Alec Steele Blacksmith 2016
Norwich, UK - Zábava
This entire vid is gold. Mad props not only to the forgers, but to the crew who does the video editing and timing the shots to the music.
I'd like to propose a petition to have Alec's name legally changed to Damascus Steele.
*one year later, looking at Alec's latest videos* Seconded!

Those Damascus hammers look beautiful! I'm starting to watch your videos more and more. I'm glad I subscribed to you. You make some of the most awesome Damascus steel I've seen. Great work man!
+Sharp Works Thank you so much sharp!!!
+Alec Steele Hey Alec, the hammers are truly beautiful, and I doubt that they will see much work, but are there any functional benefits of making a damascus hammer? For that matter, is there any functional purpose for damascus knives as well? I can imagine how something like a san mai construction could benefit a knife(having a very hard/high carbon core steel wrapped in softer steel to absorb shock), but I can't seem to figure out the functional purpose of the kind of damascus you make. Am I just an ignorant metallurgy plebeian or is it just art and I'm thinking too much about it?
Great Prophet Zarathustra
For the most part it's just for looking beautiful while still being able to cut (function) just as good as the individual steels you use in the billet would do by themselves. 👍
Great Prophet Zarathustra To answer that question. In the ancient past, when humans made metal, the carbon content was random, either to high or to low for useability. People would forge the metals together to get the steel right. The patterns in Damascus are a side affect. No, Damascus has no use in the modern age except as a form of decoration.
I recently got into blacksmithing and was given a forge as a gift. I wanted to thank you for all your instructional videos because they have helped to reach me many new teqniques i hope to use as I progress my skills.
I seriously cannot wait to start forging! Every time I watch ur video it is really giving me the itch! Stock removal is fun but this is next level! Can't wait to see more, Thank you for the videos!
