Stories like these are not stories you tell a child. A kids mind is like a sponge and to tell or teach a young child white or black is a disservice and would not produce any kind of positive. This is a moment in our history that a college or high school child learns about.

My father told me that Mamie was his 4th grade teacher. They used to ask her if she would have more kids after Emmett and she told them all once, "No. I'll never bring another child into this world." That story always made me feel terrible when my daddy told it to me.

Good morning Lynn. You said; "I'll never bring another child into this world."
Now, Lynn. No disrespect for Mamie Till. But she did not have a child for 14 years after Emmett was born. What would have been her reason for those 14 years.
      _________________________
The truth be known, Mamie married her 4th husband at age 36. Which would have meant that she cold have had a child at 37.
In those time 30 was the age at which you did not have more children. It was considered DANGEROUS to have a child at 35

Absolutely. And millions or women did. Maybe it was an irrational fear. I am just saying that might have been a factor.
And Mamie might have been so incredibly devastated by the loss of Emmett, she just did not want to climb back on that horse again.
Plus Mamie had moved on. The tragedy propelled Mamie into her education, getting a BS, and Ms, teaching, she had a fully productive life.

Emmett Till's murder was a watershed moment in the civil rights movement. That last senseless violent death POC were willing to tolerate. Rosa Parks said she thought of Emmett Till the second before she made her stance against racist laws. Miss Maime's boy did not die in vain.
Below is an excerpt from Parks' interview with Eyes on the Prize a documentary television series about Civil Rights Movement.
Parks later said about being asked to move to the rear of the bus, "I thought of Emmett Till - a 14-year-old African American who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, after being accused of offending a white woman in her family's grocery store, whose killers were tried and acquitted - and I just couldn't go back." Blake said, "Why don't you stand up?" Parks responded, "I don't think I should have to stand up." Blake called the police to arrest Parks. When recalling the incident for Eyes on the Prize, a 1987 public television series on the Civil Rights Movement, Parks said, "When he saw me still sitting, he asked if I was going to stand up, and I said, 'No, I'm not.' And he said, 'Well, if you don't stand up, I'm going to have to call the police and have you arrested.' I said, 'You may do that.''

I'm here by way of Mobile Instinct. I think I'll hang around a while. Looks like I have two new channels to subscribe to....but honestly, thank you for shedding more light on this subject.
The Emmett Till story makes me more emotional than any movie scene I've ever watched. His mother was a smart, brave woman. She KNEW that Mississippi authorities were going to try to sweep this under the rug. Controversial as it was, publishing his photos gave the whole "sunshine and rainbows" crowd a REAL glimpse into the potential horror of what some garbage people will try to get away with. Instead of Chicago having an unsolved missing person case, and Mississippi having an unidentified John Doe she turned on the proverbial flashlight and told the world "Look at what they did! Don't just hear the rumors, and the tales spun by the guilty party's associates...but LOOK at what they did!"
I'm rambling a bit...sorry. It's a bad habit of mine...but I think the double jeopardy amendment should have an addendum...because people who fool the juries and judges of the world and get out of criminal charges can LITERALLY say out loud "yea, I did it" and because there's already been a trial, nothing can be done. I understand the usefulness of the amendment, but much like any common Batman storyline, someday someone important will realize there's circumstances in which protective laws become shackles. The concept conceived to aid an innocent person has been used the wrong way, and now the law is working against itself.
Futility. The art of defeating the purpose.

@@deneendammons2797 Deneen, I was a small child, living on the westside of Chicago, when Emmett, died. They were talking about this the WORLD OVER and in Chicago, EVERYBODY was mad, angry, shocked, and deeply disturbed about what happened to Emmett. Some people were OUTRAGED. I have watched this case all of my life. I was on that small march that was did at the cemetery on the 50th university of his death. Some of his family members were there and a man that had recently written a book about the case. I met one of your cousins, that was there when they came and got Emmett. I think he lived in Countryside, Illinois. We talked briefly. He stated that he was at the store, the day Emmett, whistled at the white woman. I read, "The Death of Innocence" also. When Mamie died, I was at her services, at the church on Cottage Grove. As you can see, I have followed this case since I was a child. My aunt, was a member of Roberts Temple for over 60 years. She was also, one of the women in white, that was at the funeral that day. I use to hear her talk about how many people that was there, and how some of them fell out, after seeing that young boy's militated body. She use to say, "I don't know what kind of people, could have done that to a child." I am glad to see that they are turning Emmett's home into a museum. That is long overdue. When I found the address Emmett, was living at when he died, I use to drive by and look at the building. I always got an eerie feeling, thinking about him. When I am in that neighborhood, and drive down 63rd and St. Lawrence, I ALWAYS think about Emmett. Its like, I knew a kid that once lived this neighborhood, that got killed down South. When I drive by Mamie's home in Chatham, I think about what she went through. (I found out about where they lived, from reading the book.) When I drive through Argo, I think about them. What more can I say, except, you, and your family, have my heartfelt sympathy.
      PS
It seem as though, people have tried to bury this case. When people talk about the "I Have a Dream" speech, they never say, "Eight years ago, to the very day, is they day they killed, Emmett Till." That has ALWAYS annoyed me. However, I don't believe Chicagoans, will ever forget.

That just shows the American mind set you have, you should really do some indepth learning about real history. Remember it is history without it we would be no future. And slavery is still alive today but lets just look over that while we focus on history we can never forget but humanity is on the verge of collapse at the moment with whats going on. Emmett was a very handsome child and I can see he had joy in him looking into his eyes in the picture. My heart hurts for him, but for his mother. I have so much respect for standing strong and not allowing the sheriff for the burial of Emmett in Mississippi. By being a strong woman she allowed the world to know what had happened to her son. When it's gone past the point of having her son alive it's time to fight for your child. Fight for the world to see and move people to put a stop to these horrible murders. She help light the fire for civil rights. And I hope she had some peace in the end. There so much more to this story that's came out. And I hope the full turth will come out and by investigation find all who was involved for guilty. Dead or alive those people names should go down in history as the murders as associated with the murder of a young man, who was turly still a child. Not guilty verdicts should be over turned because there was never a full investigation or fair trail for justice of Emmett murder most foul.

It made me so mad and heartbreakingly sad and filled with admiration for his family, particularly his mother...the guts and true integrity it must have took his mother to expose this atrocity and the cover up.
