Yeah. I member jamming this tune. Rio Costilla Park/ Latir Lake #3 ..11000 ft at full moon. 1994 with my best friend ..to this day. Good times ...epic tune.
I grew up listening to this band. I went to see them perform in San Francisco and was amazed by how they freestyled their way through the night. Vut the most incredible part was when they left stage. The crowd ROARED for an encore!!! Popper came back on stage and honored the crowd with an encore song. He played Mountains Win Again. My favorite Blues Traveler song. When he was done he bowed and threw his harmonica into the crowd where my girlfriend caught it!!! and she gave it to me. its a prized possession of mine. ill never forget that moment. it was incredible. CHEERS!!!! To Blues Traveler and anyone who ends up here because they need some reassurance. Rock on!
yeah the Jimi Hendrix of the harmonica reason why music can't be like this anymore is there just hasn't been anything really notable in a while now that was then and this is now and unfortunately we're going through a low spot in our music
yeah I've been into the blues traveler for a long time myself I play harmonica I've been playing since I was twelve and I'm 65 yeah I like all kinds harmonica stuffI'd like to do my version of when the levee breaks by led Zeppelin with that harmonica work in there that was one of the things I've been working on
"Four" was such an amazing album, and this song still gives me chills. It came out while I was starting my fight against cancer. I know it's about depression, but there were many times during my surgeries and chemo that I really thought I was fighting mountains.
I think part of what makes truly great and memorable music is that people from all sorts of different situations can relate to it. This is the power of blues music. We've all felt it to some degree, and when we acknowledge those feelings we can find healing. I truly hope you have found healing and have found new meanings in everything you enjoy listening to.
I think why people say not enough cred or underrated is because SO MANY GREAT bands and songs came out during this time. It was a magical moment in time for music, like the 60's..to never be again. The Mountains Win Again!!!!!
This is just an awesome song! As a Christian I wish more songs dealt with matters like this instead of the glib cliches we hide behind. After losing my son at 3 years old the mountains of depression are not always easy to fight against and they are hard to climb over. I love the line "men are not to cry, so how am I to stop it?" Men do cry, sometimes the mountains win. "In his life on earth Jesus made his prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to God, who could save him from death." Hebrews 5:7. Jesus cried out loudly with tears and it's okay for us to do so also. Life is not always easy, things rock us really hard and we don't always have all the answers right now. God knows this and thats why He encourages us to pour out our hearts to Him and find a refuge in Him, not to keep it all inside. Psalm 62:8 By the way Popper rocks the harmonica!!!
Bro, I'm not a Christian...but I'm definitely with you on this one. Every time I hear Christian Music I think "geez, do you think God ever gets sick of people telling him what he is and how great he is? How about writing something from the heart that shows what he *means* to you, or how about writing human stories that show how your Christian principles help you transcend or see better ways of looking at life?"
From one Christian man to another you had me weeping with your post. I’m praying for you brother. We aren’t immune to pain and suffering but we have the God of all comfort. I’m so sorry for your loss. John 11:35
This song is mesmerizing It always takes me back to a place in my life when I was a much younger man. I think of old friends, ex girlfriends , not knowing or caring what the future held for me. I sure miss those care-free days and all the friends I used to have. I hope they are all alive, well, and thriving. Life was so much simpler back then. Peace to all in 2023.
It was 2007, driving with all the windows down across the desert in Nevada. Sun setting in the west, orange hue hugging the tops of the mountains around the valley. Thunderstorms far off in the distance silently flashing the sky white like fireworks. This song was on, and I had it up full blast. One of my best memories ever.
Brian Downey sounds beautiful. First time I'm hearing this song.. and I grew up in this era and their two main songs hook and run around. I like this one.
You'll never forget the pain of loss, it will never go away and sometimes it will catch you unawares after years and cause you to throw yourself at its feet and weep, but the everyday torment will become softer and you will stand tall, deal with it, scarred, but stronger. For everyone who has hurt, in other words, all of us.
My British “brother” was staying with me for a month, because he was visiting from England. I live in Southern CA (LA area) and we were driving back from Northern CA after visiting my family in San Francisco. We took a wrong turn after visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium and ended up having to take the long way home which was the famous 1/Pacific Coast Highway. He drove as I had my hand out the window enjoy the ocean breeze mixed with the smell of pine trees and redwoods. This song played as We drove through the mountains along the ocean and stopped to watch the sunset. This will always be “our song” and our friendship will always be epic.
I pick up my smile put it in my pocket Hold it for a while try not to have to drop it Men are not to cry so how am I to stop it Keep it all inside don't show how much she rocked ya Ooh can you feel the same Ooh you gotta love the pain Ooh it looks like rain again Ooh I feel it comin' in The mountains win again The mountains win again Dreams we dreamed at night were never meant to come to life I can't understand the ease she pulled away her hand This time in my life I was hurt enough to care I guess from now on I'll be careful what I share Ooh can you feel the same Ooh ya gotta love the pain Ooh it looks like rain again Yeah feel it comin' in The mountains win again A pocket is no place for a smile anyway Someday I will find love again will blow my mind Maybe it will be that love that got away from me Is there a line to write that could make you cry tonight Can you feel the same Yeah ya gotta love the pain Ooh it looks like rain again Ooh feel it comin' in The mountains win again Ooh the mountains win again
Mine four years ago... (3 years after yours) one of our favorite songs... I know your post is 7 years old but keep your head up man, we'll see them again one day, after a life well lived.
It's currently 2020, I know most men don't outlive their mates more than about five years, hope this finds you still kicking and maybe you found your smile again, brother.
Hope you are doing good brother. I learned years ago it is what it is. Nothing we can do to stop things in life. All we can do is live for those who left to soon and do our best every day. Sorry for your loss man.
Sorry to hear that brother. I lost my uncle due to covid 2 months ago and my cousin 2 weeks ago in a motorcycle accident. Just know that you now have an angel watching over you. May she rest in peace!
Very cleverly titled. Love didn't move those mountains. It sure moved them once in my life, which is apparently nearing its end. Oh, well... what can I do? We all have to take that final journey, terrifying as it may be. But those mountains we moved eventually became an obstacle instead of a sign of triumph. We unknowingly moved those mountains right between us, and now there's a huge chasm where my heart once lived.
The other day I was shopping and heard a Blues Traveler song over the speakers of the grocery store. I said damn remember Blues Traveler and everyone just looked at me like I was a alien. God damn those were the go od days when music was worth listening to. My gf said who cares they sucked anyways. But she doesn't know i used to play this song when I was 16 thinking of a girl I had a crush on all through high school back in the middle 90s. I kinda creeped on her Facebook page and thats when I realized that was then.. she has kids and a husband and looked really happy. But when I hear this song I wonder if she ever thought of me. We kissed one night playing ghost in the grave yard by the boat docks. It was my first kiss. I took her to home coming but I was so shy I couldn't ever think what to say to her. I choked. But when I heard Blue Traveler I felt like I was in a time machine it was a different time back then. We were all such beautiful kids it was a beautiful time back then. I'll never forget those days I'd stay up all night thinking of her and playing this song. Maybe it was just a natural high thinking of her and playing great music like this. Anyways thanks for the memories BT!
Who remembers this song from a Nascar Busch series (now Xfinity) commercial from 2005/2006? If you were born in 1995 this song was part of your childhood bc of that very commercial
When I was 18 and thought I was in love, and the older and wiser people in my life realized I was about to throw my life away on a trashy girl with a horrible reputation by eloping with her, somehow playing this song over and over softened the blow. I can't explain it really. But they were right, and now I'm about twice that age and happily married to the love of my life. So... the moral of the story is... thanks, Blues Traveler!!!
This came on in the grocery store and I sang along to the whole thing. It's been more than I decade, probably closer to two since I last heard this song.
Saw John Popper last summer in a crowd of 200 it was awesome. Was so beautiful to here him play this acoustic. Just him and a friend of his from Evergreen, CO ❤
In “97, the band was playing in West Palm Beach and John Popper showed up at a small lake Worth movie theater to watch a matinee alone. My business was next door. I immediately recognized him. He came inside and smoked a couple cigarettes. He was awesome open and down to earth. Then he went to the movie.
John popper leads one of the best bands that came out of new Jersey and the only one with a harmonica harness and a phenomenal voice, going to see them in Phoenix Arizona, rock on blues traveler.
I had a Friend that looked just like the lead singer, But I blew our friendship and now this is as close as I can get to see him, And go figure this song is hideing who you really are.......Miss you Big Rob you were the best friend I ever or probablly will ever have in the rest of my life!!!!!
In 2018 i went to my first concert to see these guys when i was in the first grade and about 30 minutes after the show started they brought me on stage signed one thing from each band member and also i had a john cena doll and they midshow went backstage and singed it for me. Then after the show i got to go backstage at the big top Chautauqua in wisconsin. Loved blues travler then now and for ever. Please get the word to john popper.-Charley the little kid with the john cena doll in wisconsin
My best friend, my sister ended her life while living in Colorado and this very song played as we put her to rest. With all my love and bitter- sweet memories. Zen forever in my ❤miss you for the rest of my life
1.5 speed makes this so much happier. For better or worse. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find that they slowed this down to make it more melodramatic.
I'm fighting breast cancer and my husband left me for a younger women and I know that he's going to cry wen I leave him for good. As a DIVORCE WILL BE.
As someone who lives at 9600 feet and had popper play here for free (thanks again dude, that was fun)... i can attest to the that the mountains do always win... bad svy season this year... be careful kids... double b in the backcountry.... buddie and beacon...
"The Mountains Win Again" I pick up my smile put it in my pocket Hold it for a while try not to have to drop it Men are not to cry so how am I to stop it Keep it all inside don't show how much she rocked ya Ooh can you feel the same Ooh you gotta love the pain Ooh it looks like rain again Ooh I feel it comin' in The mountains win again The mountains win again Dreams we dreamed at night were never meant to come to life I can't understand the ease she pulled away her hand This time in my life I was hurt enough to care I guess from now on I'll be careful what I share Ooh can you feel the same Ooh ya gotta love the pain Ooh it looks like rain again Yeah feel it comin' in The mountains win again A pocket is no place for a smile anyway Someday I will find love again will blow my mind Maybe it will be that love that got away from me Is there a line to write that could make you cry tonight Can you feel the same Yeah ya gotta love the pain Ooh it looks like rain again Ooh feel it comin' in The mountains win again Ooh the mountains win again
@@ryanlynch2259 I'm not sure how you feel about this but I'll add you to my prayer list. Sometimes it helps you to know that there are people in your corner praying for you❤
Finally listened to this album front to back a few weeks ago. Its probably been played 2 or 3 dozen times since then. So many damn good songs! I heard this one on pandora and finally decided to give the whole album a shot. So glad I did!
I saw these guys en route to see The Grateful Dead back in '88 in Boner Springs, Kansas. They played at the University in Lawrence, Kansas....they were not famous, at the time, at least in the Midwest, but, WHAT a show!! We were trippin' shrooms on that road trip....Best 'o Times, EVER!!
If you notice the little girl in the limo dressed in white has a lisp when she mouthed the words. This little tidbit of info is courtesy of Pop-Up Videos on VH-1 circa 2003 I think lol
The mountains always win in my world..spiritually uplifting..this song being about depression is a nice backdrop for my visits to the mountains. It does elevate my mood better than anything.
Never knew there was a video for this song had a video. I'm sure it will get me in the feels when I watch it. The whole album is a gem, but this one stirs your soul especially. Cheers.
This video AND song are probably the best paired. What I am talking about is I talked to John Popper back in '01 and asked him about this exact song. He told me it was written purely about depression. I was too stupid to listen to the lyrics. Then watching this video, it is so artistically well done in pairing what he meant in the song and what was going on in the video. He is not only a great songwriter, but a really great guy.
i love how it shows it can hit anyone, any age, anywhere, anyhow, you just cant judge from appearances. have compassion, be humble, be kind, all those underrated things
saw these guys in las vegas at topgolf and they kicked ass. glad john popper's neck is doing ok after his surgery because he really did some great vocals and harmonica that night. weather was perfect too. anytime these guys come back to vegas I'm going to get some tickets for sure.
When I blast this song, I want to be with my best friend, driving down the strip in Myrtle Beach, smokin a fatty, not a fucking care in the world.....I miss the old days sometimes.
The Most Amazing Harmonica Playing I Have EVER Heard In My Life! Have always loved this band since I could remember. Great lyrics with meaning and beautiful voice.
There are alot of these songs like this from the 90s that are pure gold that most people have never heard of. The 90s just missed the era of mass communication. At least we have them.
It's hard to believe that it has been 30 years since I bought this CD. Oh to be 29 again. What a blast it was to be young.
Yeah. I member jamming this tune. Rio Costilla Park/ Latir Lake #3 ..11000 ft at full moon.
1994 with my best friend ..to this day. Good times ...epic tune.
I heard someone call the 90s "America's Longest Weekend " the other day. It was a great time to be ALIVE. Bittersweet.
Time never slows down.
It ain't over yet
I was 11 when I bought the CD! It’s been rotating in my favorite albums since then
This is a criminally underrated song
Criminally underrated band!
Too me this band and this song are the quintessential nineties music. It makes me miss the nineties so much. Great music!
I agree 100%
U got that right
Yep, most people never slow down to really listen anymore
This song makes we want to go back and just stay in the 90s forever.
Yes, exactly. Me too
exactly what I was thinking
Me to 😊
It was a simpler time

A coworker said why you want to give me a reach around when Run Around came on.
Fighting mountains is not possible. You are not Godzilla. Praise Jeebus!

Another band with a distinct sound that doesn't get enough cred. So love the wonder of this song, thank you John.

Dude well spoken. I've been here thinking of those days
It was 2007, driving with all the windows down across the desert in Nevada. Sun setting in the west, orange hue hugging the tops of the mountains around the valley. Thunderstorms far off in the distance silently flashing the sky white like fireworks.

Gotta love that view between Lafayette and Baton Rouge.
Brian Downey sounds beautiful. First time I'm hearing this song.. and I grew up in this era and their two main songs hook and run around. I like this one.

I loved this song as a kid in the 90s. I didn't have the capacity to appreciate John Popper's superhuman vocal range at that time-wow!

@@ph00z00Isn't it weird and awesome how we couldn't grasp the brevity then -but .. did
Here’s to simpler times and better days. Things are sure different than when this came out.
This song is absolutely miraculous! Why but why wasn't it a hit ???
It was in my world. But yeah this song deserved serious airplay.
Too complex of a chord progression. Key changes. Chromaticism. To write a hit, you can’t use any more than 4 chords. 😁
That's a super cool story...
Blues Traveler's music speaks to my soul. Enough said.
You aren't wrong.
My fav blues traveler song. His voice is amazing
I pick up my smile put it in my pocket
Hold it for a while try not to have to drop it
Men are not to cry so how am I to stop it
Keep it all inside don't show how much she rocked ya
Ooh can you feel the same
Ooh you gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Ooh I feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
The mountains win again
Dreams we dreamed at night were never meant to come to life
I can't understand the ease she pulled away her hand
This time in my life I was hurt enough to care
I guess from now on I'll be careful what I share
Ooh can you feel the same
Ooh ya gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Yeah feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
A pocket is no place for a smile anyway
Someday I will find love again will blow my mind
Maybe it will be that love that got away from me
Is there a line to write that could make you cry tonight
Can you feel the same
Yeah ya gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Ooh feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
Ooh the mountains win again
Thank you.
How does this not have a billion views?

Such an underrated song. I can't say it was under appreciated in its time; rather, I think it was never realized.

Blues Traveler performed this song live on the 4th of July from the Red Rock Amphitheatre in Colorado and that is what brought me here.
How on earth that man can play the harmonica the way he can is beyond me, but he is totally AWESOME 👌
Blues Traveler amazing voice, beautiful never ending melody to my soul and ears.
I love that feeling of never knowing if a harmonica or slide guitar is coming.
Gonna see John and the band this Friday in Pittsburgh... Can't wait!!!!

greatest blues traveler song ever. warren haynes is playing in this track. melts my heart every time.
Warren Haynes?? Daamn.. that's something I didn't know 😮
This is one of my absolutely favorite songs and they never really played it. Love the pain in the harmonica solo!
My son sent me this song. What a gift 🎁 😍
I absolutely love this band. You can tell that the lead singer loves the outdoors and mountains. Incredible.
Love when he makes that harmonica cry
I'm so mad that I never heard this song until last week. Such a great song!
Several years ago they played the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga. This was the song they finished their set with. It was amazing.
I was there too!
This and Bush's Glycerin and Greenday's Good Riddance was my cruch to get over breakups and keep my head up.
My best friend, my sister ended her life while living in Colorado and this very song played as we put her to rest. With all my love and bitter- sweet memories. Zen forever in my ❤miss you for the rest of my life
Can you feel the same? You gotta love that pain. Timeless
I totally forgot what a amazing music videos this was (When music videos were real art form) One of the best music videos of the mid 90's
Oh snap
Johns voice range is unbelievable
As someone who lives at 9600 feet and had popper play here for free (thanks again dude, that was fun)... i can attest to the that the mountains do always win... bad svy season this year... be careful kids... double b in the backcountry.... buddie and beacon...
One of the most powerful, soulful, emotional songs ever. I love to sing this because that last verse is sooooo much fun to power through
"The Mountains Win Again"
I pick up my smile put it in my pocket
Hold it for a while try not to have to drop it
Men are not to cry so how am I to stop it
Keep it all inside don't show how much she rocked ya
Ooh can you feel the same
Ooh you gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Ooh I feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
The mountains win again
Dreams we dreamed at night were never meant to come to life
I can't understand the ease she pulled away her hand
This time in my life I was hurt enough to care
I guess from now on I'll be careful what I share
Ooh can you feel the same
Ooh ya gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Yeah feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
A pocket is no place for a smile anyway
Someday I will find love again will blow my mind
Maybe it will be that love that got away from me
Is there a line to write that could make you cry tonight
Can you feel the same
Yeah ya gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Ooh feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
Ooh the mountains win again
I'm tired of crying. How do I get out of this hole
@@ryanlynch2259 breathe. And take it moment to moment.
@@patrickprafke4894 thanks brother.
Thank you for doing this ❤
@@ryanlynch2259 I'm not sure how you feel about this but I'll add you to my prayer list. Sometimes it helps you to know that there are people in your corner praying for you❤
So much soul in a world that desperately needs more.
You gotta love that pain- That has always stuck with me.
What a phenomenal group of people. I'd give just about anything to turn on the radio to hear something as decent as this.
Straight from the soul. Love it. I close my eyes and I'm in the Mountains Troubles forgotten..
The mountains always win in my world..spiritually uplifting..this song being about depression is a nice backdrop for my visits to the mountains. It does elevate my mood better than anything.
I wish they were still making music. I love this band. So much good listening.
Adam C they are, they have a new record coming out in a few months
And still touring!
Just got back from walking one home... More than my share of a bottle down... Here I am, and I'll be here many, many more times.
Why can't music sound this good anymore?
You are so right.
Damien Shaw Maybe we'll have another good generation of music. Maybe...

A POCKET IS NO PLACE FOR A SMILE ANY WAY
This song and sweet pain are my 2 favorite Blues Traveler songs
Real music. Real musicians. I miss this. Thank God for CZcams.
Simply LEGENDARY. THEY NEED A COME BACK ALBUM. CMON TRAVELERS! 2022
Colorado Rockies need to play this when they win games
When I blast this song, I want to be with my best friend, driving down the strip in Myrtle Beach, smokin a fatty, not a fucking care in the world.....I miss the old days sometimes.
I'm there right now, Smoking a Fatty!1 LOL
Dennis Hendrix Love it!!!
***** Nice! Good man!
Jessica Karikuza ha, well I was probably driving down from Camp Lejeune to look for you
matt west Military man? Excellent!!
I sat in English bay in Vancouver listening to this song. Talk about a peaceful time.
The Most Amazing Harmonica Playing I Have EVER Heard In My Life!
Have always loved this band since I could remember.
Great lyrics with meaning and beautiful voice.
This song gives me a good feeling because it reminds me of the guy I dated back in '96. Hi Michael S. 😁👋🏽😘
can't wait to get into this again when i'm like 70....
There are alot of these songs like this from the 90s that are pure gold that most people have never heard of. The 90s just missed the era of mass communication. At least we have them.
