- Well guys it's here, the OFFICIAL name of Project L will now be 2XKO. Been a long time coming, and wanna hear how you all feel about it - but even more than this we got all new official Social platforms, talks of Demos - MAYBE even Beta stuff AND a Target time for release. A lot to sink into and will likely make another deeper dive video but here are my first responses!

RIP Project L, Hello 2XKO! How we feeling about the name fellas?
Expectations were high. I honestly prefer Project L and will probably keep calling it Project L
It's super clunky and lacks any kind of personality. Fighting game names should be punchy, memorable and instantly recognizable. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, Smash Bros. It's not a good sign when people are having trouble with knowing how to pronounce it.
Hell League has a rune called "Lethal Tempo". That would've been perfect in my opinion, you even get to keep the "L".

@ridori7376 That part I definitely agree with. I don't hate it, but do think the having issues knowing how to pronounce or say it is very unfortunate as a brand
The name is weird and not very cool. It’s short and sweet but also doesn’t help sell the game as a League of Legends fighter. Should’ve called it Runeterra Brawlers.
Not gonna lie… as much flack as the name is getting still super hyped! And Ekko saying ‘bout time at the end of the trailer gets me hyped every time
Oh same! I hate to see it taking a bit of a dive and get trolled a bit on the name, but I think overall there is still way more about the game that is killing it and standing out as amazing so really thats the important stuff.
If I didn't already know the truth I'd assume that 2XKO was the temp name and Project L was the official name. It literally just sounds like a file name.
I did see Double A said it sounded like a "Supplement that'd sponsor every video essay you watch for 3 months" ngl I cant disagree.... haha

Yea me too. My cope is we get another vid before EVO Japan (which starts 4/27) and that announces she'll be playable at the event. Fingers crossed!

Is that not already the name? I assumed it was meant to be Two KO or Double KO because why would you pronounce the X aloud? Thats just weird to do already.
In the Dev Video Tom Cannon did say it as 2-x-k-o BUT they seem to have also said on Twitter Riot is kinda gonna let the community actually decide what it's referred to as. Double KO might stick! @@mrlee3412

Yea, that's pretty much how I felt. I didn't hate it at first either, but to me I don't really know if there was going to be a name that "blew my mind" lol it's kind of whatever and it's feeling better the more im hearing it
Runeterra Fighters is actually very fitting
I did think it would be something closer to that yea. Some sort of Runtera, League of, some-thing-of-legends or the like but oh well at least it's different!
For it's shorthand I like 'Koko'. Just fun for me to say.
Outside of the name change, the info and showcase are awesome. Great Bilgewater stage. Illaoi looks fantastic. Mouth animations for voice lines (Don't remember this in past builds). The game as a whole keeps looking better and better.
I've had this thought of what if the name is secretly some actual K.O K.o name (that I don't even wanna take a crack a guessing) and they are slow rolling us with the shorthand to be clever. haha would be pretty funny. But yea name aside I think the game looks amazing and just keeps looking better!
2XKO is... questionable, The game is here i guess and we gotta live with it (kinda hoping for League of Fighters LMAO), It's nice to have some confirmation that more is coming this year and they'll be ready for release in 2025, that means we gonna get more champs announcement and game features, already sign up for the playtest and i'm excited!!!!!

Haha man yea at this point is what it is. I dont mind it personally but we'll see how it shakes out! But in any case the bigger point is game looks dope and really hoping to get my hands on it again for one of these playtests or *fingers crossed* an OPEN beta! And thanks as always brother!

@@BruiserMinion I think the name is jarring at first but it will grow on people. but considering Illaoi's art isnt done as seen in the trailer we wont see her for at least the next 2-3 months I just hope samria is in the game and shown off soon.
Yea agreed, I do think it's weird enough to be jarring but think it'll be fine if this is what it stays as. Ive see much worse with anime games tbh. And indeed! Now we wait for more I guess as always!
Not feeling it, to be honest. Project L felt like a more impactful name than this.
And it seems like the general consensus is that this really shouldn't have been the name. People are not responding well to it.
Yea it does seem like the overall response is pretty mixed - to straight-up bad. I do like that it is short and stand out, but even I cant deny it's a pretty wild one. Who knows though, maybe it'll grow on those who arent feeling it in time.... does feel weird NOT calling it Project L imo...

I know that negativity tends to be much louder than positivity, but this feels pretty wide spread.
Yea seeing other YT videos and the Discord now seeing a lot of love... lol I wonder if it really does crash and burn if they would go as far as changing it now.
@@BruiserMinion There are some people speculating that this could be some marketing ploy where they release a bad name first, then release the ACTUAL name to get a better response out of it.
It's still early, and we only just got the Illaoi reveal....we still need a playable Jinx, and obviously Vi to be added, so there is still plenty of time to change it.
Wait foreal? that would be pretty wild - it would be like intentionally doing that bad sonic for the movie then changing it to win everyone over for listening.... which typing out actually makes more sense than id like to admit as a marketing ploy. lol But yea man... ngl I thought there would be ALOT more info this time around. honestly I don't care too much about the name. The fact that we've got a name means we're actually a game now. I'm so excited, it's been a long 5 years since the annoucement!
For sure man that's really the big thing. Official name with official channels, and they have basically confirmed we will be hearing from them a lot more often going forward. I'm pumped!
I don't hate the name as much as everyone else seems to. I think it will age with time if the game turns out to be great.
The only issue i've been seeing is with other languages and how they pronounce numbers/letter.
As cool as "Lethal Tempo" would be, I don't think names like it would be a good idea. Same idea how Valorant changed their top rank from "Valorant" to "Radiant."
Yea the pronunciation does seem to be an issue which is not great, feels like most people are questioning it even if they say it right. I jacked it up a few times myself in this video lol
Looking to get back into fighting games and this got my interest when they first teased it, already signed up for the beta.
Oh yea I think this will be a great one to either get back into fighting games or hop on for the first time! Looking forward to the betas and seeing who actually gives the game a try.
i have a feeling the bizzare name is a part of the marketing technique because it makes EVERYONE talk about it and hence free advertisement for the game! 🧐

@@BruiserMinion No Katarina is even more wild. We haven't seen her since the Alpha build footage during Riot's 10th Anniversary showcase. And that was FOUR years ago.

Not sure how I feel about the name, Teamfight Tactics is a banger of a name, 2XKO is the same amount of syllables but man it just doesn't roll off the tongue, probably gonna be calling it two eks when talking about it with friends.
Yea TFT was a good one, so was LOR. This one is a bit harder to swallow but I think we'll get there - like you said 2X is even solid I dont mind that at all

Yea im starting to hear that a bit already too. I think it's fine but do prefer just 2-KO instead of 2XKO. Name overall is definitely jarring at first I think everyone agrees there, but seems like there is gonna be a big divide of people who actually hate it and some who really don't care that much lol
Arguments starting about every little thing already gave me a headache. They're staying on track though, stage, music, characters. Excitement definitely doubled for me hearing about more opportunities to play. It's time to boot up soon.
I do hate to see it get dragged through the mud for something that should have been a win after all this time of not having a name, but frankly if this is the one L compared to all the huge stuff I've been super hyped about i'll take it man.
Having mixed feelings on the name, though the more I hear people say 2XKO the more I get used to it. Most excited to be getting regular news drops though! Hard coping for regular character reveals and just general news about things like monetization, netcode, etc.
It's been a wild 24 hours man, a lot of people just hate it so much they reject it and some are like eh you know what? its fine. lol But I would be very surprised if this isnt the start of much more regular updates. Seems like thats what Tom was saying as to why they dropped the name now, and them having official socials now is a big deal too. Come on more Champs soon!
I dont hate the name but I dont love it. Runterra rumble/champs of runeterra type names did all sound a little corny. Sad we didnt get League Fighting Game (LFG) because thats just a funny name. Thanks for the update!

Lethal Tempo is one of the most said options I've seen for the name. That would have been a cool name

I would like to be called Soul fighter, youknow like the event in league of legends that was a full reference of fighting games.
Another good name that people was theorizing was Lethal tempo (like the rune)
Yea I really did think Soul Fighter might have been a full on teaser related to this game at one point. That would have been pretty sick if they had a game event for LoL Lor and TFT as a hype up to dropping this game.

Indeed! Gameplay and content most important things for sure. And man if they really did do guest characters that would be wild, or even valorant themed skin lines that I could actually see happening

I think people are so used to not pronouncing X’s in Japanese games that they’ve completely disregarded the likely pronunciation of saying the name like an acronym
My mind does kind of go to Guilty Gear X-rd... which I feel like ive heard people say in like 20 different pronunciations haha

Project L it is then! I was actually pretty surprised there wasn't PS4 and Xbox one to be honest, but if that means a cleaner better and better running game I'm here for it.
Outside of opinions, 2XKO is objectively a poor decision.
It succeeds on two fronts:
1. Search Engine, it is easily found by looking up the name
2. Avoiding direct conflicts with LoL's name and confusion.
Where does it fail? Well:
1. Fails to relate itself to the IP it is representing, think Marvel vs Capcom. It's IP is a large selling point of it's marketing
2. The name does not translate to other languages outside of english well, it seems the name was made without that consideration.
3. Fails to establish itself as something unique, this ties in to the problem with the IP, establishing yourself via a generic fighting game term prevents you from having an identity by sheer word of mouth.
I look forward to this game, but the name has faults.
(Even tho I said objectively, it's still my opinion! You're welcome to disagree with these points.)
No, I do agree! My opinion is I don't hate the name itself but I think your points are exactly spot on as to why is probably not a good choice for marketings sake. ESPECIALLY 3. If Native english speakers are having issues with it probably gonna be awful for international appeal unfortunately

Yea name is kind of whatever to me, I personally didn't care that much as long as it wasn't "league of fighters" or something kinda generic. but I LOVE the idea that we are going to have direct socials for it now and much more direct info more often.

Yea Ive heard people make the point of it mirroring old Vs game shorthand like MVC3 and CVS2 but unfortunately it's getting run through the ringing pretty hard now I do not know how keen they will be on it now if 90 percent of people hate or are making fun of it
no, Project names are actually named Project "something". It looks like something else like a medical file or something, "could you get me the file with the code 2XKO" or even a captcha.
Honestly, didn't like the name at first, still don't like it now, but it has grown on me a bit and it doesn't sound as atrocious as when I first heard it/looked at it. However, I'd like to add that... It's just a name. Like, that's not gonna determine my enjoyment of the game, and it's certainly not gonna determine the quality of the game which is looking top notch. Like, again, I don't like the name but at the same time I don't agree with the people having meltdowns about it and acting like the sky is falling down on them, that's just plain stupid imho
Yea that's really the biggest factor to me too. Is it the best they could have done? no, I think pretty factually it could have been better or at the very least been more broadly better received. But really what sucks is how much this is overshadowing the announcement basically being talks of More info frequently going forward, playtests, Betas, and even the release window. All of which would have been huge.... had everyone not been freaking about the name. lol

The game will come out, it will be great and it will be successful, cuz I don't think a fully functional human being can let a name they don't like be the WHOLE reason why they don't do something/engage with something, but this is not the case, it will be a massive success, because it has the League IP behind it, there can't be no other way😉

Honestly yeah the name sucks. I hear people say they are just gonna call is '2X' or '2KO', but if the regular name of the game is an abbreviation and people feel the need to make an abbreviation of that abbreviation, then its not a good name. It takes more syllables to say '2XKO' then it says to say 'Street Fighter' or 'Project L.' The pronunciation doesn't even flow as well as something like 'mvc3.' People have been so positive about this game so far, so this is fair criticism.
The bit im hearing that makes me feel okay on it is that it's likely an homage to how the FGC calls classic vs games. Like Marvel Vs Capcom being MVC2 / MVC3 and games like CVS2. Not saying it's good if people really are hating it this much but I think that does at least make sense now

2XKO sounds terrible
Runterra is huge fantasy universe with it's own style, and Riot just came out with the most bland name you can imagine for fighting game. You can literally put this name to any fighting game, and it will fit
Yea thats probably the most shocking part about it really is not leaning more on this absolutely massive IP more in the branding.
