2:49 'videogames have always been political' - oh yes, when I was a kid playing Galaxians, Tron, Outrun, Star Wars, Robotron, Darius, Mr Do, and then Elite, Sentinel, Falcon, Wipeout, Tomb Raider, Counterstrike, Civilization, etc etc. all I was thinking was GOD THIS IS POLITICAL.
@@jekblom123 As long as stories have morals, they will all have philosophy sure, but to say that all games with morals contain politics is a bit of a stretch of the definition of "politics"
@@Fighterff9 Ha ha ha! Sorry... You are wrong. Minecraft had no genders. Now it has. It was ""Fixed""... (Microsofts doing) Like just the fact the Minecraft creator made a non gender game with the default character called "Steve" is enuf to call it political messaging. And also the community around Minecraft has turned into fantasy rape videos against womens here on CZcams thanks to MC animation programs.... Just how easy it is to talk about ""problems in society"" with that awful and down right creepy horny theenage boy fantasy shite... Urrgg.... Edgy cool boys...... Fuck the internet
Not to be that dude but there were actually some really interesting Russia v America politics going on around Tetris. I highly recommend Game Historian's video about it czcams.com/video/_fQtxKmgJC8/video.html
No, idiot. since the days of Mortal Kombat or earlier. Many politicians wanted to ban these games and the developers and politicians fought to have these games to actually be widely available. A lot of people here weren't alive and are now being influenced by a madlad proudboy who hasnt got fucked in 10 years.
I can't wait till it goes online! These sites are dead and soon this one and more like it will replace it. We're tired of the politics, toxicity, pandering, and bullshit. Make it like it always was when I was a child, an unbiased view on games!
SJWs are Narcissistic losers who think that attacking people is justice. It's a sick delusion of feeling good about doing something to a bad person and ever so looking for the next feeling of power. Except they look for bad, even where it doesn't exist.
It was literally designed as a girl's game based on eating because the game developer said he wanted to make a girl's game and thought that's what girls like. But no, there's no reason to discuss weird or historic design decisions which were influenced by culture and politics, that would just ruin everything by making my brain do thinky things about stuff I like, and thinking only leads to double-plus un-happy feelings.
@@sparrowthesissy2186 He never said it was aimed toward females because he thought they liked eating...(I just read the wiki), but even IF that were true, that doesn't make the game it self political. Nothing about playing Pac Man OR Ms Pac Man, throws politics in your face. The reasoning behind developing the game was not the question. Gamers are sick of politics being blatantly shoved inside the game world, not of why the game was made or the political views of the developer. "Iwatani attempted to appeal to a wider audience-beyond the typical demographics of young boys and teenagers. His intention was to attract girls to arcades because he found there were very few games that were played by women at the time.[48] This led him to add elements of a maze, as well as cute ghost-like enemy characters. Eating to gain power, Iwatani has said, was a concept he borrowed from Popeye."
Pac Man was a game obviously about Colonialism. (which as we all know is a white people thing) Pac Man moves from region to region exploiting and consuming their resources unless opposed and stopped by the local minorities, aka the ghosts. The ghosts obviously represent brave freedom fighters in glorious and righteous opposition to the evil colonials. The game was a electronic protest against the exploitative practices of the USA and Western European countries and most of the audience was simply to ignorant and arrogant to realize it was jab directed at them and their abusive ways, Pac Man was not the good guy. There, I explained it to you. Thanks for waiting.
"At least I wasn't robbed by a woman" .... .... .... .... Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these people. If I get robbed I'm going to be just as bloodthirsty enraged no matter the gender of the person who robbed me.
The issue is that's the view they have: the idea that the typical gamer is often times sexist, homophobic, racist, or things along those lines. It's sad but it is what it is...
I said I'd get mad, I didn't say I'd take the law into my own hands. But, the point (you are all deliberately missing) is that I'd get equally mad no matter who robbed me. I'm not going to be happier that I wasn't robbed by a woman. Thieves are thieves, don't care the gender, don't care the excuse.
I feel like I’ve heard this “its the customer’s fault” statement a lot of times already....And I’m pretty sure they didn’t end that well *cough* EA *cough* Guild wars developer
20 years ago in Everquest 1 it was a meme already that players would report bugs on the forum ... and the moderators would answer with "everything is working as intended" ...
Course we know Tetris was made by the Commies to sabotage Western industry through its simple yet highly addictive gameplay. That's why I refuse to play it to this day. The history of video games is nothing but a cultural-political war strewn with the corpses of titles that just weren't ideological enough to make it.
What??? Only ~657 butthurt "'gaming' journalists'" who are butthurt that some "nobody" on CZcams is creating content that they are too lazy and incompetent to create on their own?
U needed to finish first to win. Evils of meritocracy. "Everything is political, every politics is identity politics" boils down to hatred of competence. It's much easier to imagine that competence can't be acquired and mankind is just playing power games starting with the language itself
Trust me, literature was always political. Examples: The Clouds made fun of Socrates, Robin Hood was anti-Prince John/pro King Richard, Seneca basically was showing how people should not behave and Dante's Inferno is full of cardinals and popes from his time. Hell, Shakespere bashed and praised political figures all the time.
I think you might be confused about what political means, ESRB is a good example how everything in video games has a political based platform. and a recent example is many countries looking at lootbox lawfulness. video games arent the wild west, the government has a heavy hand no matter what country youre in.
Art(and Video Games, because they are art imo) isn't always political. It always conveys a message. What that message is is open for discussion. Maybe some lecture about equality, importance of friendship, blablabla or (in that these people are right) about contemporary political issues. But to assume everything anyone makes is (or has to be) bound to some political agenda is, again, in my opinion, straight up wrong. And for my joke: Don't you all remember Animal Crossing showing a middle finger to capitalism, because as you pay off your debt you're being oppressed and abused by Tom Nook. And that this circumstance can be interpreted into economic inequalities in the world. It could be about showing you the value of things, to not take these things for granted and to be thankful to the person helping you by giving them what's due(you don't even have to pay your debt and if you do there's no interest lol)....AHHH,FUCK THAT! CAPITALISM JUST SUCKS!!!!!!! (And yes, there is a Kotaku article about it)
Like how Pong, all early sports games, Frogger, Pac-Man, all Mario games, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. were made to convey messages, amirite..? No, that's completely wrong. Sometimes people create things, ranging from incredibly simple to as complex as a video game, without injecting messages into their creations, and that's okay. Thinking in absolutes is generally not a good idea, as proven yet again here.
"Politics have always been in gaming" - They're right, i always remember those hard-hitting political messages that were forced down my throat when i played Ocarina of Time, and Star Fox 64, and Halo 3, and God of War, and Doom, and Half Life, and Dark Souls, and XCOM, and... oh... oh wait.
Well in Star Fox 64 you actually play as a furry, not a fox. The message in that is that furries should be openly accepted and promoted. In XCOM, every race and gender can fight together and we are powerful as a team. Clearly they want to remove borders. In ocarina of time there was that one super secret temple in which link expresses his homosexuality and sucks mad dick. The message was that gay people could save the world as well as straight people. So with that in mind, I’d say a fair few games were, indeed, politically motivated. If anyone knows of anymore they should comment it in this thread
There's also the distinction of nuance, games that do have some kind of political or historical theme have a wide perspective and allow the player to come to their own conclusions, and not to preach a specific message at them. Spec Ops the Line for example. What im saying is there's a difference between political themes and just politics/propaganda.
I don't think analyzing a game in a cultural or political way is necessarily bad. However, politics at the moment are far off in the deep end of crazy. Too many voices are screaming sexism, micro aggression, and cultural appropriation without putting actual thought into their accusations. I am happy that this channel is promoting its own way to view gaming, but keep in mind that the medium is a beautiful way to experience multiple facets of life.
I'm so glad I recently found this channel. Watching your videos is therapeutic. Finally, an articulate voice to everything I've been feeling for years!!!
"Video games have always been political." Ah, yes, how could I ever forget the deep-rooted moral questions behind _Pong_ or the subtle socio-political commentary of _Pac-Man?_ The depth of interaction between the Pac-Family and the Ghosts was truly spectacular, and the questions raised about the domestic situation between Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man was unforgettable, surely. Say, this tea tastes a little funny... and my biscuit, too... Oh my, is that a unicorn? Majestic creature. Why are my hands glass?
427Arbok And look at smash brothers, promoting a mass genocide of all kinds of gaming mascots, such bads, and not only that, there’s a “god” that kills every and like religion is bad or something and gods should deeeeeffffinitely not be bad or whatever bullshit SJWs and Leftists say
"Video games have always been political" "Comics have always been political." This has become the excuse to overly-politicize hobbies. In the past, politics in these hobbies were subtle and bipartisan. They let people make up their own mind about any given topic. They didn't beat them over the head by over-analyzing it with a left or right leaning narrative. They didn't speak down to their audience. They didn't try to indoctrinate their audience. They didn't sensationalize topics for click-bait. This is how Polygon, Kotaku, and the comics industry handles politics. Overly-politicizing hobbies is actually dividing and alienating the community.
Not always, mind you. You may not remember it, but some of the older games have some pretty heavy and nasty politics behind them, with some very hamfisted politics shoved in your face. I mean.. we still have tons of "Bad Nazi" games released. The difference is not even the subtlety, it's just how it's presented. Back then, it was always so over the top that it became almost comical. My biggest issue with the type of stuff today, is that they can't even do it right. If they have to try to push whatever agenda they have, at least take the good real life examples, instead of making up ones.
You say you want to play just games but games are created with the creative process- a process that is a direct reflection of a multitude of factors from gameplay, story, graphics etc. Are you saying you want people to SAY less that there should be trans/poc/female characters and simply just do it? Games are full of the politics that encompass our world by which games are inspired by. Symbolically and literally games are political because our world is always political. If you disagree with the politics that's great- the entire point of banter and debate but saying you never want to see the reflection of the real struggles and stories of the world having an influence on games is unrealistic, thoughtless and lazy. Let's be real, saying you don't want politics in games is your unconscious resistance to inclusivity. Politicians saying that violent video games make violent people- now THOSE are the BS politics you guys should be going after.
Would love an Exclusively Games CZcams channel in the future covering gaming news, reviews, etc. Just a Jeremy gaming channel with your staff would be something I'd be very interested in! Thanks for this Jeremy!
I think Games with OVERTLY political themes are contextually part of the game, and are fine to discuss, as a point of story and plot points. Such as the power dynamics of the factions in Final Fantasy Tactics. If it's part of the game, that's fine, but using a discussion about the game to talk about things outside of it would be politics.
Correct... Or how I see it as correct, anyway.... It's fine to talk about how you see what is factually, actually, psychically present in the game already. It's OK to say you feel something in the game is right or wrong, or could have been better. It's definitely acceptable to discuss how characters and stories within the game go. But as soon as your discussion turns to real world politics, or making a game more , it's become political discussion and not about the game.
Voitan's post needs more upvotes because it explains the subtle differences between politics legitimately used as a plot device, and politics in games being for real world political outcomes.
I think Battletech, both table top and computer games exemplify this as well. Not the new ones, rather the originals from the 1980's. It was always strange this nihilistic return to Feudalism.
Exactly my thoughts, and Spec Ops: The Line springs to mind. A classic anti-war game about US military involvement in the Middle East... An admittedly heavy political topic, but the thing is YOU KNOW thats what the game is about going into it! And it doesnt force a message, but uses good storytelling to make its point. Is it a liberal political point? Ya sure, but just like any good anti-war movie its wrapped organically into the game through natural storytelling and characters. These dense fuckers just dont get subtlety and context.
Just signed up for exclusively game. I like that your terms and conditions are simple, sensible, and direct. I look forward to exploring the site more tonight.
The point of games, is to escape our sad realities. If a game is political, then its not really an escape. And the people that are searching for for that crap, are not gamers. They may play games, but they’re playing them for the wrong reasons. Thus, they’re not gamers.
There was no implication. It was written outright, in plain english. That particular magazine, or more likely "media group" has likely had meetings about there spot in the "media market" and "brand of journalism". One must read everything with a grain of salt and skepticism nowdays.
Already building this - it's called Next Player Up. And it goes beyond just delivering news to gamers - it caters to game developers and community managers as well as the gamers they connect with. It's a big undertaking. Good luck - we need as many options as possible out there, but would love to see more collaboration right now than just spinning up more projects, with people who don't have the experience to deliver the software nor the experiences they claim to want to make. BasedGamer for example. Please reach out! Even if it's not to develop a working and professional relationship between our 2 projects, it would be an opportunity to maybe to bounce ideas about the solution architecture, design and development process, etc. I'd love to help from a consulting role (no pay).
And that's exactly how i always picture these people , they are able to interpret things in games that aren't even there. Best example is the way they saw Kingdom come. In this case it was the lack of something that made the creators clearly racists.
"Video games have always been political"... Really?! Mario was political? Zelda was political? Video Games have only been "political" since the rise of SJWs in the industry. That's just a fact. Sure, there were a few games that actually had political content in them, but they weren't agendas; it was just a narrative to give a reason why players did "X" or "Y". "If you haven't noticed before, then you agreed with the message". What message? that stomping on turtles is cool?! That eating mushrooms makes you bigger?
wait really? do you remember mortal kombat and the creation of the esrb and similar ratings for other countries? people have been crying about what the children see since the beginning of time. christians burned harry potter books. DnD paper and pen promoted satanism. 'SJW' is just the newest form of something thats been going on forever
SJW think nothing existed before they were born. Also, nothing existed before they started spending money. So, yes, they are correct. The past few years of games have always been political.
The developers fought hard to actually have those games on the market in the US. Poloticians had many many debates on allowing them to be sold and widely availible. Dumb c*nts
Yeah, I've been enjoying Ultimate Smash Bros quite a bit recently. Some powerful politically charged metaphors to the current state of the world in there. If you don't get the powerful statement an obese alligator king, a space furry, a mushroom people's princess, and a lightning hamster battling each other makes about Donald Trump... well you aren't a games journalist :P

they compare politics in like mass effect or fucking the witcher to actual real life politics, which is NOT the point. its a fictional world in both games, you dont make choices for political reasons in those games you support one or the other if you agree with them, and its usually a 'good outcome bad outcome' kind of thing. we all know these idiots dont even play the games they write about
Yeah , i really wan't to know what they thought when they wrote this. There might have been always games that had political undertones but it was always a smaller number of games, even now mostly EA and Bioware try to force shit like this into games. Or Maybe i just don't see the deep political messeges in games like Mario, God of War , Zelda , Nier Automata and Smash bros.
Ya lol when I was playing Mario 3 or contra growing up, I didn't even know what a Bill Clinton was. Tax rates and social issues were the last thing on my mind -- I just wanted the spread shot before the 3D levels lol
i like this. i was indecisive about your content before, but i really think it is a good move to bring game journalism back in the right direction again.
To GameInformer: first off, the United States is not a democracy, it's a constitutional Republic. Second of all, games haven't been apart of politics until recent years. Games are supposed to be non-political area and were until recently, Developers like EA and others have been bringing politics into gaming
The US has democratically elected representatives, it is a democracy. It is not a direct democracy, as its a representative republic, a form of democracy, which most major powers in the modern world are (the USSR also used this form of democracy, it tends to be the best for managing large scale things). The whole "the US is not a democracy" meme was started over liberals who never paid attention in civics class arguing we should have a simple majority rule system, expressing confusion when it was not actually that way in practice. Claiming its not a democracy in the generalized sense of the term is as wrong as them claiming its a direct democracy, it is a democracy as it has elected representation.
@@s0ulsurviv0r74 Democracy is a broad term that just describes a system where the ultimate authority resists with the people. It can take many forms from elected dictators who hold all the power for a while to direct votes on every single matter. All have their own problems. The US is a republic because it is composed of member states all of which have their own independent governments. The US' system tries to retain state authority while also having a form of collective authority as well. This is best seen in the two houses of congress (originally congressional representatives were elected by people directly, but senators were appointed by the state legislatures, this was later changed so that both are a result of direct state elections), or the fact that to amend the constitution you need a 3/4th majority of state legislatures to approve it (and they can do this even circumventing the entire federal government if desired). Ultimate authority is still in the hands of the member states. It is a democracy because both the states and the federal government must be ran by elected representatives of the people, it is a requirement to join that a state by ran in such a way.
It's been like 3-4 years since the whole Gamergate drama broke out and they just keep doubling down on their idiocy and attacking their own target audience. What part of "don't shit in your own backyard" don't these "journalists" understand?
These are the people that couldn't work in a real news agency. I doubt video game journalist was anything many of the "Big Publication" reviewers ever wanted to do.
Because that's how they got in power in the first place. I've explained this to other people - SJWs in both the gaming industry and games 'journalism' use this tactic BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN WILDLY SUCCESSFUL. In the beginning it was not particularly political. But then the proto-SJWs joined games companies and journalism companies. Once they were there, they started screaming that there wasn't enough 'diversity', that their opinions were being 'suppressed'. Most people ignored them because it wasn't worth the fight, but then they started hiring exclusively other SJWs, and demanding positions of leadership. Once they had control, the people that objected were marginalized or fired. Finally the organization is full SJW. They're trying to use this tactic on the gaming community as a whole. Make no mistake. Games journalists DO NOT CARE what you think. Everything they write is directed at games companies to try and force SJW takeovers. They don't care about the actual gamers. When they've successfully infected every games company they will produce exclusively SJW games and you play them or shut up. Fortunately for us its not working because indie developers and small companies making games is easier than ever before. Games like Dead Cells can compete with AAA game studios. That's why they're having public meltdowns. Because their tactics aren't working and they know it.
this brings hope back to the community, i thought there was never going to be an end to the constant bickering on twitter between fans and journalists. what you are doing is going to be a revolutionary step in the right direction, and i thank you for this.
It's obviously a statement about the nature of political power and how it can never be truly won. When one side captures a majority of the political power it will soon be transferred, if only momentarily, across the isle... the pendulum can only swing so far in one direction. I think it emphasizes the need for disagreement and civil discourse, not demonizing those of differing opinions and really looking outside one's self and examining ideas on base principles not personal expediency. I feel the lessons of Pong are more important than ever in 2018.
Been subbed to this channel for a few weeks now and it’s nice to see such strong creator/consumer relationship. Best of luck with development and Happy holidays
I just found out about this project today. So sad I’m too late to be a backer. Thx so much to all who contributed and to The Quartering for getting it started. Super excited to have a place to talk about games and only games. Keep up the good work man.
They expose themselves when they defend the indefensible, and promote inadequate products and candidates. That's when the transparency shows, and if you're lucky enough to see through it, it makes you wary of all news/journalists going forward. The reverse process happens with integrity, when you see people take a stand against the indefensible, and condemn the inadequate or terrible.
This. It's so satisfying to see people who have a sense of passion when playing or generally enjoying video games of all kinds. I hope the website is working out for you and that it will succeed and help change the perspective of triple A video game companys of what games the customer really wants and that it will make video games better and more alive in these future hard times. You have my support. Subscribed.
Video games have always been political? really gameinformer? What politics were crash bandicoot, doom, halo, duke nukem, mario, zelda, donkey kong, final fantasy, tales, resident evil, age of empires, banjo kazooie, goldeneye, pokemon, warcraft, diablo, half-life, quake, unreal, or ANY OTHER MAJOR GAME from the 90s and 00's trying to push? Who were they telling you to go out and vote for? Because i lived through the golden era of video games, and i sure don't remember politics being a major part of games journalism, development or advertising back then. Almost seems like this is a nonsense statement, and this is a modern trend driven by the increasing zealotry and disconnection of the political far left and the fact that all these game devs and games journalists are inundated with the culture of self righeous politically correct navel-gazing that permeates the areas that they operate out of. In other words, bullshit.
Absolutely. Political ideology was always either incidentally incorporated into games' worlds as a kind of observation or commentary, or more likely were omitted entirely. A lot of examples people are giving are purely gameplay-focused: Mario, racing games, etc. But Final Fantasy is a good example, honestly. They were always more concerned with character-driven stories than they were political commentary. Even FFVII, which has AVALANCHE acting as a terrorist group for instance, still makes you pause to consider the impact that they had in Midgar also led to the deaths of a lot of innocent people, and even if they were doing it for good intentions were still accountable for their share of destruction. Or, hell, FF Tactics dealt a lot with conspiracy, political schemes and backstabbing, but these were within the context of the game world in a medieval scenario. It raised more philosophical and ethical questions than it acted as a thinly veiled vehicle for directly disseminating IRL ideology. Even something like Vagrant Story didn't have a political message that I can think of. I actually don't mind politics in games within the context of what a game was trying to accomplish, or when it's not the focal point and is only really applicable to its own inhabitants. But a lot of modern scenario writers are talentless hacks who put politics first and story second. Fewer people are capable of subtle nuance or seeing the merits of different points of view, and it shows, which I think is a massive shame.
I agree though I wouldn't mind politics in games if they actually make sense in the context of the game and have a a goodf reason for it in the lore UNLIKE bf5 for example
Metal Gear was pretty big in the 00's and it has a lot of political themes in it. Some guy above made a pretty completing case for half life being political but I haven't played to say with certainty.Your broad over generalization is a bit... how can we say politely... dumb
Hooray! I can't wait to replace IGN and gamespot with Exclusively Games on my fav's bar :) Question: Do you have any plans in the future to expand into TV/movies/anime/other entertainment reviewing and discussion? Thank you so much for championing this effort to remove politics from gaming journalism!
I'm glad you're giving the good ones a place to publish their honest, unbiased criticism and praise of games! Thanks Jeremy and all you crowdfunders! I wish I could kick down but I'm totally strapped right now. I'll have to PayPal you when I can. Ps - I got the best account name on the forum: Link.
The only thing about tetris that was truly political was how Russian government wanted to own it becuase it was made on goverment computers at the time.
Games are not political unless they are designed to be specifically. It doesn't matter how complicated the plot is, or how new it is. Games have their own worlds with different people, places, rules, and history. In games, it is possible to create situations that cannot happen in real life. Games are fiction, they do not cause violence, and they will not change real-world politics. They are an escape from our world, a useful source of entertainment. Thinking games are always political in the real world is to blur the line between fantasy and reality. If you can't keep fantasy and reality separate than I really worry about your future. It doesn't matter how often you say everything is political, it won't make your delusions real.
Feanorchronos yeah. I mean, narratives can contain political aspects but mostly this is only because society has politicised those things. For example, showing that the villains use a coal plant could be considered a political dig, but not if there were not a strong division on the subject of coal pollution. Supposing the villains had a modern coal plant that processes its exhausts? The political issue is sidestepped.
@@o00nemesis00o Or it could just be shown so that the player has a better idea as to what resources the villains have and how they get them rather than saying "cause I said so". It fleshes the villains out and adds to the world building, no more, no less. It might be different if the villains having a coal plant and how bad it is was a major plot point, but chances are it will just be used as a simple explanation and maybe a location for the game to have a confrontation due to something else.
Everything I'm seeing and reading about this project is looking great man. I'm excited to see how this goes and am happy to see you succeeding in this goal. Keep it up man.
"We hate to break it to you, but video games have always been political." Reminds me of the movie Boomerang with Eddie Murphy, who explained how pool billard was racist, because the goal was for the white ball to push the black ball into a pit.
I don't mind having differing opinions on morality etc. in video games. Hell, I usually like games that make me think at least a little. What I abhor is one-sided dumbed down propaganda, willfully misrepresenting one side of the argument. I don't like identity politics, which essentially serve to dehumanize everyone and strip them of their individuality. I don't like history being rewritten in games that proclaim themselves to be historically accurate.
It was quite a politically relevant plot that! Quite liked it except you couldn't just kill them all an proclaim yourself king.. much like the American election, a choice between a turd sandwich an a doush.. the game should have let people have that thrird option, it is escapism. Is that what this random bearded man is going on about?
Thank you so much. I'm glad there's somewhere I can go and talk about video games without politics getting in the way. Finally, a place where I can talk about things like improving video games without having someone having an opinion not based on a video game issue. I hope this is a success. Have a great day!
You're a hero, keep doing what you do! Don't let the BS of those people consume you. You always spread positivity and no toxicity! They just protect their own interest and don't care about gamers. Also they give you PR (whether good or bad) and exposure, which drives more people to ExclusivelyGames and it makes the community grow :D
Don't you see, PACMAN was a capitalist who's hunted by those he worked to death, TETRIS is about building the communist utopia, and GOD OF WAR is about become the most BAD ASS DAD IN THE UNIVERSE and how men are evil or some fairy ass bull shit.
If I remember right, there were rumors that the gradual speedup of Tetris was a reference to increasing pressure on workers in communism... though I can't remember if the original creator confirmed or denied that.
I would suggest getting an ip ban system in place on the site when it launches, because you know there will be some raids in the beginning. (It'll probably die down fast though)
Amazing work Jeremy. Finally a place that cares more about how user friendly the battle system is and not offended cause the lightest skin character has better speed stats
I did my part. Just Promise us one thing. That you will keep ownership of the service and never sell out to some corporation. I would hate it, If you had same what happened to Andy Signore when they kicked him out from Screen Junkies over some #metoo BS
BIG CONGRATS on securing the backing to launch this website! I sincerely hope your new project blows up huge and one day becomes one of, if not THE, premiere games websites.
I recently found out that the founder of Al Quaeda was triggered by this song: qz.com/1491525/baby-its-cold-outside-and-the-rise-of-islamic-fundamentalism/
And remember, GameInformer is almost solely responsible for the current state of games 'journalism'. As soon as they were purchased by GameSpot, EVERY score was immediately inflated to help drive sales at GS's brick and mortar stores. Every review became a fawning sycophant piece or despicable outrage bait, ANYTHING to drive ad traffic including stifling reviews for fear or advertisers getting annoyed that their games are bad (Kayne and Lynch for example) and to drive traffic to the stores and create tribes based on what piece of plastic you played games upon (the stupid console wars). And it worked; for a while. But now people have (or are beginning to) wise up, and these 'journalists' have to troll harder and harder to maintain their readership to keep their advertisers happy.

"We hate to break it to you, but video games (along with their development, discourse, and consumption) have always been political." Not to the exclusion and exile of a percentage of the participants because that part disagrees ideologically. Before it was a live and let live. As long as everyone was civil people could discuss those politics. When it became too heated those running the service would force it back to a *neutral* point and say no politics in that topic from then on. But they wouldn't remove only one side or even both at times. Jeremy's site is that return to neutral point. Also there is the cringy ham fisted politics that sacrifices story telling (or in the news case facts) to push an idea. To all the people at Exclusively Games. Show 'em how it's done.

Explain how Pac Man was political. I can wait.
What about pong or asteroids, or mortal kombat?!?!
Sparrow Elle Trying to bring more people into arcades to play your game is not politics. It’s marketing.
Pac Man was a game obviously about Colonialism. (which as we all know is a white people thing)
Pac Man moves from region to region exploiting and consuming their resources unless opposed and stopped by the local minorities, aka the ghosts.

“Politics have always been in everything”
This is the biggest lie ever told in our age.
And my point/examples went right over your head.
@@sanrock08I didnt reply to you.
@@acedianihil8208 I thought you did.
(And yes, there is a Kotaku article about it)
Equality is bullshit. It's literally impossible. The sooner we understand that, the better.

What im saying is there's a difference between political themes and just politics/propaganda.
politics has always been sticking its nose into gaming. It has never been by the desire of game developers or gamers.

"Video games have always been political"
"Comics have always been political."
This has become the excuse to overly-politicize hobbies.
Fishing, hunting and mudding have always been political.
Giving Birth has always been political
Solid snake fighting memes is political

GAME DEVELOPERS : If you dont like it, dont buy it you uneducated fuck. :)
I agree
Exactly my thoughts, and Spec Ops: The Line springs to mind. A classic anti-war game about US military involvement in the Middle East... An admittedly heavy political topic, but the thing is YOU KNOW thats what the game is about going into it! And it doesnt force a message, but uses good storytelling to make its point. Is it a liberal political point? Ya sure, but just like any good anti-war movie its wrapped organically into the game through natural storytelling and characters. These dense fuckers just dont get subtlety and context.

The US has democratically elected representatives, it is a democracy.

It is a democracy because both the states and the federal government must be ran by elected representatives of the people, it is a requirement to join that a state by ran in such a way.
sidraket - That isn’t how it works. We are not and have never been a democracy.
It's been like 3-4 years since the whole Gamergate drama broke out and they just keep doubling down on their idiocy and attacking their own target audience. What part of "don't shit in your own backyard" don't these "journalists" understand?
Paul Richards considering they only know how to talk to people with glorified stockholm syndrome...every part of it.
White-knight Men supporting Streamer thots thinking someday they will get to "touch it"(Amouranth).
I'm pretty sure these hacks actually do shit in their own backyard, like a dog. We see for ourselves they enjoy shitting on our lawns, our games.

113stDFX9900 I'm sure they'll figure out some BS
On the anime side i've recently seen alot of comments saying cowboy bebop was progressive in terms of gender
Pong is about the bourgeoise using the poor worker as a play ball.

I never knew how much I hated gaming journalists until this year. Especially after the Diablo Immortal incident.
They are getting an education too.
For me it started with the cuphead tutorial incident
They expose themselves when they defend the indefensible, and promote inadequate products and candidates. That's when the transparency shows, and if you're lucky enough to see through it, it makes you wary of all news/journalists going forward. The reverse process happens with integrity, when you see people take a stand against the indefensible, and condemn the inadequate or terrible.
This is the first time I'm hearing about this. And I'm so glad this is happening, keep it up and thank you.

Why am I not surprised about Gameinformer, they pushed for Annita Sarkesian hard back in the day.
I completely quit reading gameinformer like 3 years ago...shit got old
And remember, GameInformer is almost solely responsible for the current state of games 'journalism'.
Who is Annita S. ??
@@Azeltirish Ooo bless you my child. You are better off not knowing she exists believe me. Imagine if someone could go back in time and stop you from seeing The last jedi? Not knowing about her is the equivalent of that.

"We hate to break it to you, but video games (along with their development, discourse, and consumption) have always been political."
Not to the exclusion and exile of a percentage of the participants because that part disagrees ideologically.
