Magnificent Century Episode 139: • Magnificent Century Ep...
The Magnificent Century takes leave with a breathtaking final episode. Suleiman gets plunged into darkness after Bayezid died and he gets even sicker. Selim tries to releive his pain falling back upon alcohol. Defne fights with all her strength to be able to protect her son. She understands there's no way out while she sees Nurbanu in front of her. The mother and her son walk towards the death holding onto each other. Mihrimah gets Nurbanu in a big trouble flaming with vengeance. Gülfem tries to kill Suleiman considering he is the responsible of everything has happened. However, the night ends with a dark secret. After the agony, Selim comes in the capital as the only heir to the throne. Mihrimah severs all ties with Selim since she sees him as a fratricide. Suleiman loses his strenght day by day and gets furious when he hears what his people talk about him.
And Suleiman the Magnificent goes for his last journey in a blaze of glory. An era ends while Suleiman the Sultan of the world gasps his life out!
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Because all these sufferings of Mahidevran, deaths, executions and sad moments at the palace, all these were Syleiman's errors. It was Syleiman's fault dearly. But Hurrem had also a huge participation at all problems and sufferings of Mahidevran and executions of Ibrahim(episode 82 and 83), Mustafa (123 and 124) and Kara Ahmed Pasha (episode 128). But Syleiman was the main responsible, Mahidevran was right, every single word of her was right. She just said the truth, but Mihrimah was so naive and she didn't believe her, but this is the truth. They had been through sufferings, that Syleiman had created for them. The worst part, is that Syleiman had been placed himself too to these sufferings all these years, but he never saw that he was making all his beloved ones sad and grieved.

Hurrem is really to blame for the death of Mustafa no less than Suleiman. Even more probably. Slander, which led to the death of an innocent person, is a very serious crime. In general, all the women of this family are guilty of the death of their beloved shehzade and all were punished for this. Mahidevran killed Mehmed and lost Mustafa. Hurrem killed Mustafa and lost Cihangir. Mihrimah had a hand in the murder of Mustafa and lost Bayezid. It is only a pity that the innocent shekhzade paid for the sins of these sultanas with their lives.

These women did everything for their children, they knew either their sons would be k!lled by suleiman or through fratricide so they did their best. Only and only suleiman is to be blamed, he's a grown man capable of making sound judgments esp as he's ruling 3 continents, and esp looking at the actual history, none of these women did anything. According to real history suleiman k!lled Mustafa becuz he was so loved by people suleiman was threatened and jealous of HIS own son. The day men are held accountable for their actions will be the day all cru3lty in the world will end. Also the shehzade's weren't innocent, most of them were plotting behind their brother's back for power, history is a proof of that, the men were the ones who made fratricide a practice and actively perpetuated it but oh well "poor men, they are way more intelligent than women until its about accepting accountability, then they are naive children. These men hold more power and influence than women and made decisions on their own but plz only women should be blamed becuz poor men cant do no wrong even tho they are majority of the m*rderers. All of them. But the world is cruel, deaf, arrogant, selfish and evil. That's why no one couldn't accept that Mahidevran was actually said the truth about Hurrem, Syleiman, Rustem, even about Selim. But here she is right, Syleiman was the only responsible for all these disasters. Otherwise, who would be so powerful in order to destroy all of these people in such a sort period time? There is truth, yes, but no one is capable to see it and understand it, so they should ask for forgiveness. The one who lives a miserable life, is not his fault always. Mahidevran didn't have nothing bad. She tried to protect his son, she lost her son and she was all alone until her death, 28 years after Prince Mustafa's execution. Her life was miserable because of Syleiman. Wasn't Syleiman the one who chose the life of the family? So why Mahidevran, Ibrahim Pasha or anyone else had a fault in these disasters? It was only Hurrem and Syleiman who caused all the disasters. And so, they left such a glorious state in the hands of one drunkard Prince, the most hated Prince, Prince Selim. From what Syleiman did, I think that he was a stupid, crazy old man, a tyran, a child-murderer, a brother-murderer (he killed his bosom friend, Ibrahim Pasha) and he prefered to kill Ibrahim and Mustafa, so Hatice and Mahidevran could be live in torture. He should kill Hatice and Mahidevran first, if he wanted to kill. But these two executions (Ibrahim and Mustafa) were two huge mistakes (the one would help him take all the world and the other would be able to expand the empire even more).

Yes. Mahidevran was right about Süleyman. And Hürrem did what she did because likewise she also had to fight for her kids. So if the blame falls on anyone's shoulders, it's squarely on his more than anyone else's. I also agree that she doesn't see her own blame. That said, I think it's because she represents the side that the writers favoured. So it's as much a blind spot on their parts as it is anything else.

    but also the emperor, who
should be fair in shouldering 2 different responsibilities. Our thinking as ordinary people is not the same as the emperor (Sultan) at that time. I’m not defending the atrocities he committed. Mahidevran is the most unlucky women in this show. First her husband didn't love her and left her for other women. He always put hurrem and her children first before Mahidevran and mustafa even though mustafa was oldest heir. Hurrem tried alot of times to kill mustafa by either sending concubines(efsun) or by either conspiring against him. She finally successfully plotted in suleiman's head that mustafa is a traitor but actually he was the most suitable shehzada among all hurrem's son's. After mustafa death mahidevran was forced to live in old Palace, suleiman also cut her monthly allowance but she by her own money did a lot of charity. And that cunning evil hurrem lived happily in Palace. What a fate to good people in this world.

Its very unfortunate to see, a king's greatness is considered on number of war he waged and the victories he made or the length of his reign. I feel one king's gretlatness should be evaluated on the living conditions of his subject, how much art and science is developed during his reign.whether they have been provided with sanitation, water, shelter, cloth, food etc. Unfortunately these are never be the parameters. That's the reason we still worship, kings who waged the maximum number of war and ironically every war weakens the strongest of strongest economies.

While the younger boys were the ones she watched growing up and caring for them since they were babies. So I think in terms of picking favorites out of the younger ones, Bayezid is it. Aka there is a difference between the one you trust to stand beside you and the one you find precious because you enjoying caring for & spoiling them. That type of favoritism.

Historically speaking Sultan Suleiman was unfortunatily a big dissapointment and a shame. God blessed this man with a huge empire, with great wealth, power, and everything else he could have wished of, yet he miserably failed most of them, instead of running a just policy with justice, quality and fairness he rather choose to be blind and unjust firstly by killing of his innocent sons that shook even his enemies, and choosing the least talented as his successor, and then out of all the wise men throughout the empire he chose to be manipulated and consulted by a only a lady who's only "quality" and goal was intrigue, personal interess, and bad fortune for the state, moreover Suleiman like all the rest of ottoman emperors never bothered to visit the Kabaa (islamic pilgrimage) he was so deep focused in trivial and foolish things that he could not even thing about the bigger things, even his military campaigns were weak and fail considering the fact that the empire he was leading was at its peak militarily and economically, the empire was not enlarged much at all during his reign, since again his focus was elsewere with harem intrigues and paronia. It is a historical fact that the Ottoman Empire experienced both its zenith and the begining of its downfall and stagnation at the very same time under sultan Suleiman's reign! (which is unbelievable!)

History doesn’t agree with you! 🥱🥱
“Under Süleyman, popularly known as “the Magnificent” or “the Lawmaker,” the Ottoman empire reached the apogee of its military and political power. Süleyman’s armies conquered Hungary, over which the Ottomans maintained control for over 150 years, and they advanced as far west as Vienna, threatening the Habsburgs. To the east, the Ottoman forces wrested control of Iraq from the Safavids of Iran. In the Mediterranean, their navy captured all the principal North African ports, and for a time the Ottoman fleet completely dominated the sea. By the end of Süleyman’s reign, Ottoman hegemony extended over a great portion of Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Geographic expansion, trade, economic growth, and tremendous cultural and artistic activity helped define the reign of Süleyman as a “Golden Age.” Developments occurred in every field of the arts; however, those in calligraphy, manuscript painting, textiles, and ceramics were particularly significant. Artists renowned by name include calligrapher Ahmad Karahisari as well as painters Shah Quli and Kara Memi.
In architecture, the most outstanding achievements of this period were the public buildings designed by Sinan (ca. 1500-1588), chief of the Corps of Royal Architects. While Sinan is often remembered for his two major commissions, the mosque complexes of Süleymaniye in Istanbul (1550-57) and of the later Selimiye in Edirne (1568-74), he designed hundreds of buildings across the Ottoman empire and contributed to the dissemination of Ottoman culture. Apart from mosques and other pious foundations-including schools, hospices, and soup kitchens, supported by shops, markets, baths, and caravanserais-Süleyman also commissioned repairs and additions to major historical monuments. The tile revetment of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, as well as several additions to sites in Mecca and Medina, the two Holy Cities of Islam, date from this period.
His work codifying laws earned the Sultan his Ottoman honorific “Kanunī,” or “law giver.” He is still remembered globally as Kanunī, a status that earned Süleyman a bas-relief in the U.S. Capitol Building as one of the world's great lawmakers.”
