Why do none of these videos show these VP racing fuel cans actually being used? I bought four of them and so far have found them to be incredibly difficult to use, aren't fast and spill fuel all over. I figure I must be doing something wrong technique-wise and am searching for an answer but I am just finding sales pitches.
Hi Jon, When dispensing the fluid, do not hold the container all the way vertical at 90 degrees because the fluid may drain out of the air valve. Instead, tilt the container slightly at a 45-degree angle so air can flow through the valve, giving you a smooth pour. Also, check under the cap and make sure the rubber gasket is still there because if you’re missing the gasket, it will definitely leak. We hope this helps.
@@EarlOwenCompanyCarrollton I use them for filling up a push mower, lawn tractor, ATV and a dirt bike and if these fuel cans are more than a quarter full, gas will spew out of the vent valve when you are trying to fill because it is so close to the spout. Plus they are an awkward shape that's very difficult to manage one-handed as you are filling. I'm only using these for bird feed and looking for something better for fueling.

10/2022 CarQuest gas can/customer complaint I bought a heavy duty VP gas can there (CarQuest on Broad St., Sumter, S.C.) around last November. I kept noticing fuel around the base of it, but kept thinking that I hadn't tightened the cap enough until last week. I left it sitting in the bed of my pickup for a while and noticed that I had about a half gallon of diesel all over my bed liner. It had a slow drip through a flaw in the seam on the bottom where the mold halves joined. Looking through the filler neck you can see a crack that is about 5/8" of an inch long in the seam. This is a manufacturing flaw, not any kind of damage. As a matter of fact, I have never had a plastic gas can that leaked, even a cheap one. long story short, I took it back to CarQuest expecting them to make it good, and trade it for another one, never expecting them to give me an argument over the thing. I am a long time customer, but apparently the new guy in charge, Lee, does not value old customers. Without even a cursory examination of the container, he announced that he had no control over how it was used and that it was an old can with a faded label(?). The rude manner that I was spoken to is a real first for me as a customer with a legitimate, provable complaint. All this over making a product that they sold good. So much for CarQuest.. I see that several of their nearby locations have closed. Maybe this kind of thing is why. Then I called VP customer service. That was an eye opener. I was told that it was not a gas can but a fuel container, not to be used for gasoline, diesel or any long term storage of these or other liquids. This in spite of their ads that described them as gas cans for long term storage of all kinds of fuels. Long story short, I am stuck with a $45 fuel container that leaks. It has not been abused, in fact it still looks new. These people will not stand behind their products, so I thought I would let everybody that will listen know. By the way, I am a retired mold maker for the rotational plastics plastics molding industry with 40 years of experience making molds for polyethylene tanks and containers. I know manufacturing defects when I see them. Jim
@@chevyon37s Thanks, but I bought it in good faith.. They knew EXACTLY what I was going to use it for. CARQUEST didn't say anything about fumes or CARB, whoever the hell they are. The bottom line: All I wanted was a good gas can and spent $45.00 on one that leaks and won't be made good....
@@chevyon37s By the way, I have screen shots of the various ads on places like Ebay that call them GAS cans for LONG TERM storage of gasoline and other liquids...
More than likely it was your fault it broke. They are perfectly fine for storing fuel in them, even though they can't advertise them that way anymore thanks to California. Anyway, if you have the jug full or even half full with gasoline, and you have the vent cap shut, it's possible for enough pressure to build up to break the seam. The first thing that should happen is the vent cap should crack, bit that doesnt always happen. If it doesn't then the seam will split. This happens on warm to hot days. It's part of the reason they say not to leave these in the sun. This is not a VP specific problem. Any fuel jug will do this. It happened to one of my jugs while I was out riding at Durhamtown. First the vent cap split. I replaced it with another one. Next the seam split, but I didn't know until I saw gasoline in my truck bed.
You can save it to plug the hole in the cap if you want to take the hose off for transport at some point in time. If you don't plan on taking the hose off you can discard it, it's really up to you.
I bought these VP Racing Fuel Jugs and I bought the VP Racing Trigger Hose and it is way better then the regular hose they sell. Also, bought the Terra Electric Fuel pump for the Jugs and this thing a game changer. Has anyone had any issues storing 94 octane or 91 octane gas in these things for longer periods? Can it leech? Just want to confirm because I can't get any answers even from VP Racing HQ (probably because of possible legal issues). I am assuming it's just because of bullshit laws on colour of cans, design and safety stamping and nothing to do with the actual build quality but if someone could confirm this it would be greatly appreciated.
I would agree with this assessment! Only good for what was described! The flow is sooooo slow on these so called racing jugs. The breather is in the wrong spot. I will modify. Can’t believe they messed this up! Not happy overall with these jugs
I just bought 3 of these jugs and was not impressed at all. Seal is terrible too they may leak from the main cap and red plug. Also the breather is a terrible design. ‘Fuel’ will spill all over out of that breather no matter what you do until it’s almost empty.
I don’t get it. I figured there was something special about how the fill or something. Nope, and extra tools to undo the cap, and fill hose sold separately?! Wtf, think my standard fuel can works just fine. I don’t get the hype.
Its because these bottles don't have the Gov't regulated "spill proof" nozzle so they have to be marketed as "fluid" containers. It's a work around for a problem that shouldn't exist, but does because idiot bureaucrats.
You get them because of the colors to match your dirt bike or atv or SxS. Or you get one thats clear, so you can easily see how much fuel is left. Thats the point. Also, you can fill most of them up to either 5.5 or 6 gallons. New official gas cans come with a silly safety cap that spills a lot, and can be hard to use. These VP style jugs are simple and easier to use. It's a no brainer.
These cans suck. Very awkward to hold the nozzle and lift the full weight of the can without breaking your wrist. Plus if you want the hose to angle a bit you have to buy yet another part for it. I bought two of them because all the cool guys had them at the track. Now I just use regular gas cans. Much easier and safer for filling.
I never hade a plastic tank that leaked in 50 years. Maybe I have just been lucky all my life. But then I never owned a VP "container" before.. Lucky me..

How do you stop the slosh out of the vent hole?
It's all about the tilt of the container.
I stopped mine by throwing it in a dumpster. Leaky POS...
Watch how your pouring it. It should pour without having to tilt it that far over. If not, get a longer hose so you tilt it less.
Are they good to pour gas into mowers with spout. Thanks
