Parts of this feel slightly “roll and move”-plus. Does the drafting elevate this enough for you to keep it from feeling “samey”?
We do love Tokaido. Thanks for the run through.

sure this is very much a roll & move style game, but one where you've got control. i didn't think of it until now, but you could consider it a lighter gateway to stefan feld's Merlin, which is probably the heaviest and most crunch roll & move out there (and which is fantastic) :)

    Appreciated!
In similar fashion to the original, this seems like a game with a LOT of components, and little substance.. just in a smaller scale. Personally, I think the production is what will draw people in (Naiade doing excellent work again), as the actions just feel like busy-work. The original at least had actual control over your actions (with the movement mechanic taken from Glen More). Here, the Dice and Drafting just feel stapled on! They definitely should have allowed you to move less than what you rolled, since I can't imagine picking from 2 bad actions (2nd Player on first turn, for example) not being particularly fun.
BTW, the "Gold Bars" are Ryō..

you've got a fair bit of control here, over both your own moves AND your opponents, which is where the substance of the game comes from. if you're not paying attention to your opponents needs in this game (and in the original) i can see why it would seem a bit flat :)

Yeah I don't care for the dice. I wonder to what degree you could just...remove them? The very zen feel of the original is a little lost here. Could be whoever goes first picks a worker to move, and the other person can't select that worker, but otherwise cree choice on movement within the limits of the dice. I have to imagine you'd end up about the same but less feels-bad moments. Agree that the art/design is inspiring.

Board is very vanilla. It could have had some color. Looks like a prototype board. The original game board looked so much more charming and inviting. I’m also not liking the stealing mechanic. The original game was more of a zen journey.

      certainly seems possible

Feels like a missed opportunity. Particularly the Artist third of the game. Just feels banal and not so thematic to be dropping off works of art at the place you supposedly drew it. The game really suffers for a lack of "progress" tokens too (to use 7 Wonders Duel nomenclature). Could you not gain a super powerful ability each time you do a lap of the island, or sell your first triple to a port town. I wish they got Bruno Cathala in on this too. The design just feels a little inert.

Awesome video as always. And not that I need any more two person games, but you can't have too many, right? By chance, do you know when this game will be released?
