Increase vent size to 2" and place at bottom, increase filler hose size to 2" (id) and you'll get ±55 (GPM) or empty in less than 5 sec !
FYI: the plastic end piece is the size it is, is to allow you to put fuel in a car with the unleaded restrictor plate.
I am sure you could fit an even larger discharge hose, maybe even up to 1 & 1/2 inches. A larger vent tube as well.
If you could put a pipe on the vent inside the can, to the bottom, then when inverted, you would eliminate the glug glug.
great idea t5he vent isnt in the best place but by extening a hose to bottom it will vent when inverted , and be safer than modufieing the can bellow the gas level
Nice mod. I made the mistake and bought some Uline metal gas cans. They're good for many reasons but to fill a tank is a nightmare....Again, nice mod!

Your pipe adapter restricts the flow. Either drill the cap to 1" or get a 3/4" hose. 1" from cap to end of hose should cut a significant number of seconds from the drain time.
Exactly. If you have 3/4 on top of the cap, you could have a 2" on the other end but the restriction of the 3/4" opening won't give you the flow you want. Change cap out or drill like noted above.
did you try the can with big fuel hose but original vent? it does not seem like your vent is much of an improvement usually you only need a small vent compared to nozzle size
Nice but while storing you need to have a stopper on that vent line right? Unless that 90 bend has a one way check valve.
is the vent open to air at all times, would be better if you included a shut off valve? what if it gets knocked down. you can hear the water gurgling in the canister, there's gotta be a better place for vent placement.
What about placing the vent hole to the bottom of the jug. Either mounted on the outside or utilize the factory vent hole and insert a draw tube all the way down to the bottom of the jug. No gurgling drag.

You are almost there. I filled a car this season with this setup except for one thing you need to do with your vent line. You will figure it out!
Run dual vent tubes. Vent should be at least the same size as drain hose. Nice video!

I remember reading that some series races require an sfi or whatever certified can. Does a modded can still count as certified?
These cans are legal with Lucky Dog Canada and should be legal with Champcar. Several teams have done similar mods and dont have any issues (as long as they dont leak). From my research, no leaks, 5 gallons max, and gravity feed is all they really care about. I could be wrong though...
Nice, it would be smart to actually time it out proper. It was definitely faster with your mods but I would be curious with actual time on all of them not just estimates. Either way cool video. I just bought a VP Racing Fuel Jug but I bought the VP Racing Fuel Trigger Hose instead of the regular one and I am very glad I made that decision. It is a much better hose than the regular one.

You want the vent on the bottom, the vent drawing air through the fuel is slowing you down...drill a hole and plug it with a closeable valve....1.invert can 2. Open valve...BOOM!
Any cheap check valves that could work instead of the long hose and the inevitable spillage?
Good idea, might slow the flow but worth looking into for next season! These did work great this year but always room for improvement!
You went from 3/4 inch NPT to 1" hose? The 3/4 inch NPT is still a restriction. Anything larger than the ID of the 3/4" adaptor is of little use. The vent opening and not going under the ID (interior dimension) of the 3/4 inch NPT fitting are the important factors.
I swapped the outlet fitting from a 3/4" hose outlet to a 1" hose outlet and left the rest of the can completely stock. To empty 5 gallons from stock 1:05 to 29 seconds. The NPT is not the restriction, it's the 3/4" hose fitting ID which is smaller in diameter than the NPT.
I am looking for good gas containers that the government hasn't screwed up yet. Do these gas containers last long time ? Storage in garage thru heat and cold ?
They wouldnt be good after the mods i did as they no longer seal for storage. This is strictly for dumping fuel on put stops.
I was looking for a good gas container too. I was sold one of these at Carquest that has a hole in the seam where the mold halves joined on the bottom. II took it back to Carquest and they wouldn't even look at it despite it having a very obvious defect on the bottom. " We don't have any control over how you use a gas can". I have never had a plastic gas can that leaked in 50 years. I guess I was just lucky, but then I never had a VP gas can either. Then I called VP to let them know that I have a can with a defect... Would you believe that they told me that it wasn't to be used as a gas can or for storage of fuels? I took the liberty of taking a screen shot of their ads that say otherwise, by the way. I figured that they would at least care about their reputation if not customer satisfaction and stand behind their product. That ain't the case. I got a ration of S___T and excuses that is hard to believe. I can eat the $45 for the gas can. All I wanted was a heavy duty high quality gas can. This is just to let anybody interested what to expect from VP over something that costs VP probably less than $15.
Can I ask a dumb question? Fuel spills all over the place out of my exact same race jug from the vent tube(when filling). Why didn't they put it in a better place? Is there a way to prevent this? Am I doing something wrong 😕? White race jug for reference...
Start the fill with it closed and give it a few seconds to pull a vacuum, then open it. No spill!

Use VP hose on VP jug
Don't want to call this stupid, but just swapping the 3/4"npt X 3/4" hose fitting to a 3/4" npt X 1" hose fitting and using a 1" hose reduces the fill time for 5 gallons from 1:05 to 29 seconds without any additional modifications.
If you made the vent pipe bigger it would drain even faster.
Utilize a Flo-Fast system
you need a red or another brand that can literally dump like 10 gallons in 5 seconds
Champcar restricts to jugs labeled 5 gallons.

dumb idea if you need absolute speed. prick a co2 canister throw it inside the tank, screw on cap and fill.

Holy shit bro. That wasn’t smart at all. How did they turn out ? The problem I think is that when driving with cans full of fuel, they will splash up to the vents and keep leaking out all over the surface or bed below. Extremely messy.
They turned out great....We used them all season long without any issue!
We transport our fuel in 55 gal drums, these are just for pit stops. The intention is for fast pour not sealed jug so you're right they would be terrible in the bed of a truck...
$200 with these current gas prices😭
