- Back in 1982, Imagination dropped the incredible album - 'In the Heat of the Night'. So many amazing tunes on it but the one that stands out for me is 'Just an Illusion'. It get's the Friday Funk Jam treatment today and features my Rhodes electric piano which was one of my first acquisitions when I started assembling a studio. 🎹🔮🎹
Drums - Linn Lm1
Bass - Moog Multimoog
Electric Piano - Rhodes Mk1 Stage Piano
Strings - E-mu Emulator ii
Synth Chords - Roland Jupiter 4 - Hudba
Man I wish these were longer, so many bangers!
Me too, excellent job. I also adore Imagination's "Music & Lights", very beautiful Discofunk song, from 1982. Wish that Mr. Million will also make his rebuild, for this song.
Profffff...!!
🧠💪🎼🙋♂️
I mean you could just go listen to the original
Never has pitch-bent synth bass felt so good. No wonder Imagination built a whole career around that sound.
1982- Inter rail travelling across Europe with my cousin, bought this single in Paris after listening to it in Italy, this was the times🤩
That bassline is mint
The original is FAR better
Played on a Wal bass with an envelope filter if my 40 year flashback is correct.
@@adamgilbert8474 Nope!
@@adamgilbert8474 According to Tony Swain it was the Roland sh1000 through a Boss ce-2 chorus pedal and then compressed with a dbx 160
stinky as pHk
Luke my man!!! The cuts you recreate are literally my faves! These cuts were very synth heavy which I absolutely loved! That bass line with the right amount of pitch is key to that sound. Best recreation I’ve heard besides the original! Kudos again my brother!
This was bananas. These synths sound amazing. An played by true player.
I love Imagination !
Just genius - the sound of ‘82
Love how you just have such cool flow and enjoy playing just brilliant
Excellent. The memories this brings back. I think I have the 7 inch single of this in my collection. It's 1982 all over again when life was fun once more and there was plenty of good music like this to go to school to.
I play 🎹🎹🎹🎹 .. I know Imagination would of loved this tribute ...... Phenomenal!!!! 👍🏿

Nice!! Specially, Love that part you played on the Rhodes!! Keep it up👍👍
These sounds could probably last like an endless loop in my mind, never getting bored
Nice, good sound selection and solid performance... Imagination forever!!
Still loving that song 🎵
Thanks for showing how they did it. 👊👏
If anyone is interested, Leee (yup, that's how he spells it) John from Imagination is doing a gig at Esher theatre in Surrey on October 1st 2022. Considering the gig is called 'just an illusion' it's a fair bet this song will come up.
Well done and great collection of keyboards/synths!
WOW you nailed it! One of my favorite songs of all times. Thanks for sharing
Everything about the 80's. This channel inspires me and my machines. ty
This is an incredible, timeless jam. And I love your interpretation/cover!
You are SO amazing!! Love your style… and your collection of vintage instruments is spectacular!!!
Please make a longer version! This sounds fantastic!
Wonderful and short! Like the life
That song is one of my favorite fron the 80 era. Nice recreation from the best!
Gave me goosebumps, 1982 you totally nailed it. Cheers
GREAT!!!! The firt 2 Imagination albums are 2 masterpieces!!!!!
Great cover :-) Wondeful song!
Oh dude, you just gave me chills.
This was a brilliant movie and this song, wow.
Im off to listen to the whole song.
Thanks 4 the upload.
Yeah I got the feeling... You groove man!!!
Wow! How did I get here! It's 10pm in Thailand and I'm just reliving this 40 years ago moment!
Great job guy! Me and my son (4 years old) listening for hours and hours!
I've had a MicroMoog for 32 years and I never got it to sound like that.. Kudos my friend.
I LOVE this song so much and somehow just recently discovered... thanks for covering it Luke!!!
😍 1982 Paris- I was Interrailing trough Europe together with my cousin.
This one was high on the chart during that summer all over Europe and in Paris I managed to get a 45'er (7 inch ).
Once home it was already off the charts but I still loved it and I still do.
The baseline is epic.
That's 99.99999% just an illusion!! You are so good
Bravo !! Pensa che quasi tutti gli strumenti musicali di quegli anni li ho suonati e alcuni posseduti. Io del 1960 nel 1978 già stavo in giro a suonare. Ci portavamo in giro quintali di peso. Erano troppo belli quegli strumenti. Sei molto bravo. 👌👍✋
This is one of the best ! Especially the arpeggios in the end. Please keep going. It's awesome Luke !
I love this song! Still in my playlist today. Well done :)
Absolutely gorgeous, love this so very much...Thank you
Mate ! that last solo was worth a million
These sounds give me goosebumps. Awesome!
Very nice playing, and also very close...
My eyes bugged out to that phat bass, right, but with portamento. Brilliant. Instant like.
Why does everything from you sound so much fuller and better than everything on CZcams? Its amazing! Even high quality records can hit your uploads.
Hi Luke very great Cover with super Sounds
I was a teen in the 80s. At first I hated synths....looking at you Van Halen. but then they grew on me...stuff like Howard Dolby, Eurythmics, Herby Hancock. And now I miss them so much.
Oh man, you're absolutely killing it !
Wow those EP parts are genius
This guy has Emulators and everything, Nice !!
Totally brilliant - I agree with the comment below - I'd like to hear the full, extended version (5 - 7 plus minutes) please.
Beautiful! Greetings from Brasil.
Imagination (or whoever produced them) were one of the few bands that used the Roland TB303 as it was designed. I always loved that sound.
Red bus records in North London
@@tijay8507 thanks for that Ti Jay

Me quede con ganas de mas Imagination..por favor un album instrumental con todos estos exitos.

OMG! so much funk oozing from that moog its dripping!
Yeeeeeh another successful Friday Funk Jam!
Thank you Luke and may the force be with you.
I stood taking to Leee John at a bar 30 years ago, after he did a set in a night club. lovely guy.
Great music here. The end with effects communicated the illusion mentioned in the title.
Fantastic!!!
Uh, uh, yeh, yeh!
Lovely!
Love that Rhodes.
You are an artist!
Great live performance! Love your channel.

Thanks for the kind words. Really inspires me to keep doing what I do :)
Awesome stuff! I need more!
your bass is even funkier than the original, so much rhythm
Love this Music. Also love the moovie.
You went a long way off at the end but still a nice tribute to Imagination.... the band is still going strong with Leee John as the front man!
Que hermoso sonido, y añosos recuerdos, saludos desde 🇨🇱
Siempre se corta en lo mejor... cuando uno ya a cogido la frecuencia del ritmo...

Superbe. Quelle facilité ;-)
Marvellous
Very Nice, Bravo
Just wow!!!!
What a banger this was back in the day!
this is amazing
Top job!
Stunning!!!
In a hundred years practice could never play keys that well, some people just born naturals.
Amazing.
Ça c'est un pro bravo❤
Esto es excelente me suscribo!
Love it!
Inspirational . Nice work 🙌
very GOOOOOOOD!!!!!
Great work there Luke. You really took me back with that beautiful MultiMoog there. I was more familiar with the MicroMoog until the band I went to play with (Rare Essence) from Washington, DC had a MultiMoog and many other classic synths of yesteryear. I'm sure they're all still locked away in the basement where we used to rehearse. Man how I miss the sound of that thing.!

Fantastic
I still play imagination EVERY DAY.
FANTASTIC JOB, MAN!!!
That was awesome!
