole. As far as the bunk sweeper, you'll get it figured out. After you do you can chase Brian around the farm with it. Keep warm up in the frozen tundra. 🚜🚜🚜
8:46 I love you the first few bounced around like they were rebels and then once the crowd saw that they weren’t getting in trouble. Then the rest made a slow stampede to escape
A+ for effort Cole ! You are a farmer AND an engineer! 😊 Stay Warm !
Thank you Sonne farms!
Experience is something that you earn but is also something that is priceless thats going to work for you just dont give up Cole keep digging
Awesome video Cole and Mr. B. Thank you.. I think your sweeper will do even better with the updates. Stay warm guys
Cole, you are WAY ahead of Thomas Edison. It took him 2,774 attempts to get a light bulb filament that worked.
Cole you most certainly didn’t fail! Every day is a new chance to learn things and that is exactly what happened! You are very good at what you do and not having made one before, you did great. There is the chance to sell it to someone whose bunks are made differently and build a new one.
Oh my goodness, that first brown cow out of the pasture…jumping and frolicking had me laughing so hard 😂
Hi Cole, have you thought of building a bunk feeder plow that you can push the snow out the side that you clean were they stand to eat. I like your idea and all, but a bunk plow would be cool. Make it like how a bottom plow turns the dirt. It might be a thought, no pump, no hydraulic holes drop down and push. I'm like you always trying to find a better way.
Exactly what I was thinking
A great video Cole enjoyed every second of it as always
I was going to suggest some chain to be more aggressive but then seeing the death machine work ,maybe no chain.Your dad is so supportive, don't take that for granted not everyone has that.
Hey brother, I applaud your efforts to come up with your own solutions! You’ll get it!
Great video Cole and Brian
Cole, Google large diameter nylon brush, you'll find a number of industrial products that would work so much better than that bailer belt
Yes probably just a little bit pricey but so would larger diameter shaft but be worth it! Hopefully he can afford it with The revenue from CZcams. Pretty good dude is in mom and dad and wife lol and uncle
Basically something like the round brush that is used at a car wash.
Hi!... You have a great " home made creation " well done, now you have found out it needs tweeking... Well done... No need to be shamed, if we tried to do something like that we wouldn't know where to start...
Well done on the nice size cattle that were fed for market... Good job!..
To you Brian and Jeff... Happy New Year,... From Canada...
Cole, you done well. Few more tweeks you'll have it. Don't give up I want to see it perform like it should, a lot of was put into it and money. I hope that cattle sale goes well. I watch your videos you guys don't cut corners on how you take care of your livestock. You and Dad are top notch. You all stay safe and warm!!
I think you need to increase diameter of shaft.
Hi Cole. I have a suggestion on your bunk cleaner. Instead of having 4 really long belts, cut the in half and attach them. So now you have a more even brushing action with 8 belts. They won't wobble as much because they won't be together. Turning independently. Just a different thought.
awsome video cole that is alot of beef thumbs up and shared
Thank you for the video.
for a prototype, that bunk cleaner was pretty close. A few adjustments and you should have it... all part of the process
. Back To The Drawing Board . YOU WILL GET IT !!!! ( Oh yea good luck at the sale !!)
The Coleslaw slapper 2 will be grand.
SOTD Jelly Roll Need a Favor.
Trial and error is how things get improved to the best performance. Celebrate your invention and make the improvements and you will be proud of the product you made.
Very ingenious idea for the bunk cleaner. Add 2 more belts to make it 4 sided, it will be more balanced. Then cut and move the C channel further out so it will be centered in the bunk. Do not extend the shaft as it will surely bend. Just my 2 cents. So much fun watching your videos
Thanks for another great video.
Safe some feed now for sure, stay warm and on the stroopwafels, greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Thaank you for all you do! Keep those rib eyes coming!
Thanks for the video.
Cole, you did great. Just a few minor adjustments & youll have what you want. Give yourself lots of credit.
Thanks for showing us the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have no doubt you’ll get the kinks worked out.
Great video cole. Don't worry about the sweeper, it's trial and error, and that's what it is about. You try something, it does not work, then you try something else to make it work. No doubt you will sort that out. You sent away some fine cattle, hope they do very well for you 👍
Howdy Cole, Brian, I hope ya'll are doing well,
I could tell the length of the shaft was about 8,10 inches to short before you left the shop, however it's a good idea, and I have no doubt you'll get it working Cole, Stay safe, God Bless and Farm on my Friends
The man is a genius. That’s awesome
Hey Cole
I would use a piece of 2” square tubing with 1/4” wall
Set it up with a hydraulic cylinder so you can move it 12” side to side. Put your shaft in the end of the tubing
That way you strengthen it up
and your shaft doesn’t have to be so long.
Love your show you have helped use on our little farm
Just need to mount a small jet engine on the skid steer forks.
Plenty of heat to melt the crust and plenty of thrust to blow the snow away !
🤣🤣
I like all the way the new gates work.
Fall down 10 times, get up 11.
Favorite are the sounds made by the peoples moving cattle.
Hope you all got a good price for the cattle.
My vote for more direct Sonne Farms beef.🖤🖤🖤
Blooming good steers , tremendous cover on their tops , very level batch
Well done gets deja vu again😊
Regards
Brian Dawson Edinburgh Scotland
Thanks for a great try Cole like you said it needs a few more inches on the end so you don’t have to ride till close to the bunks, but it is a great idea I could see it with work❤❤❤❤
Keep working on it Cole, you'll perfect your invention. Make the corrections and stay at it till it does what you need it to.
The hydrolic fluid cap looked like it was Brian tight!! Don’t let the bunk cleaner get you down, we don’t learn unless we make mistakes and hopefully when you come back to it you’ll look at it from a different angle and work it out xx
Keep working at it. With your persistence, you will get it.
I know it’s easy to be an arm chair farmer but I think a longer shaft is NOT the answer. The whole piece you fabricated, not the plate itself, needs to move out 8-10”. Not the shaft. Just thinking out loud. Great content.
That's what I was thinking also 😂
Longer extension, the shaft is OK, shift the whole unit on thr plate.
And shorten the flaps slightly for better balance.
I agree either way the other guys , just move it Out
Bushing instead of bearing on the end? Just some more armchair farming brainstorming here. Wouldt think it would be happy in its current set up for loads.
@@SirWhiteRabbit-gr5so
But remember that the shaft was flawed as it was bent. It would eventually blow out the bearings and tear itself apart. Go big.
👍 Thanks and GOD BLESS 😀
I love your ingenuity your experiments and the fact that you can take something from an idea to execution with very little assistance it's awesome and I love watching you make things! I was wondering if adding chains on top of the belt might help cuz I was thinking about truckers mud flaps in the winter. A lot of them will put chain on the mud flaps to make them heavier. I wondered if it might help hold your belt flaps and possibly break the snow.... of course you've got concrete and wood on either side and not to be mean or anything... we know self can break...so who knows how much damage you could do with the chain!! Lol But anywho. I am just an old lady with an idea...
With chains could leave metal in the bunk
Hey hey. The concept is great. Just that additional length and good to go. Good job. Always good to make a bit o cash. 😂
Loved the video. ❤❤
Cole look at your brush mower you have for the skid loader they have a valve inline on the hydraulic circuit so the blades can free spin when you shut the auxiliary off. I think that would help save your motor seals and not have the sudden jerk off when you shut it off. You can plumb and H into the line with a one way check valve to accomplish this. It allows the oil to recirculate through the motor to slow it down.
That's a great invention!
It looks like it could be wider and then maybe put a couple 🔗 chain links on the edge of the flaps to help break up material...
Nice looking steers Brian and Cole
Good idea. All new things need to be tweaked so at the start.
You will make new improvements and will work like a charm. Please don’t give up.
It Will Work. 😊😊😊😊
After thinking about this, Cole. I would use extra long trailers mud flaps, the rubber ones. You will limit the tendency for them to wrap like your belts are doing and they will give a more scooping action to the process and as a bonus they're close to the right width of the bunks. I've spent 40 years running a scoop shovel!!!
Slap Daddy's 1st go sure looked like a success! Great job!
It's all good, Cole--replace that shaft with a longer one and you get rid of that slightly concerning bend you have in the existing one. Maybe you can go up a quarter or a half in the thickness too? And hey who doesn't want a bigger longer shaft....
Option # 1. Get a shovel and get with the program!
Just a thought Cole! from Brian Sonne!
I feel that bearing won't last long if you make the shaft longer. Back to the drawing napkin for adjustments and improvements but it was a good first test.
Drawing napkin 😂
Good luck on the sale
With that last group that didn't want to go, all I kept singing was YOU SPIN ME RIGHT ROUGHT 😂😂😂
I agree with modifying the plate that attaches to the bobcat could be modified to shift sideways to give you more reach
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO COLW AND BRIAN 😊
Like you said get a longer and bigger diameter shaft. Also use four "heavy duty" pillow blocks instead of two. Maybe think about using something else besides old baler belts. Good luck!!
The bunk cleaner is a cool idea, but I think that if you rebuild it, you need to use a larger round tube instead of a solid shaft, and then drive it through a flex coupler at the motor to protect the motor.
I once built a PTO shaft for my semi truck and used a solid shaft. Under load, that solid shaft would flex and bend, but when I replaced it with a tube, I never had another issue.
Also, if you mounted the bearing on the cleaner side out about a foot on a rectangular tube, you would be able to support the drive shaft right at the cleaner! and still be able to reach far enough into the bunk.
I would suggest precision ground rod for version 2, I’d add another belt and make them 6” longer as well.
good idea make it longer to fit the feed bunk of coarse thats going to put more pressure on the to small dia shaft and if you could find a round brush it would help everything love your show.
Use the mini ex to clean the bunk out. We have all built things that we thought would work well and were disappointed in the end.
And I’m not being a hater. The barb wire roller you built is excellent. I wish I had one when I was replacing old fence a few years ago
Another thing to help it work better might be to shorten the belts by 6-12 inches should make them firmer when spinning.
Its shitty hard work, 24/7/365... Raised hogs, farrow to finish, 130 sows, all on concrete, hot nursery, 200' finish barn,,, Raising livestock is a bitch,,,, Farmed 1500 acres and had a soybean seed business.... Love the vids, farming to the core... Had the same relationship with my father, probably what I miss the most!!! Enjoy it while you have it!!! Hogs are way more manageable then cattle... love me some beef steaks though brother,,, thanks for what you do!!!! people have know idea what it takes to raise livestock!!!!
Great looking Steers.
Cole if you could get your hands on one of those old cattle brushes that a lot of farms use to let the cattle rub their backs you might be able to rig up a way to put it on the end of your contraption. That would make a better brush IMO
The concept and build were sound.
One more uplift and that's a heck of a good piece of equipment.
Sure beats a shovel.
May I suggest that you start over on your flapper and use the pipe that you use to build your gates? At least 2" but 2 1/2 or even 3" would work fine. I have no idea if you can get pillow blocks big enough to use the pipe though.
I know the answer to the question, "where's the beef"? At Uncle Jeff's farm. Guys those are nice lookin' calves! Yeah, winter is not so bad if you're in Alabama. I feel for you guys.
Cole ,do you ever wonder if the cows know the dart is for them and at last second they MOOOOVE I
I AGREE WITH BRIAN YOU WILL GET THE BUNK CLEANER FIXED AND THEN ON TO THE NEXT INVENTION YOU TWO MAKE MY DAY WORKING TOGETHER LIKE YOU DO THANKS FOR YOUR CHANNEL
Not a failure Cole, merely a revamp for a new improved model tailor made to YOUR farm and YOUR needs!! This was just a "proof of concept" model. Now you have proven the concept, you can make the REAL product! Hows that?? I gotta wonder though, that is going to be tossing crap 360 degrees there. Hope the glass on that machine is tough!! LOL
hey Cole, nice work on the sweeper. maybe this has been suggested, but would ot be really tough to cut your C-channel off and shift it to the left. or maybe rebuild with not only an extended shaft but C-channel also for support. good luck. See you on the next one.
I really like the idea of the sweeper. Only a couple tweaks My suggestion would be to put a flow valve on it and slow it down a bit for more control and of course the length as you already know. Trial and error that’s how we learn. Great videos.
Cole, nothing is ever perfect the first time. Anything good takes a few modifications. You'll get it.
