- Filmed a while back now, so thankfully I've sorted everything - but what a weekend this was!
Journey is from Whitley Lock at Eggborough on the Aire and Calder, North Yorkshire all the way down to Barnby Dun on the River Don, South Yorkshire - via the New Junction Canal.
Nathan @ Hirst Boatbuilders in Knottingley - 07909 595452
Filmed on an iPhone 6, edited using iMovie. Except for the outro, 'Blue water' by Blackrock feat. Debra Andrew (choonz mate), all music is made by me, so got to stick a ©RobbieCumming on that. Available here: / cobedy

Hi Robbie. Always enjoy your videos. As an offshore boater myself, Ive found it useful to keep money for emergencies hidden on the boat. Emergencies are like what just happened to you with the charge card going missing. If you have PAYPAL... a PAYPAL debit card hidden on the boat is useful........ or indeed a Post Office debit card. I learned the hard way to only take one card with me when going out... As I live in Spain, I usually only take out the Post Office Mastercard debit card which can be used in ATMs and as a CC. Just load the card with monies to the amount you want and the job is done. Here is a tip ... wrap a rubber band around your wallet with card in or money, and it will be difficult to remove from a pocket as the rubber grips to the pocket lining...
Not long been on my boat but flooded under the boards too because their is a hole.in my water tank...empty the tank by running the tap, will cause the bow to lift, then run the bilge pump at the back where all the water will flow to :)
Best thing for getting up water like that apart from a small pump, is a dust pan, from a dust pan and brush set.
I really hope you dry out soon, it's been terrible weather and everything must be so damp in there, even the air?
Chin up matey, keep cranking it :-D
Good call. Yes damp is always an issue. It's all good now, I'm just using things like moisture traps and had been leaving all inspection hatches open - thankfully Yorkshire was baking hot when this was filmed! 8^)
There's nothing worse than a wet bottom. I hope you get properly dried out soon! Loving you videos. You always have a very cheery outlook on everything. Keep up the great work.
I try! Laughed when I saw your comment come up on my phone, cheers Martin yes it's all sorted now so it's all good! 8^)
Enjoying your blogs Robbie! Can imagine that leak was a wobbly incident, pleased you got it sorted out. Must say your life style looks great.
Cheers John! Yes I suppose it is great - sometimes I need reminding!! 8^)
Even Frodo needed a Sam.
Very glad to see that the Naughty Lass didn't turn in to the Nautilus, otherwise I'd have to start calling you Captain Nemo! Great voyage log, as always -- cheers.
good pub in Liverpool is the Baltic fleet,
worth a visit next time you go.
They say "everything happens in threes". So sorry for you - flood, welding and lost card. Despite the set backs, that was a lovely straight-line cruise. Super camera work, great commentary and loved the music. Thanks for taking me along with you
Poor Robbie 😭 what a nightmare! Great video as always. Those bridges looked awesome
Thanks very much LBG! At least now I can better understand the boat leaking problems you had!
Brilliant Robbie.... I like the warts and all experiences, they toughen you up I am sure but glad you share them too, if it all just scenes of cruising it would not be half the entertainment, I tune in to see how you cope with the day to day stuff as much as the pub of the week. Keep Cranking it mate.
That's actually really good to hear Kev - I worry people won't want to see me go through all this. But that's life! If you want escapism go and watch a sci fi movie or something (I know I do!) 8^)
Something has me thinking that ordering _"All ahead, flank speed!"_ on a narrowboat makes a rather less dramatic bow wave and rooster tail than my Dad's Navy Destroyer did at that power setting. ;D
Oh my goodness Robbie.... I'm so sorry for your misfortune. You know it could have been worse. Again it's always great to see and hear from you. Keep your head up and be glad it wasn't worse.
Thanks Jen, well I've already had a number of problems since (such as the oil leaking as I may have alluded to in the live video) but you tend to just forget about it all as you keep moving forward! Amazing what a bit of time can do!
You are absolutely right...here is to future Crank It baby:) smoother cruise in the cut.:)
Woo yeah!! ⚓️🦑🤘
Love your vids Robbie and your tunes, Relaxing yet uplifting. Hope everything works out for you fella.
Thank you v much Nick! 8^)
Great vlog. Looking forward to,the next one. Doncaster looks fun!
Thank you Dulcie, yes Donny is a great laugh on a night out!
oh my god Robbie i am so sorry , it sounds horrific , what a stroke of luck with your taxi gent helping you , with the cash flow and your great friend helping , what a great guy !
Wow! That water tank was in a bad shape :( Glad you got it sorted. Hopefully you've got the rest of the water out by now! Keep crankin' it :)
Cheers Ronnie! Yes thankfully it's all dry now (or as dry as it can be!) 8^)
"Glad of lift bridges"" ? Never thought I'd hear you say that!
Sorry to see the flood mate. We had similar on our recent trip when some plumbing behind the washing machine went pop. I got a hand bilge pump (by 'Whale', cost about 20 notes) that did a great job. Much quicker than sponges or cups etc. All dry now on our boat so hope same for you by now. Keep on cranking it! D
Cheers Dean yeah all good now, glad same for your boat. I will have to buy another hand pump (I didn't show it but I had bought one from Wilkos which was totally useless) for the future 8^\
I always carry a great big sponge on boats, much bigger than the one on the end of your mop, to sponge out that last bit of water that can't be bailed out.
Got one (and unfortunately am using it again for a water leak) 8^)
A tip I learned is to use a cheap plastic dustpan as a flood bailing scoop. Gets right down to the metal hull, so less mopping / sponging to do.
I go to Whitley lock all the time , can't believe I missed you
Felt your pain about the water overflowing nightmare, jeezus effin' criyst. I read somewhere that it happens to almost all of us all so maybe live safely in the knowledge that you've been there & done that. I've been there bailing myself, not as bad but... Otherwise, fab weather, great vid & I had a drink for ya ;)
Oh glad you've got one!!! Thanks for that Lisa you're right it happens to all of us surely, just like falling in! 8^)
Crap Robbie, Sorry you've had a bad run of fortune. Kudos to Sam for being a great friend! May your boat stay dry and your spirit high as you crank the narrow cut. Best wishes my Friend!
Thank you Eric - yes, Sam is a great bloke, made sure I cooked dinner and bought him a beer with my last few pennies as without him I would've been up way past twelve and there would have been a lot more swearing!!
You might want to get a battery operated pump wand. It works great for getting into tight spaces or when you need to pump out the fuel from a tank, some are even suited for pumping out oil. I bought one for pumping out the fuel in my watercraft.
Hope you got it all sorted mate! All the best!
Cheers Andrew! 8^)
Fantastic vlog (as always) but god you had a rough time. That taxi driver is a legend. That kind of thing restores your faith in human nature
Thanks! Yes absolutely the Taxi driver was great, and there's always a way even when you've given up all hope! Cheers Mandy! 8^)
Robbie Cumming I was just about to ask you about the music in your vlogs and I've just found my favourite thanks to Patreon. I LOVE Windy Biscuits. It's in my head so much after watching your vlogs. I had no idea you write a lot of the music. You're so talented. I'm now downloading Soundcloud so I can listen to more x
Cool! Thanks Mandy, well it's one way of getting around the copyright strikes! You can also download most of the songs from Soundcloud for free at the moment if you're on your computer...
Robbie Cumming thank you, that's fantastic. I will do that today. I've sent a little something to thank you for sharing 😊
Sounds like a tough week. At least you had the beautiful view of a power station to make up for it! =D
Perhaps it's time to consider a small (or even large) bilge pump. I'm surprised they are not standard, or even required on narrow boats to receive your yearly license.
We do have them but they are in the stern by the prop shaft as that's the only place you have water coming in. Flat bottom as well so not the same as cruisers/sailboat/yachts etc.
Done that 'oops left the tap on' too! I bought a wet and dry Hoover. It's great to get into those tight spaces. But **++! happens and it happens all at the same time. Thanks for posting. 👍🏼
Ahhhh bad times! Thank god for boat friend Sam 😉
I know, what a legend! 8^)
Robbie Cumming we all need a Sam....Someone to fly in and do their shizzzzzzle! #teamsam ☺️
Watching all your videos from the first to the latest… just finished this one. I’ve liked the acoustic guitar songs in your videos for a while & wondered if they were Robbie Cumming originals. As I typically watch them on our XBox One, I don’t there’s a way to see the “text & links below.” Finally, today I got around to using my iphone to read the “text & links below.” Sure enough, it *is* you playing the guitar. Excellent! Great songs & well recorded. Bravo!
Interesting thank you yes I forget people watch on TV etc didnt even think about Xbox!!
Mate sorry to hear your issues and glad to see your still smiling. Nothing worse than losing your card and being miles away to sort anything. Bet you were dying for a burger and a beer. Mate I'd grab a hand pump as part of your boats kit. Ideal for this type of thing or your bilge pump packing up. Robbie I'll contact you via Patreon about it. Keep smiling fella :)
Cheers Dan that sounds good, I did buy a plastic one but it was for designed for siphoning diesel! Doh!
Drop down the Worcester and Birmingham as far as Tardebigge. I'll treat you to a pump out and I don't say that to all the boys :)
Pahahaha brilliant!!
Sorry you had so many problems mate. It will all work out. No need to worry, it's wasted energy and you can do anything about it. Things happen for a reason.
Happy cranking on the waters, Chris from Missouri
Thanks Chris, appreciate that. Hope you and your fella are well and enjoying summer - here's to getting through problems 🥂
Robbie Cumming I'm not getting to the lake as much as I like to. Are camper is in need of some much needed repairs. We have a bad leak & it would cost more to fix if we would just go trade it in & get a good used one. When we go to the lake we fish & I swim hard. So it's nice to have a place to come back to, with AC & rest a bit before traveling an hour 1 way, plus being disabled we get are camp spot for 1/2 price so it's cheap to stay a week & catch a lot of fish. When we get are credit card paid off, we're going to go get a used camper or a new one. Which ever is cheaper in are books, bc I really don't want someone else's problem if you know what I mean. My husband & I just talked about that the other night. Are you reading my mind.. lol.. But we're going to get 2 new batteries for the big boat, bc I can sleep on the seat if I get tired. That way, if no one's around, I can take a skinny dip.. hehehe I've only done that 1 time in my late 30's. True story. Now I'm in my mid 50's so I guess I'm in titled for being a good girl all my life.. lol.. I've got to admit it's kinda fun. Plus on weekdays there's no traffic on the lakes here & we can hit a cove where no one can see. Living life after 50 is great.. Just want to get the batteries in the big boat & a camper that don't leak. Then I'm in haven. Or buy a houseboat & live on it all year long. That's my dream. Chris
Great vid. At least you had enough change for a pint. Cheers
Thanks guys yep bloody needed one after all that!
That lads got a heart a gold. Well done Sam. Top lad.
Absolutely, he'a actually relatively new to it all but you'd think he'd been doing it for years.
Robbie Cumming . I've known Sam for many years. really close family friend. don't meet many like him. good luck on ya travels. really enjoyed ya vlog.
No way! What a small world! Cheers for checking out the vlog, I shall have to let him know you commented 8^D
Been checking your vlogs, Hopefully sooner or later I will find one that doesn't involve lots of worry, panic or tales of woe!
Wrong channel I’m afraid!!
@@RobbieCumming Just watched the one (14) about the overheating narrowboat engine, more woe! Reminds me of things though, I had a wee 27 foot yacht in and around the Clyde and had a few nailbiting moments Out playing in fairly rough weather with no working foresail, using the engine because of the sail problem, when there was a pop and a huge cloud of steam from the cabin, a cooling hose had blown off. Great fun sailing back and onto a mooring with only one useable sail. The other less spectacular one was an oil pressure warning light that came on with no wind so engine needed and not in sight of land. These things are sent to make life a bit more interesting! Pity vlogging wasn't a thing back then!
get yourself a little notebook, anything that is very important to write down. SHOWERHEAD ON.! Only takes a second but can save hours. good luck Robbie.
Well I hope the 15-20 hours I spend editing these videos should serve a similar purpose but I could be wrong! Thanks Briddy great advice!
Amazing life style dude!, can't wait for your next comp!,my windows are still filly ,haha!,,STU,
Oh dear hope you get that sorted! Great to hear from you 8^)
A small sump pump would have helped. Sounds like you had the good with the bad. Take care and Merry Christmas
Crikey Robbie that's a bit of life and I've had a bit myself i'm very sorry I've not made it on to the crew but new job and I think I think all is well. So I might get on the books after all. Carry on cranking.
That's life innit! Nice one Mr J, you too! 8^)
nice one just having a nice free drink after a visit from me dad FROM IRELAND yeah life can suck but i'm now on the up again earning and sorted. Hope all is well robmeister keep up the cranking :D
Wow what a bad day loosing your card and flooding your boat OMG, good news have my T-Shirt and walking around Cheltenham with it on with pride :) Thank you again.
Fantastic! Thanks Adrian great to hear! I'd love to visit Cheltenham - Deya brewery is there somewhere I think - but not sure if there is a navigable canal/river 8^)
The nearest stop point would be Tewkesbury there is a regular bus into Cheltenham from there message me on FB if you would like a tour.
Will do thanks Adrian!
Can't wait for your next vlog in Doncaster!!! I used to work there and it's sooo close to where we used to live! We're currently living in Texas so we're feeling very far from home. I wonder what your pub of the week will be!? 🤔 Great vids btw 😊
Waayyy Donny!! Tell you what the Pub of the week section for it is going to be massive as I went on a bit of a bender! They know how to party! One pub you might know, and another you won't as it's only been there a few months and is in the train station itself so something a bit different. Cheers and howdy y'all! 8^)
Inside the train station!? What! We wait with baited breath for the fabulous Doncaster pub crawl! So excited! We might play drink along whilst watching from this side of the pond. Keep on cranking! 🙂
Great idea! 8^)
Maybe a puddle pump some remove water down to 1mm , cheaper ones 3mm
Eyup. Great video. Glad to see you're moored in my missus home county. I was going to recommend a pub in the area, my father in law is the landlord 😉 but it's no where near the canal sadly.
Bad news about the card and the flooding glad to see you overcame the issues.
Oh really? Actually that's usually the criteria I look for - how far away from the canal is it?! If it's right next to it that's not good... usually those are the most soulless, just in it for the tourist trade, however there are some notable exceptions (like the Steam Packet here!)
It's in a village near Barnborough The river runs past not far away but i doubt the Naughty Lass could navigate it. It's a traditional village local.
Barnborough? Where's that? And the river? I love looking at maps!
My bad. Spelled it wrong. Barnburgh. Between Sprotborough and Adwick upon Dearne. The river as you probably guessed is....the Dearne
Ah right! Sounds like it's in a nice spot. Sprotbrough looked really nice when I passed by recently. No signal though! 8^)
Certainly demonstrates the advantage of stashing a small bankroll of cash onboard for emergencies. You might never need it; then again, you might.
Just wondering Robbie I take it you have arrived at Sheffield and back on your way out.. I was down at Victoria Quays but could not find Naughty Lass.. Have fun and will look out for your Sheffield visit..
Cheers - no I'm staying put in VQ for a bit 8^)
Roobie that was close ahh Top man Sam your the man ;-) WOW thats nuts :-( such a great video as always trust one day you'll dry out Naughty Lass ;-)
Yes Sam is a legend. All dry now thank goodness - although you can never stop in the fight against damp! Cheers! 8^)
I hope things get better luvie.
Hi Patty thank you I have had a few more problems since but then that's life isn't it, you've just got to keep going and enjoy the good times even more 8^)
Interesting music at 14 mins. Thanks that was good.
Ha..who needs bank's when you've got a friendly cab man😂😁👍
Sam's the man.
stepping back in time.
Mosquuto net? Lòked more like a Tu-Tu dress to me. You keeping secrets Robbie?
Great vid. I do aree the days of music under vids is over.
hey Robbie. Awesome video... it suck when you lose your debit card . I know I been there.....you are lucky you had anther way to get money......keep craning it. and cheers.
Thanks Tom there's always a way around isn't there, cheers mate 8^)
Not a great week then. At least you now know how to scuttle the boat should you run into pirates. Do you have much of an issue with mosquitoes?
I hadn't realised that most of the music used is your own Robbie. It must be something to do with YT narrowboaters as that is at least three I watch that write their own. I have been listening to you on Soundcloud. Well done - wish I had some musical ability.
Yes I know Phil from Narrowboat Journeys writes his, Jasmin's partner Seb helps with hers - are there others then? We should have a jam?!!
Hannah Narrowboat also use their own
Pub of the week not monetized.
This should change, at least meal and drink. Honest review
You really should have visited Goole Boathouse and an enjoyable night in the Club House.
'I need a drink'
Interesting you need to get yourself a pump that works like a bicycle pump in reverse - peace of cake and you would be dry, lost my debit card the other day, got a new one and then found the old one, silly me put both in the wallet and no idea which one works !! life is SO complicated!
That would be good. Ha ha hope you figure it out one day!
Nice music
Sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare mate!
The worst thing was we drank all my beer after mopping up so I had to go without for a whole weekend 8^o
Robbie Cumming that makes it even worse! 😕
11:04 Naughty Lass goes into warp 1 ;)
Me & sister went shopping to Doncaster once & a couple of guys came up to the bridge for a chat where we were stood looking down on the marina , & They were on their hols & were also from Chesterfield too lol , & rented some houses out not far from me , what a small world lol .
I am guessing the bucket was covering the plug hole!? Perhaps a lesson for everyone going forward!?
No unfortunately not that sinple! The plug hole won’t drain water unless operating the manual pump - it’s all under the water line and gravity’s a bitch!
Been there
In apartments though
Water I imagine will mould
Off topic...BUT....how long did it take to get Naughty Lass rebottomed....and did it mean removing interior furniture? Thx in advance...I hope all is going swimmingly well.........as it were.
I can't remember, it was out of water for as long as the floods were in effect and also with lock closures - sorry. I can tell you it cost £8,000 and that was just to overplate (ie put a completely new sheet of metal over the old one). Thanks for watching!
Good job Sam me thinks you should buy the beers for sam
I actually spent my last fiver on beers for him! But it's cool we're not a reciprocal race us boaters - just got to pay it forward!
That water tank was in a really bad way Robbie, is there any technical reason why the tanks can't have a fitted thick plastic lining?
Not that I know of
In which case, for what it would add to the initial cost of a boat and the grief it could potentially save, you'd think it would be fitted as a standard item.
Hi Robbie, Started at your first vid the other day and working my way through them all :-). Great viewing dude.
Sorry if already asked or covered before or after this episode but what length is your narrowboat and its a traditional? Are you happy with its size and style or what would you get if you could buy again? Thanks. I think I’m looking at a 50-55ft trad but need to actually go and step on board a few I think. Thanks dude.
That’s awesome thank you for watching! Yeah best way is to view a few. My boat is a trad stern and at 42ft it’s more than enough space for me. I simply couldn’t afford any bigger but it’s a great size and good for turning. Would like to buy a 50ft trad next.
Love. Chang’es. Everything
3:45 I can still see a hole, far left near the floor !
Well spotted pinky man! I was told to leave it by the welder, it was next to the vent hole in a difficult place and as such it would have required more time, which he didn’t have based on the fact that I only had £200 to give him at the time!!
I know this all happened nearly two years ago, but I feel for you.
Thank you! And thankfully it hasn’t happened again since!
I dunno .... all that bad luck and then you have that bloke with a Tommy-gun chasing you up the cut half-way through .... Dang ;-)
Did you manage ti get all the wayer out?
Yes! Although some has created a bit of a cement type situation with all the gravel ballast...
Hi doesn't narrow boats have bilge pumps ?
Hi yes they do, but only for the area around the prop shaft. Flat bottom hulls
that's a bad flood. when did you get a new debit card?
I cashed a cheque when I got to Doncaster and then got the card send home a couple of weeks after as thankfully I was going home anyway (a good 200 miles from the boat!)
NO PUMPS ?? !!
How deep are your canals?
Kenneth Hudson depends on the canal. Averages around 3 to4 feet
Sorry to be backward, but didn't quite understand how you got money off the taxi firm if you had no card. Do you do online banking ?
That's it!
Surprised You don't have a bilge pump? Party on.
I have a bilge pump in the stern. Cheers!
I'm putting three in this weekend!! Haha my dad lives on a 100 year old dutchy and has about 6 haha
Adventures in life can sometimes be not fun, eh? Still adventures though. All part of the record.
Exactly - it's all part of the story! Cheers Andy 8^)
dont paint it. dry it out then sand it well. Once done rubb 2 coats of linseed oil into it. Less blisters and last longer. Reapply linseed oil as needed or once a year. Works with any wood implements. Just put some oil on a rag and rub it on. doesn't take much and wood lasts longer.
Sounds good, which bits of the boat should I use it on?
talking about your wooden poles and other wood handled instruments. They will also last longer
Of course, sorry yes I forgot about that. Can I use my Danish oil instead I wonder? I have varnished wood that I could sand back as well as the poles etc.
i only know about linseed oil. Its what water proofs things in the old days such as raincoats, boots, oils skins , canvas, etc.
Was going to buy one a few yrs ago after watching your vids glad I didn't it's none stop worry, your only one minute off a disaster, like I said before boat stands for brake out another thousand 😳 wouldn't have one given
Mate, you deserve a couple of pints after all that 🍺
Strangely lost my wallet! In the middle of no where!
Argh nightmare! Hope you got it back?! 8^\
A wet vac mate
I'll give you a bloomin' wet vac! 8^D
Robbie Cumming lol that sounds both fun and hilarious. However I meant a wet vac as in a shop vacuum that can handle liquids.
He he I know bit late now though innit! It's all dry now, used a few nappies and let open all the inspection hatches. Good idea though if I had the space/was near a marina! 8^)
had to get someone else to bail your boat ? oi --- you don't have a wallet to keep your cards in, that's another OI!!!!!!!!!
By the sound of your motor you need a valve adjustment very soon !!!!
I know - it's been long overdue, well done you have a v keen ear!! 8^)
Love your videos!!!
Cheers Gizzo!!
Need a pump
Wouldn’t really work due to the nature of ballast/shifting in weight/flat hull but thanks I know what you mean!
I enjoy your channel very much, but two words young fella “bilge pump” I have three on my boat.
Martyn thank you for your advice. But I’ve got two words for you too: Flat hull!! A flat hull full of ballast all the way up to the bilge at the stern. I should’ve explained more clearly in the video, my fault. 8^)
Mainly for floods better than baling with buckets surely lol
Robbie Cumming Nonsense. If you can pick up water with a bucket, a wisely installed bilge pump will work as well..
I’m sorry but it really wouldn’t in this particular case due to many factors that I will go into one day
I don't see when you would ever need an anchor. A couple of rods to drive into the bank I can see but not an Anchor, that is for open water and your narrow boat is not an open water boat. Just my opinion.
You're right Honor my boat isn't seaworthy - but an anchor is essential if you're on any river, tidal or otherwise - if your engine cuts out and you drift towards a weir, even very slowly - it's game over 8^\
As you might know, there are many unpredictable situations that can happen suddenly, especially if on a river like getting the prop. properly;) fowled, engine overheated an losing all thrust and steering while slowly being taken by the current or wind towards a rather/very bad situation is just one I've been in, where without it you might lose your boat/home an everything in it. If you only ever need it once you'll be freaking glad you have it.
Now sling your hook. ;-)
It's alright Pete, Honor was just voicing her opinion, she's as welcome as any here!!
If I caused offence then.. I guess that is what it is and, maybe I should of stressed that I meant "sling ya hook" strictly in the nauticle term rather than the wink ;-) I used too depict that, but no offence meant or intended Robbie, I was just trying to be funny and I like homonyms!
Oh sorry mate! You're right! I've just googled it and the original meaning meant to weigh/hoist/lift the anchor and set sail! What can I say it's been a long week 8^)
check my last post, Its important for you if you do this.
how old is your boat and would you advise not to buy a 25 year old boat in the market for a boat have a line on it
Not sure what you're asking there mate? Mine's 36 years old. But it's not as simple as old = bad, it's more to do with how thick steel was, maintenance, wear and tear - too many variables 8^)
so all comes out in the survey .......then theres the surprises ........ planing on coming over soon and take up living on the cut for a few years till i find the area i like ....... perhaps a carivan after that wait see
so what would be an exspected price to pay for a 35 year old boat........ any tips on were and how to buy a boat ........ ill be arriving in manchester on a freighter have stuff in a motorcycle container with me
Great stuff, good luck with the home hunt! 8^)
Hard to say, there are thousands of boats all built to different specifications, and a boat in Manchester might be different price to anothee area of the country - anyway, check this website first - m.apolloduck.com/index.phtml?cid=140&rid=gb
David rather vehemently claims to have no interest in speed or power, yet he has almost 3 times as much power as you or Kevin, and suggested he has some interest in torque, by which he appears to mean the ability to go 4 mph at very low RPMs for a more pleasant sound. I suggested a very steep prop to both heighten this effect and increase fuel economy, but David has not commented on that. What is your fuel mileage? Kevin has reported 9mpg at times.
Absolutely no idea Alan! Sounds like you have enough knowledge to start your own blog!!
I used to run a couple of facebook groups, but my real account got frozen when I changed cellphones, leaving me with just the fakes. I dabble in boat tech when I burn out on politics, but do some repair work on older cars and small engines. My brother is a naval architect.
As far as naval architecture, I think more use could be made of the narrowness of narrowboats if they had finer, sharper, ends, with which they could slice through the water like those racing rowboats, which have so much less wash, and fuel, at the same speed than their tenders as you have noticed, at only small cost in interior space. David might benefit from a steeper prop, but you and Kevin need all the power you have, since you have so much less power and buck more challenging currents with that less power.
Interesting.... I’d like to see that sort of design out on the cut. One day I will at least buy a more powerful engine. Quieter might be good for the videos too. Friend of mine has a volvo engine (not sure which) in his narrowboat and it goes like the clappers, however he can’t travel too far due to work commitments. What a shame!
I think I have noticed slightly finer bows on some of the traditional workboats in the videos. Here's a fine bow. www.autoblog.com/2015/11/15/frank-stephenson-designs-beautiful-electric-boat/
the music is too loud in comparison to the narration.
