    When they said they want combat to be very conversational, I think they're pointing out how tag games have a reputation for being one sided once somebody gets a hit. No one wants to be stuck in a super long combo that does 70% health. They want more interactions in neutral to determine the outcome of a match and not just be decided by getting a huge combo off a confirm 2 times.
    It's also why they don't want combos to be too long in the game.

    • @BruiserMinion
      @BruiserMinion  Před rokem +8

      Yea my first go through I took that way too literally, and then when I went back through the video I caught it and tacked on the "they were probably saying that conversation bit as the metaphor of back and forth lol" But I definitely agree with that approach, Tag games absolutely have the reputation of characters getting 1 or 2 touches KO'd so more back and forth would definitely be welcomed.

      exactly, combos have to have a damage cap, else the game has no real pvp skill requirement and would just be an extension to the training room, which you have to tank 80% of your time into anyways

      @@BruiserMinion League and Valorant hire commentators from outside of Riot all of the time. For example, CaptainFlowers, one of their most prolific commentators, is a freelancer that Riot frequently contracts for their large events. Between that, and the devs being FGC vets themselves and very in tune with the community as a result, it'll be fine.

  • @spooncats
    @spooncats Před rokem +8

    If anyone's curious why the block button thing was a recurring joke, it's because in the gameplay videos you see characters enter their crouch block animations even when there's no move to block, which is pretty abnormal in most games without a block button

      @@TylerrTazer probably not, if you go back and watch the latest video you'll see a lot of characters going into their crouch block animation when there's no attack to actually proximity block, usually after recovering from an air combo. Hmm... that actually makes sense I didn't think about it that way! Good call. I do also wonder how ranked will work, like if you'll be 1 rank per account or if they will go the New Street Fighter 6 way which is EACH character has its own rank. May be more difficult for Project L though because you play multiple characters in a team so idk if that would work as well

    Don't know if you play guilty gear, but I think the summoner spells thing could also function like GG's roman cancel that could have different effects depending on the situation. Like a defensive "RC" on project L would activate a cleanse or exhaust, and an offensive one be a flash or ghost(making your attacks and movement faster for a brief period of time).

    • @BruiserMinion
      @BruiserMinion  Před rokem +4

      I do indeed! That's a really interesting one, I've considered what summoners could be like but not like that where you could use multiple at once or be context-sensitive even. Cleanse is almost another burst in a sense, Exhaust a BRC with that slowdown effect, Flash would be great to snap to them to extend a combo OR try to mix them up like Street Fighter 6 Drive rush even, and then Ignite while you are hitting them like an RRC just to add a burn and increase combo damage. I love it, good stuff boss!

    As for the eSports side of things...Capcom recently blew the doors open on that by making the next "Capcup" (the Street Fighter eSports scene) have a total prize pool of $2 million, where half of that is going to the winner.
    I think it's great that they don't want to push the eSports side of Project L too hard, but because of what Capcom did, along with the sheer amount of polish and love that has gone into Street Fighter 6, there is a going to be a massive chunk of the FGC that sticks solely with SF6, especially if other FG developers don't step it up.
    If there is one decision that I can see being overruled by Riot or even Tencent, it's that one.

    • @BruiserMinion
      @BruiserMinion  Před rokem +1

      Yea that's very true, I'm glad Capcom is going to be back in the spotlight for the near future of things no question. Of course absolutely no chance Riot doesn't go VERY hard on the Esports side in the long run, but first getting the game off to the right start and making sure it's truly ready is the way it needs to be done for sure

    • @AppleBaron
      @AppleBaron Před rokem +2

      Riot are know for not having ridiculously huge prize pools in their games. For example prize pool at Worlds is like 10 times smaller than at The International. But it's all because players get solid salaries throughout the whole year, rather than playing for one big prize 1 or 2 times a year.

    • @Electru522
      @Electru522 Před rokem

      @@AppleBaron That is true, but we are also talking about equivalent prize pools going to just a handful of people (with half of it going to just 1 person), instead of a handful of teams.
      So while the total prize pool might be all around lower than others, it's impact is amplified that much more.

If they come out and say this game can only be played with an online Wi-Fi connection and cannot be played offline by any means, then that’s an automatic pass and I will NEVER play the game. I don’t care if it’s free, don’t you dare make it so nobody can play offline. However, if they play it smart, and make it so that the game has both online and offline capabilities, and the monetization isn’t scummy, then hopefully this game will benefit from being a live service.

In terms of actual game quality and some of the other stigma of live services being people drop half-baked games and think they can fix it later THAT part I'm not worried about here at all, in fact it seems like they are really on that Valve mentality of "when it's done, even if that takes 10 years" lol

All it took was telling them to watch what Ekko did in his character reveal and explaining that a block button would mean that none of that actually works. Never had a single person think a block button is a good idea after that lol

      @@kevinb5417Exactly! it would minimize setups A LOT. Left-right mixes are pretty huge, especially in tag games so that would be a big loss in depth. Plus side note, it's really awkward to hold a block button all the time if you play on stick imo. lol

      @@BruiserMinion Skullgirls wasn't good on mobile, I'm not a fanatic of that game. The character design perspectives and gameplay mechanics seemed odd, it doesn't deliver the console quality on the go. So far, SF Duel and KOF Arena were vague, they don't feel like fighting games on the go. Sadly enough, Metal Revolution has been shut down not long ago, I knew that game needs a major redo. Combo system needs more work and missing a grab button, but that was the first fighting game with a jump button, it is unknown when is it gonna revive? That was a good fighting game on mobile that has a console feel to it. Imagine Project L available on all platforms (consoles, PCs, and mobile) and being able to play cross platform multiplayer, that'll be a disruption in the fighting game community.

      @@wllmjhuang Cross-play day one would be fantastic, that is a HUGE problem alot of games have is frankly we are a pretty small community when you compare fighting games to say FPS or MOBAs so it can be very hard to get opponents consistently for some games. Unfortunately I dont know if that would include a mobile version playing against Console and PC, that seems like a major hardware advantage for the PC/ Console player - but have you player other games where you could do that?

    5 button layout makes me, a pad player, very sad. They're already borrowing so many concepts from mvc and dbfz, just make it 4 main buttons so us pad players have an easier time.

      @BruiserMinion  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yea funny you should say this now I've been thinking about this a lot too because of wanting to pick up pad again for MK1. For Project L it's basically a six-button game - Light, Med, Heavy then Special 1 Special 2 and tag.... plus there is a BUNCH of 2 button macro/ combinations. Pushblock, Retreating guard, Parry, Grab, and even burst are some combination of 2 buttons at once and I'm really curious how it will feel on pad when you get used to it because frankly, I was struggling with the very little time I played it on pad at EVO. I think mappable macros for your free buttons and giving a lot of freedom to rebind things will be pretty key here

      @@BruiserMinion It's not like they made a bad game or even a bad button scheme, but it's so clearly designed for stick and they just don't give a fuck about pad players. It honestly might just be unplayable for me, which makes me really sad because I have been looking forward to this game for years.
      They could take a page out of MvC and have L,M,H plus a special button on the face keys, then tag and combinations of buttons on the bumpers and triggers. But they're so focused on simplified inputs that there's 2 special buttons instead of just making different moves have different quarter circle inputs. But outside of the L,M,H layout they could really take a page out of MvC:I's playbook because it is honestly a really well made game mechanically. It was a joke of a game on release because of the roster and character models, but the gameplay is actually really good and smooth, plus the tag system is done really well imo, with a combo breaking mechanic for the cost of 2 out of 4 meter. It's actually such a good game and I wish it got the recognition it deserves, but the MvC community is all about the roster, which I get because that's my #1 complaint with the game. But yeah, I feel like Project L has too much going on with it's button choices. They talk about making inputs more simple, but they traded movement inputs for a fuckton of buttons and combinations. I'd rather have quarter circles all day long. It's not like they need to do full circle, dragon punches, or anything really complicated.

      Fair enough man I feel you. I will say though if you enjoyed MVCI I definitely think there is going to be a lot of shared DNA here and ive quite enjoyed what I've played of Project L so far. So hopefully they make it compatible enough for you to still enjoy it as a pad player, I really do think this game has huge potential @@crazysquriel

    • @crazysquriel
      @crazysquriel Před 9 měsíci

      @@BruiserMinion I agree it does have a lot of potential, but realizing that potential is what I am worried about.
      Honestly, MvCI was by far my favorite button layout. There was almost no coordination needed between fingers and thumb for pad players and any hard timing was relegated to main button inputs. It also had relatively easy to execute inputs and had fairly forgiving execution in comparison to many other fighters. My first traditional fighter that I played seriously was MvC3 and I still had trouble using assists at the correct timings during combos, attempting to coordinate my fingers and thumb. I would always have trouble with timing, often pressing slightly too fast or slow with my fingers and dropping the combo. I think having one button on my left hand while the rest on my right was part of the reason I had trouble. But with MvCI I never had that problem due to the tag system where you created your own assists by doing a move with your point character and then tagging your next character in. It was also easier because you didn't have to time when the assist would actually hit and just when you needed to press tag, making it feel much more responsive. I was also able to become much more proficient using more tech like tri-dashes, wave/air dashes, instant air dashes and even using flight combos with lots of air dashes incorporated, likely because of the slightly easier execution timings being more forgiving and not requiring things like plinking, which is something that a stick can perform much more easily. It felt like I was actually on an even playing field as a pad player against stick players.
      I'm not sure how having dedicated assists will work out in a tag based game and hope they might do what MvCI did and allow for all types of creative assists, combos, and gameplay by just letting a tag happen at will and reduce the number of buttons needed. I also think having a good number of defensive options is good, but even with the ability to bind multiple buttons to a single trigger or bumper, with the amount they have it will soon become too many to even use a pad. There are only so many buttons on a pad and you will be forced to choose which ones are more important for you to bind and if you will be able to manually input any of them with the limited amount of possibilities and difficulty that presents for a pad player. I feel like in their quest for simplified inputs they have made using your left thumb unimaginably easy, while making your right hand and coordination between using your fingers with your thumb three times more difficult. I think it even effects stick players simply making the job of the right hand far harder while making the joystick slightly easier. In my opinion they have approached the idea of simplification from the wrong point of view.
